CM4Sci Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 This month in CM4Sci Catches Up On Movies He Hasn't Seen That He Should Have... Gremlins - I liked it. I didn't know pretty much anything about the movie before watching it, but it was good! Will watch Gremlins 2 soon. E.T. - Not as good as Gremlins, I'd say. A little slow and weird. Still sorta liked it! Lilo & Stitch - Also pretty good. Sleeping Beauty - Enjoyed it. I had no idea it was so old, though... Also watched.. Krampus - I had been wanting to see the movie since I saw the trailer for it. Not big on modern horror movies but I liked this one, it was funny. Funny and horrifying. Quote
Artanis I Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Warcraft. There was a lot I liked, but more that I sort of just shrugged at. The animation on the orcs and the magic was really amazing, but that was about the only thing in the movie that seemed fully realized. As for the rest--story, script, characters, etc.--everything was lacking a little too much everywhere, to where the whole movie was largely unsatisfying. There was a little too much (nigh gratuitous) on-screen brutality for my taste, and some disturbing scenes; not a movie I am likely to see ever again. Lucky me I saw it for free. (For context, I am only familiar with the franchise to the extent that the games were DOS-based ) Anyone going to this movie with high expectations regarding plot/script or the usual things that movie fans are into is going to be disappointed. The story is of the original game from 1994. Blizzard has the tendency to create interesting fantasy worlds for their games (with not necessarily great stories - but pretty good compared to most traditional computer games), and have always put a lot of work into the visuals in their cut-scenes. This was only ever going to be good looking, with lots of action and blood & guts, and something for long-time fans to enjoy. Considering the current version of the game is so popular, it may still do well enough. I hope it warrants making the 2nd & 3rd game into movies, and the MMO. But ultimately I want them to make Starcraft. Wishful thinking, but you never know... Transformers got 4 (awful) movies. Quote
Leo604 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Saw X-Men in theatres two weeks ago; alright and enjoyable if you don't think too hard about it. Quote
Ceroknight Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Warcraft, I never played it, knew nothing about it. The graphics were incredible and the worst thing about it was probably the human's acting Quote
Captain Britain Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Watched The Conjuring 2 on Wednesday night.. I actually haven't watched a horror movie in a while that made me feel the way I did during that movie! Horrible, yet thrilling and you just can't look away! Great builds, great jumps, great chills.. would definitely recommend it if you like a good horror! Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Last week I watched The Dark Knight; I haven't seen it in a few years. Still very well done, even though the story now is ingrained in my brain. I think my favorite character is the unnamed prisoner in the last scene with the scar/tattoo thingy on his face.Honestly that guy deserves more credit than he gets. Quote
Actor Builder Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Finding Dory Among superfluous sequels, this was one of the best. Not as good as Finding Nemo, obviously, but still a very good Pixar. Quote
Ultron Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 The Conjuring 2: Good, but not as good as the first. Lord of the Rings Cartoon: When you look at it in terms of an adaptation of the first two books in 2 hours, it's not bad. However, the animation was HORRENDOUS; blending live action with cartoon was not a good idea. The cartoon Hobbit still reigns supreme. Will be watching the The Return of the King adaptation soon, I used to watch that one as a child. Quote
Kintobor Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) The Good Dinosaur Wait... hold on... TheGood Dinosaur Having seen the movie, I still don't know what that title is supposed to mean. Sure, Arloo's a relative good pers- er, dinosaur, but so were the tyrannosaurus's. So, yeah, the title sucks. The film, however, was actually pretty good. Definitely not Pixar's best, but it's better than Monster's University and definitely better than Cars 2. The film is both gorgeous, and really awkward looking. The character models and the backgrounds are incredibly detailed, but the more cartoony character models sort of stick out in an odd way with the realistic backgrounds. The character models look great, and they're incredibly expressive, but there were some shots that, for me at least, felt somewhat off. The plot to the movie is simple, and I will say that it does tread familiar as The Land Before Time, an undebatedly better movie, but there was enough new ideas which made it feel like it's own movie. The film's plot is strung together by a series of loosely connected events as Arloo tries to get back home to his family, while slowly becoming friends with a primitive human boy who responds to the name Spot. Some of the set pieces are better than others. I wish those T-Rex's would've hung around longer, as they were really fun characters. All in all, not Pixar's best, but I wouldn't say it's as bad as some people have said it is. Edited June 19, 2016 by Kintobor Quote
ZootyCutie Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Saw Finding Dory today. Was adorable and funny, I cried a lot, but I loved it. XD Quote
samurai-turtle Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 On DVD Vacation (2015). They made it seem like Rusty could not catch a break. It does give you a little hope when gets payback on the one guy. But I was wondering about the scene why on one threatened to call security on those guys. Then I watched. LEGO Scooby Doo: Haunted Hollywood. It was a typical Scooby Doo movie but with LEGO. A good thing that comes with the movie is a bonus LEGO Scooby Doo Short and two "vintage" Scooby Doo shows. (But it looks like all the Scooby Doo movies have the bonus shows.) Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted June 23, 2016 Posted June 23, 2016 Finding Dory. Hank was the best character in the whole thing. Still pretty sad though... Quote
slopemodified Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) Finally got around to watching Goodfellas for the first time. An American classic I hear Scorsese really loves stories about crime and gangs! Deadpool. What did you think of it? Edited June 30, 2016 by slopemodified Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 X2: X-Men United- still one of the better X-movies, but it hasn't aged very well. The Producers (1968)- oh my god. That movie is really terrifically funny. Pacific Rim- Bad dialogue, utterly spectacular fight scenes. A bit too long for what it needed to be, though... Quote
N-4K0 Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Independence Day: Resurgence in the cinema earlier tonight. Quote
Littleworlds Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 (edited) The Martian. As a project the film was certainly ambitious and a risk, but the outcome is very convincing. I am familiar with the story of book and the biggest concern was that it wont find the right balance between hard sci-fi and emotional relevance. The film actually got it pretty right. There are some "shortcuts" it took and some minor inconsistencies, but nothing fatal. Makes for an entertaining evening! Edited July 1, 2016 by Littleworlds Quote
samurai-turtle Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Well, I took out my DVDs of Ghostbusters and re-watched the double feature. The fist one I listened the commentary I haven't listened to it before. Oddly the second on doesn't have any just two episodes from the cartoon show, witch I watched again. Quote
Leo604 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 The Purge 3 in theatres on Saturday. A lot of the movie was rather predictable but I still enjoyed it a lot. At this point though, it feels like one of those series they should consider retiring. Quote
rollermonkey Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Finding Dory on Saturday, and The BFG today. Quote
Ultron Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 The Lego Movie the other day. Fantastic movie. The only part that just really bothers me is when Emmett is able to move himself in the real world. Just doesn't really make sense considering everything before was JUST established to have happened because of the kid playing with the figures. Seems a lot like plot convenience to me Quote
