x105Black Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I watched a really interesting documentary about Paul Simon and Graceland called Under African Skies. Really cool and informative. Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 Moving on with modern DC... I watched Man of Steel. Definitely better than Batman v Superman, and the first 20 minutes looked beautiful, but they royally screwed up Jonathan Kent, the last hour or so of fighting was absurdly long and drawn-out, and the story as a whole seemed rushed and poorly written despite being 2.5 hours long. I don't know how much Nolan did for the film, but it seems like Snyder was trying to make a Superman movie in the exact same style as the Dark Knight Saga and failed. Also, on the list of Disney movies I should have seen before now, Lilo & Stitch. It was a strange movie, but very charming, and I loved that they set it in Hawaii. Seems like an uncommon locale for sci-fi movies to explore. Planet of the Apes (2001) the other night... wow, that was not a good movie at all. Mark Wahlberg had no charisma at all, the apes' makeup looked really odd, and the ending made NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. I cannot wait to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes and cleanse my memory of that boring pile of weird. Quote
samurai-turtle Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Star Wars episodes 1, 2 & then 3. I heard 1 & 2 could of use some editing to make them better (for the race and love parts). And I think the person(s) are right. Of course I kind of wish some of the stuff was better explain in episode 2 like did the council check out Sydefous and Jango more. Quote
x105Black Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 How many movies do you watch, Black? I work in broadcasting, so I watch a lot of movies. I watched How to Murder Your Wife. Good stuff. Quote
N-4K0 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Just got hme from the cinema watching Star Trek: Beyond. Never been a huge fan of this franchise, but enjoyed the movie. Quote
x105Black Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I watched Who's Harry Crumb? at work today. Silly. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 I was house sitting and watched Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2. They felt so 1980ish. I found 1 better than 2. The house had weird creaking noises... Quote
rodiziorobs Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 What's up Doc? (That's the name of the movie, if you're unfamiliar with it. Quote
-zenn Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Equals It's like a mash-up of of Gattaca, 1984, THX 1138, Equilibrium & The Island. Quote
Bricky Dee Williams Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I rewatched Man of Steel on FX the other night. For the mixed opinions it gets, you can't deny it has a terrific finale. Quote
x105Black Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 I just got home from watching Kubo and the Two Strings. What a great movie. I highly recommend it. Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted August 26, 2016 Posted August 26, 2016 Rise of the Planet of the Apes. That was a really awesome movie... as stupid as the people were, still awesome. On to the sequel! Quote
x105Black Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I watched Straight Talk with Dolly Parton today. Not bad. I would have preferred something different, but that's what was on. Quote
Ceroknight Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Kubo and the Two Strings, great humbling movie I recommend it as well. Also my friend worked on some of the animation so good on him! Quote

PicnicBasketSam Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Troll 2, the other day, on the bad movie channel. Oh God, that was awful... pretty entertaining, but awful. Superman Returns... boring! And too much like the original movie to do anything interesting. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes- even better than the first movie. Never thought a movie about talking CGI apes would be so awesome. BrickTamland Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 They Live, a thought provoking romp with a b-movie feel from John Carpenter. Quote
x105Black Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I watched Stepping Out with Liza Minnelli. It was fair. Another instance where I would have preferred to watch something different. Quote
Iria Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 John Wick - Long and boring, with a pretty pointless plot. The Hateful Eight - Even longer. Found it boring, though the it became more interesting during the last 20% of the film. Way too much dialogue. Some lovely cinematography though, especially the shots of the snow capped landscape. samurai-turtle Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Last week I re-watched Spider-Man 1&2. (I watched it with the technical commentary on. And I thought it was a little dry. It might be better as a pod-cast. Well that the thought that went threw my head.) Next I watched again "Full Metal Alchemist - The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa" (Long megablocks title isn't it.) The hero (Edward) is stuck here in our world during 1923 Germany. Trying to get back to his brother (Alphonse). Who has been training to be an alchemist back in his home. Hoping to find a way to get back to Edward. Last movies I watched (on Sunday/Monday) was BvS:RoJ & Jurassic World. I got two problems with BvS:FoJ. First one the title everyone says "V" when it is obviously verses, couldn't they put the "vs." in the title, seems they were some how being cheap. The second one is the trailers for the movie, it gave away everything no surprises at all. For Jurassic World it was just mediocre. (Well I guess you could say that for BvS:DoJ too.) The big bad Dino ended up getting eaten by a big "fish". I ended up not caring in the end. The movie also came off trying to be just like the original (Jurassic Park). Quote

Batman v Superman has a "v" instead of "vs" because the "v" is used in a legal context, as in a court case. I really enjoyed Jurassic World, personally. There were a few minor gripes, but I had those with the original Jurassic movies as well. I thought it turned out good overall. Anyways, the last movie I watched was Bandits with Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Cate Blanchett. It's a pretty good movie. I enjoyed it. Nothing amazing, but entertaining. Quote

xboxtravis7992 Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 (edited) Last night I watched Saving Private Ryan for the first time. It's a film my dad has been meaning for me to watch for a long time, and it's recent arrival on Netflix spurred the decision. Yesterday also was the anniversary of the signing of a the peace treaty between the US and the Empire of Japan, which ended WWII. The movie made me cry, twice. Perhaps my understanding of war has changed as I have grown older, and recently I have gained new perspective (I read All Quite on the Western Front, a WWI novel nearly a year ago.) While watching the horror on Normandy Beach I was shocked when my dad told me the one of the late founders of a local musuem was one of the men who fought and survived that battle. The two parts that made me cry were (Warning Major Spoilers) 1. At the end of the battle of Normandy Beach with a long pan over the dead bodies, followed by the moment Mrs. Ryan learns three of her son's are dead. 2. At the end of the film when James Ryan, as an elderly man; stands in the Normandy grave yard, contemplating "have I lived up to what they did for me?" It's a brutal movie to be honest. But it's one I feel everybody needs to see at least once in their lifetime. Edited September 3, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
