Though this is quite old news, I'll leave this open so that we can actually start discussing the movie once it comes out in just a few days. There was a thread about this in LEGO general Discussion, but it's more appropriate to talk about the actual movie here.

Who's planning on getting/watching it?

I get to go to the "Red Carpet Premiere" at LEGOLAND California and see it on the big screen.

I'll let you know what I think of it.

Picked up the DVD at Walmart today for $15.00. Based on the trailers and clips from the site, it looks like a really fun LEGO movie, looking forward to watching it. Will let you all know what I thought of it after I see it.

Just finished watching, and it's pretty damn good. I had a big grin on my face throughout most of the movie.

Now, do keep in mind that its a LEGO cartoon and intended for kids, but it's not "dumbed down" or inaccessible to adults by any means (there's even a shout-out to AFOLs). There's a good mix of humor, drama, and action. The movie has decent voice work and great animation. Unlike the past Bionicle movies, the renderings of the sets and bricks are pretty much exactly how they look in reality, which is nice. It sets the perfect tone for a movie that crosses so many themes. And it's a blast picking out individual sets that you own as they pop up in the movie. It's constructed as if it's to be the first movie in a series...which I hope they follow through with because I'm really curious as to the identities of the other two bad guys.

Some good characters in here as well. Some we can build from existing pieces, some not. Hopefully LEGO will rectify this soon (hint, hint). I feel comfortable recommending this to any fan of the LEGO systems. deino2.gif

So, I watched it, and without getting into details right now, I loved it, was geeking out a lot while watching it. It was as fun as I was hoping for. So cool seeing the LEGO universe (System anyway) brought to life like that. Knowing very well that it's meant for kids, as Deinonychus mentioned, it isn't dumbed down, any adult with a child like sense of fun and imagination would enjoy it. And as Deinonychus also mentioned, there's a little nod to AFOLs early on, and a Star Wars joke as well (which I thought was really cool, being a huge SW fan).

Also really cool seeing the various current themes used (like Power Miners, Agents, City of course, Space Police, Fantasy Era Castle, and more) and seeing particular sets from those various themes. Not much I didn't like about it, just really good fun, and lots of humor (very, very important). Would have liked to see more take place in LEGO City, but maybe next time. Really liking the characters of Clutch and his team, really hope we'll see them made into actual minifigs.

I'll probably watch it again very soon. More thoughts later! :)

"I'm stuck!"

From what I could tell, there was too much placement of the word 'lego' around- Clutch even had the LEGO logo on his sleeve.

Well, the movie arrived from Netflix today, so I watched it, and it was great. Bad puns galore, but otherwise very fun and cute, and just the way Legos come to life in my mind when I play with them! :sweet: I might actually buy this some day. I'd definitely like Peg's hair piece and Prince Varen's crown in a set at some point.

The only sad thing about the movie is that the fact that most of the movie took place in the Fantasy Era Castle world is Lego's last hurrah for this great theme, just like what videogames have been for certain licensed themes.

You will be missed, trolls and skellies. :sadnew:

Well, it's a Lego movie. What did you expect? As someone has already said: In a way, it's just a big commercial.

I'll have to look around for this movie, though that stuck-legs problem happens to me alot too... The orange-haired guy's accent doesn't seem to match his look.

Yeah, I agree. I would have expected more of a Canadian accent myself. Oh well.

I bought it, I watched, And I want more!

Many brick-jokes, nice characters and even a good Troll (YAY!)

I loved how they showed Legoverse in this movie and I hope this is not last CGI Lego movie. I demand for more!

And the Rockmonster Baby... That was too adorable, I want one!

I think the film was amazing. One thing that impressed me was the fact that it was more than just a kid's story based around product placement-- many of the conflicts between the protagonists are issues I've encountered frequently as a LEGO fan (for instance, Bernie's obsessive sorting of the parts by function and his unending frustration with nonspecific, unofficial fan names for parts). The humor, too, was decidedly LEGO-centric and toyed with the situations LEGO fans often encounter. There were some cheap puns, but it's hard to find a humorous film where none of the humor comes off as cheap.

And of course, there was plenty of the LEGO humor we've come to expect from LEGO video and computer games (including games as far back as LEGO Island). It's just so wonderful how genuine the film felt as a LEGO product, rather than just a platform for selling other products.

The ending intrigued me, as (and I'm avoiding spoilers here) it leaves open the possibility of a sequel. Since this movie used mainly 2008 and 2009 sets, I'm curious what sort of 2010 themes and sets might show up in a second film. Here's hoping that this film is successful enough that one actually comes!

I'm gonna be making a Brickshelf gallery with some of the more distinctive moments of the film, while trying to avoid spoiling the funniest or most critical parts for those who haven't seen it. For instance, I've got some prime shots of the fabulous comic relief characters Skelly and Bones. I'll link once I've put that together.

Indeed, that was a nice bit.

I think the upcoming 4D movie/attraction at Legoland will be a sequel, but it looks like it will mainly just take place in Lego City. They already made an Atlantis movie, so even if there was a real sequel to this, there wouldn't be many current themes left for them to cover. Therefore, I don't think there will be a sequel, at least not for a few years. :sceptic:

In case you haven't heard of the attraction, here is the teaser:

name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>">

By the way, did anyone take a close look at the City scenes in the movie? I know the Green Grocer is a great set, but did it have to be every second building in the whole friggin city? Just 3D modelers being lazy, I guess.

Oh, that looks cool, I hadn't heard of that. Looking forward to checking it out later this year. Planning to make another trip to Legoland around June.

Would still hope for another movie sequel though.

If LEGO's system movie contract with TinselTown Toons is anything like their Bionicle contract, it's going to be a trilogy. And seeing as how three villains escaped from space prison, and the first film focused on one of them, I'd say that's fairly likely.

I just finished watching it! I think it was really great, and funny too. It is the first movie I have actually sat down and watched the whole thing through for a very very very long time. My daughter seems to really enjoy it too.

There is some really funny jokes and plenty of things that only Adults will 'get' or appreciate like A. Fol (as already mention by some people) I love how Clutch can see so many different possibilities when he looks a a pile of bricks, it is like a really long ad for LEGO but I do not care AT ALL as I love LEGO so YAY!

Also YAY for an Aussie gal (Yvonne Strahovski), that was really unexpected and a bit random but it made it a little more interesting for me, funnily enough she and Ryan/Clutch are both in the TV show Chuck. The only thing I have to complain about is... I can't stand Clutch's voice. :sceptic: Sorry Ryan McPartlin but I really think they should have re-cast for his role.

My favourite character is Bernie. I think I can now add this to the Movies I can watch again and again list.

I watched it twice today, it is AWESOME, but now do we all call ourselves A.FOLs do we ? :sweet:

It had an original story line to it, but it covered the last 30 years of the minifig, mixing city, SP3, Mars Mission, Castle, Power Miners and finally classic space if I'm not mistaken !

I feel this would make a great kids TV series and then man, what an advert for Lego that would be eh ?!

I&#39;m a conformist&#33; and remember to build off each other !

So every time My daughter (Amelie) wants to watch a movie she will find a corresponding toy to hold while she watches. Like a stuffed panda when she watches Kung Fu Panda, her Woody and Buzz minifigs when she watches Toy Story etc etc etc.

Guess what we are watching for the 4th time???

The more I see it the more I like it, Clutch Powers ON!!! Now where is my merchandise?

Does anyone else thing that we will get Clutch Powers figs? With printing on the side of the legs like the new Max Minifigure? As in the movie Clutch has a seam down the side of his pants and Bernie had pockets on the side of his pants and arms etc. Also the Prince/King dude has printed striped arms. *fingers crossed*
