robuko Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Man of Steel - I did not enjoy, the beginning was good but then there was too much boring fighting which just went on forever and ever. Straight to the bottom of the Superman rakings (Superman 3, Superman, Superman 2, Superman Returns, Superman 4, Man of Steel) The Maltese Falcon - absolutely brilliant detective tale of double and triple cross. Looks like a stage play. Excellent acting from nearly all the leads, Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre steal the show. UHF (which was a recommendation from this forum) I enjoyed very much. Very funny. Michael Richards was fantastic as Stanley Spadowski. Remade as the new muppet movie, it seems. On a recent horror kick World War Z - my first ever zombie movie. Not impressed, the second half of the film looked like a 1970s Doctor Who Episode. Why didn't they just wait for the zombies to starve or die of thirst? Meh. Shaun of the Dead - much scarier and better made than WWZ. Excellent until the end, which was a pretty lame deus ex machina. Scooby Doo Monsters Unleashed - really enjoyable. The effects were superb, the cast were great, the settings imaginative. I guess it bombed because this cast didn't get another movie, but I liked it. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Saw Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters earlier today. It was an excellent film IMO, and was leaps and bounds better than The Lightning Thief (which was a good film). The fact that Sea of Monsters was much more accurate to its book counterpart than The Lightning Thief was does help. It wasn't entirely accurate by any means, but it was accurate enough for my tastes. So far my best film of 2013, having so far seen Wreck-It Ralph (very good), Oz: The Great & Powerful (decent), Man of Steel (very good, slightly better than Wreck-It Ralph), Monsters University (good) and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters this year. Palathadric Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 The Wolverine: I've never been much of a fan of X-Men nor ever seen one of their films - but I ended up watching this with a friend and enjoyed it very much. I found the plot interesting and the action exciting, definitely one worth watching and with no obvious major flaws. Just saw this one last week. Being no major fan of superhero movies, I was surprised that I liked X-Men, in general, quite a bit. This one was a bit of a letdown in my opinion and just seemed so out-of-sync with everything else. Leo604 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Saw Elysium last night; the story and villains were a little shallow but still a decent scifi thriller. Quote
Vindicare Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Saw 2 Guns. Great shoot 'em up action, good comedic moments, cool story. Quote
Kez Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 (edited) I initially intended to go and see kick megablocks 2 yesterday, but in the end I watched grown ups 2 instead, it was so funny and if you are up for a good laugh, I highly recommend you see it (Its filtering my words, whenI type in the film name it honestly comes up with megablocks, give it a try ) Edited August 15, 2013 by Kez Quote
RaincloudDustbin Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Saw Silver Linings Playbook... Must see. Hopefully Kick megablocks 2 soon Quote

RaincloudDustbin Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Or most places to be honest... Still, an ongoing forum joke. Quote

just2good Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Saw Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters today with my mother (bonding time ). It was... eh. I liked the first half, but the second half was kinda boring to me. I really hated how nobody really died. Three fake deaths. Great. I really didn't like the Anabeth character, but I liked the cyclopes half-brother. I'd give it a D+. Also saw Oblivion a few days ago too, another D+. Edited August 17, 2013 by just2good Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Just saw Elysium. Very good sci-fi flick. The story was interesting and there were some lovely slow motion scenes. But there were also many blood, gore and face exploding scenes so don't watch if you can't handle that kind of thing but if you can then go see it immediately. Quote
Kintobor Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 If we're talking for the first time, Abraham Lincoln VS. Zombies. It was goofy, over the top, and I loved every minute of it! It's in no way historically accurate, but I still thought it was a lot of fun! "Emancipate this!" A solid, goofy action movie. The latest movie I've actually sat down and watched was Ghostbusters, but we already know how awesome that movie is, so I won't say anything else other than if you haven't seen it, why are you reading this, go watch it! I heard from Brad Jones that it was better than Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter... Is that true? Quote
Kintobor Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I haven't seen Vampire Hunter, but it's still a fun movie! I actually watched it remembering that Brad really liked it. Definitely worth seeing! Quote
Leo604 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Saw Silver Linings Playbook... Must see. Probably my 3rd or 4th favourite movie of all time. Finally got around to seeing Skyfall on Thursday; the only other Bond movies I've ever seen were Casino Royale and Quantum, but it was definitely superior than the latter. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Saw The Lone Ranger today. Another very good movie that is certainly worth watching. It baffles me that the critics gave the film such poor reviews. They must have been watching an entirely different film to the one I was watching, in any case. For cinema movies in general, I am done until the release of Thor: The Dark World, so I guess I won't be posting in here for a while now. Quote
Daenerys Targaryen Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Watched Olympus Has Fallen again this past weekend - this time on dvd so my dad could it since he hates going to the theater... (something about the lack of a pause button and no vino/beer) Also watched The Core & Battle LA the other night. Can't help liking Aaron Ekheart, though I'm glade he seems to be forgoing anymore mindless chick-flicks. Quote
robuko Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Supergirl. SO much better than Man of Steel. Fantastic special effects and a rather moving story in parts. Top-notch cast too, although both Peter Cook and Peter O'Toole are underused. Nearly as good as Superman 3. I would love to see a Supergirl DC Superheroes set. Helen Slater and Peter O'Toole vs Fay Dunaway and Peter Cook. That would be awesome. Quote
Kez Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I watched Kick Áss 2 yesterday, it was a really great film with some extremely funny parts in it, if you like them sortif films Id advise you to go and watch it. I also watched step brothers aswell yesterday, that was one of the most funniest films Ive watched in a long time. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 To my surprise, I ended up going to the cinema again the other day to see The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with my family. Having not read the book myself, I thought it was a decent film, even if numerous tings were left unexplained by the film. My sister, who has read the book, complained about how the film was inaccurate to the book for hours afterwards. Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Just saw R.I.P.D, it was a little silly but I thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds. Quote
ep3_lol Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Either Jackie Brown or The Conjuring, can't remember which. Both are superb. Quote
Brawl Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 Now You See Me. It was pretty good. A little boring, but worth seeing. Most of the 'big twists' weren't really that surprising, the moving overall was just too easy to figure out. There was one big twist near the end that I never saw coming though. Quote
Leo604 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Drinking Buddies; some of the characters and parts of the plot were rather boring, but I think it was still a good and, importantly, realistic movie. Quote
