PicnicBasketSam Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I recently realized that I haven't actually seen Mission: Impossible II. So, having enjoyed all the other movies, I tracked it down and watched it... wow. Don't. It's a bat-megabloks ridiculous Bond ripoff that's one part boring and one part more over-the-top than anything Michael Bay ever made. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 JAWS 3. It's worse than Malibu Shark Attack... Quote
Iria Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 During the past week: Mockingjay Part 2 - Meh. Felt compelled to finish the series. Wasn't very memorable. Creed - Usually I'm not a fan of series that go on forever (this would be the 7th? Rocky movie), but this one was better than expected. First Blood (Rambo) - Love it. One of my favourite films. Teasle: Are you telling me that 200 of our men against your boy is a no-win situation for us? Trautman: You send that many, don't forget one thing. Teasle: What? Trautman: A good supply of body bags. YellowCorvette Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Re-watched Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. Still one of my least favorite superhero movies . Quote
-zenn Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I liked it more than Legacy What really killed it for me was how they followed every corny movie trope there was, like the ridiculous hacking sequences or Alicia Vikander's character saying 'enhance' in the first chase scene. Overall it was still enjoyable but maybe they should lay the series to rest. Hahaha, yeah true. At one part they said something along the lines of "Use SQL to hack the database"... SQL = a database. They should've spend some more time on this movie, it looks like a rush job right now. Quote
rodiziorobs Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Guardians of the Galaxy (again, 1st time since theaters). Not bad, but not as good as I remember. Quote

Arlene Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) The Lord of the Rings movies, they showed them on TV in here and it is currently on their online service. I have watched the first and in middle of the second. I may be nitpicking things slightly or maybe just a tiny bit more than that (books! BOOOKS!!!) while I watch... although they are very pretty. If you ever get a chance and your a fan of the books, watch the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings Movies. Even if your not a fan of the books, if you like the movies watch the extended editions. They add a lot of flavor to already fantastic movies. Quote
Actor Builder Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Jurassic Park III. I actually thought it was better than The Lost World: Jurassic Park, although I know most people think it's the worst of the three. It was decent. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 ABBA the Movie (1977). Music was good, storyline of a DJ trying to get an interview with ABBA was not so good. Quote
Vindicare Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Nerve. Pretty cool movie. Definitely gave me a bit of a PokemonGo vibe, in the sense of people, more than usual, staring & concentrating on their screens. It also showed why I hate the Internet so much, anonymity & a lack of consequence & responsibility for ones actions. The concept & story was really quite good though. Quote
Actor Builder Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Suicide Squad, for free, and a few days early. It was a free early screening to promote a local news channel in conglomeration with CW, owned by WB... It was okay. I didn't have high expectations, and it didn't exceed them, but I also wasn't disappointed. Quote

I might if I ever happen by them, then again I might not because it's been few years since books last time and I had forgotten what this story does to me in the end. Got them watched now and I'd stomp around rambling and ranting how that wasn't like this... but I'm too busy being miserable about it. :'D And I was going to be all happy having watched movies and rewatch them while they are available and learn all the awesome quotes and watch all my favorite scenes and... I'm not crying! Maybe in ten years or so. Yeah... Quote

I didn't have high expectations, and it didn't exceed them, but I also wasn't disappointed. It looks pretty bad, but I don't like certain versions of characters used in the film. I'm not a fan of the white trash Harley, and much prefer the original from the Animated Series. Anyways, I watched Ender's Game recently. Not as good as the book (which is normal for a movie based on a book). The pacing felt wrong, and I didn't like some of the changes. Quote

The pacing felt wrong, and I didn't like some of the changes. Yeah, I felt that way as well. Spoiler for those who haven't seen it/read the book. They totally messed things up by removing the subplot with peter and valentine. They decided to make petra the primary female character, which wouldn't have been necessary if they kept the plot. Littleworlds Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Serenity. After I got introduced into firefly a couple weeks ago. Its an excellent series, like many people say, which likely just wasn't typical scifi-formula enough. The film itself though... Uneven, too dark story, too many main cast members dying. And the camera work and special effects were actually not as dynamic as in the series. Quote

There are things I liked about the movie. I thought most of the cast was good. The subplot was definitely missed. For me, I really would have liked to see more Battle School, since they only had a couple of simulations. In the movie, that part went by ridiculously fast, and he didn't kill anyone. Also, Ender stayed the same age throughout, which bothered me. In the book he starts at 6 and wins the final battle at 11 or 12. Then there's the whole part at the end where he finds the egg. That was supposed to happen after travelling to the Bugger home world with Valentine, and at the very end he should have been somewhere in his mid 20's. Just a big mishmosh. Still, despite the inaccuracies, I found it enjoyable. And my girlfriend, who had never read the book, also enjoyed the movie. Quote

I heard they cut the subplot since visually it was just as exciting as watching two teens type on Facebook. Still the idea that people could rise to power over social media was brilliant in the book, especially seeing the book was written pre-internet days. Orson Card really predicted the future on that one. It's a pity my Great Grandmother retired before I was born. I heard she was once Orson S. Card's secretary during a stint of his teaching college classes. Quote

But I felt it could have been alluded to at least, considering how they glossed over everything else. Quote
Artanis I Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 (I don't think this comment needs to be in a spoiler tag.) It's common for stories that take place over a number of years to have the movie be/seem like a few days or weeks. Firstly, there's the pacing of the film. Secondly, there's the age of the actors and in many cases the modern-ness of the sets/fashion etc. It may take away from the impact of the story a bit, but I think it's a fair compromise. Quote
