Saw 'The Neverending Story' yesterday, man does it bring back those childhood memories, and it also being an 80's film is another reason to love it!

8.5/10

This film is one of those fantasy films that are added to my collection of mystical fantasy films, along with 'Legend', 'Krull' etc

Just watched Fast and furious 6 and Unknown. Both great movies and a must see.

Saddened to know it's Paul Walkers final film.

Almost forgot to post here, the two most recent (new) films I've seen are TMNT and Fury, both are excellent and dramatic at the same time, I highly recommend these films. :classic:

I don't like posting films I've already seen, so the latest film I watched was A Brony Tale. If you want an honest, sincere opinion about ponies and the fandom it sparked, it's worth the watch.

Watched a few movies recently. Went out to see the Book of Life last weekend and stayed in and watched Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Grosse Pointe Blank this afternoon. Highly recommend all three of them for a good laugh. :classic:

Transformers the 80's movie. If you've seen it yourll know why we didn't get another until 2007. Witness the deaths of all your favorite heroes, buy the new toys, see the death star transform. Watch as the dinobots become goofs.

The Lego movie, best "cartoon" movie in many years. Could due without the live action though.

The last movie I watched was "Bad Words". It had some funny moments.

But before that was "Godzilla" (2014). I had some issues with that one. For one Godzilla was a secondary character in his own movie. Next when Godzilla did fight the other monsters it was for like a second. And the last thing the dam movie when "dark" or "pitch black". (Of course I am thinking I could blame my TV for that one, but I think to many movies have a similar problem with the dark scale.)

Oh, I know. I really hate it when the movies get too dark. I haven't figured out how to fix that on my main TV so sometimes I just can't see 5hit.

The last movie I actually sat through was Cry Baby with Johnny Depp, that was Saturday maybe.

I saw Whiplash recently. Review ahead:

Whiplash, starring Miles Teller and JK Simmons, tells the story of Andrew Neyman (Teller), an aspiring drummer at a prestigious music university, whose skills and persistence catch the eye of Terence Fletcher (Simmons), the hard-edged conductor of the school's studio jazz band.

The film is driven by performances, not an inherently unique trait, but the way it handles its characters is worth mentioning. Fletcher, the secondary character, is given much more dialogue than Neyman, the main character. Yet, despite this gross difference in amount of dialogue, Teller and Simmons manage to greatly enhance the tension of the film through their screen presences, relentlessly pushing at one another with an equal force. It builds and builds until the third act rears its head, which sees the explosion of this tension. Whiplash wouldn't have been nearly as successful if it weren't for the third act. It contains perhaps the most captivating ending to a film in years; I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.

I was also pleasantly surprised with the direction the film went in terms of themes. I thought I had it all figured out when I viewed the trailer, but it is far more complex than it lets on. Instead of going for the age-old theme of feelings and relationships over accomplishments, Whiplash presents both sides of the argument equally. The theme is dependent on one's personal beliefs.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the music. The titular song, "Whiplash," a jazz standard, sounds fantastic with the accelerated tempo. There were a couple of moments when the performers didn't match up with the recording added in post-production, but these were few and far between.

Whiplash not only met the hype I had for it, it surpassed the hype. It's something that's best experienced on the big screen with booming speakers. The film grabs you, excites you to its final moments, and then leaves you breathless.

I think the films get more hate than they deserve.

Eh, they're pretty terrible. If you add up the entire runtime of the four films, it equal 616 minutes or 10 hours. What warrants this? The simplistic, formulaic plots that they all follow? The little to no characterization? I can't connect to anyone or anything in those movies. I couldn't care less what happens. My ears and eyes are being senselessly tortured with over saturated explosions and loud noises. I'm bored and miserable when I watch them.

This goes for all four of them. Yeah, Transformers 1 is better than the rest, but it's still only gets a 4/10. It's not good but it's not as bad. So that's an accomplishment?

Watched parts of a childhood favorite, 2002's Scooby-Doo last weekend. Gee. That hasn't aged too well. The cast was perfect in their respective roles, but the CGI is just terrible. Good for reliving the good-old days, and a perfect cast, but otherwise... Eh, it was alright.

Also saw parts of the Country Bears last weekend, also from 2002. I remember passing that one up, that was the first movie I decided not to see. As a child, I was apparently quite intelligent. That was so utterly horrific I cannot even put it into words. Wow!

I also saw Empire of the Sun from 1988 as part of a school project. Pretty good, but it went on longer than it needed to, I think. I'm not really that fond of war movies, but this one was a pretty interesting perspective.

Please don't get me started, I don't want to start a debate.

Because I will tear super hero movies apart and I don't want feelings hurt.

I don't think Superhero movies should be put on the same plane as the Transformer movies. Ever.

Now I know not everyone thinks this, but in my personally honest opinion, super hero movies are "science" fiction at its worst. And I have science in quotes because they stretch it to its breaking point in those movies. They really ought to be classified as fantasy (another genre I have no interest it.)

I'm sorry if that sounded harsh, I just get really defensive if someone bashes transformers (accept prime and animated, in my mind, those never happened.)

The Transformers films have long since abandoned science fiction. Age of Extinction literally threw out physics just to show off all the product placement deals they got (Transformium). Most Superhero movies released now are much better made than the Transformers films (and have better continuity).

I know aoe was bad.

But you don't get super strength by being bombarded with beta particals, I'm sorry, but you wind up dead. You can't fly though the atmosphere and be fine, you end up as bits of carbonized bone ( if your lucky). If your bit by a spider, ooh the possibilities: rapid flesh decay, nerve damage, blood clotting, heart problems, brain damage (as some venoms can pass the blood-brain barrier), uncontrollable muscle spasms. Not to mention the pain and somethimes ichyness pf the bite site. Last I checked, super powers are not on the list. There are no doubt countless other impossible ways they get super powers.

Ugh, I did it, I bashed super hero movies. Every time! Every single time! I'm sorry, its like I just have to do it, I don't want to, I really don't. I hope I didn't crush any dreams. :'(

Shall we get back on track?

Perhaps superhero films are science fantasy then. That doesn't make them bad, it just makes them of a different genre. But I will agree there are some pretty bad superhero movies out there (Man of Steel, ASM2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and Green Lantern come to mind), but for the most part, Marvel knows how to make a competent film. Let's take The Avengers for example. I'll compare it to Transformers because both have to juggle a large cast of characters. The Avengers takes its time to develop characters, to show the relationships between each hero. It has a loose, formulaic story, like Transformers, but it works here because the script is tight and the action is exciting. I can tell who is who, what is going on, why they are fighting, etc. The Transformers films flash explosions in your face and bombard you with loud noises. The fights are between robots with no personality. Note: this isn't a criticism of the Transformers franchise, I'm sure that the characters are very defined and memorable in other iterations, this is criticism of the Bay trilogy quadrilogy.

Judging by your next post (I just saw it), superheroes are a taste issue for you. I can suspend my disbelief of the science of superheroes if the characters are defined and dynamic and the action is intelligible. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything, just a healthy discussion of why we like the movies we like. :classic:

I'll end this debate once and for all. I think we can all agree that...

Both superheroes...

And Transformers...

Are better than...

Sci-Fi originals like Pirhanna-Conda or Super-Shark vs. Mega-Croc.

We now return you to the discussion of the last movie you watched.

Monty: ya that must be it, I don't like the taste, (i prefer science with just a very light fiction seasoning) but we all like what we like :).

Borador: yes, those (shark ado and the like) stink like rotten cheese.

The last (sorta) movie I watched was apes 2. You just know theres going to be a third! I like that the movie was about the apes, with humans just being a supporting role.
