Forresto Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Ouija: Origin of Evil...nope! Don't do it to yourself. Not worth the time. Quote
x105Black Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I watched Slap Shot last night. It was really funny. It was also longer than I expected it to be. Quote
-zenn Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 Star Trek: Beyond Loved it, but I thought the ending was kinda weak and too fast. They could've made the movie longer if it was up to me. Quote
PicnicBasketSam Posted October 2, 2016 Posted October 2, 2016 I've watched quite a number of movies in the past week and a bit. Justice League vs. Teen Titans- It was OK, but I thought it would be more Civil War and less fighting some demon. WarGames- Very exciting and very funny... why did Cap watch this BEFORE Star Wars, though?! The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy- Both very good movies, although I'm not a huge fan of the jitter cam, especially in the 2nd. RED- Part road trip, part action movie, part rom-com... with a bunch of older actors having a blast. I really like that movie. Quote
Ultron Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I saw the newer Goosebumps movie on Netflix. It wasn't bad and was best when it tried to make fun of the tropes of horror movies, but still fell into several of them. Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I just rewatched A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith. I forgot how ANH is enjoyable, the final battle over Yavin NEVER gets old and seeing the gang at the end being all happy together.... :) And to screw everything up I watched Revenge of the Sith, and jesus christ the movie is frustrating and sad to watch. x105Black Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I watched Overnight Delivery with Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon. It was pretty funny. Quote
Forresto Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 (edited) Quiz Show. Fantastic movie, crazy to think that the events in it really happened although not to surprising. Companies get greedy and TV ratings mean everything. 16 hours ago, RetroInferno said: I just rewatched A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith. Still better then Return of the Jedi though. I just wished someone else would have played Anakain. Someone of Adam Driver's caliber. Edited October 3, 2016 by Forresto Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Return of the Jedi has the whole Jabba's palace and Luke + Vader + Emperor confrontation which are awesome. The battle over the Death Star 2 is also very nice. My least favorite of the trilogy but I enjoy it very much. The only thing I really like about Revenge of the Sith is Ian McDarmid and Ewan McGregor's acting. Quote

And it wasn't really bad, which I expected because it has Bon Jovi in it. Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I watched Empire Strikes Back and It Follows, a very disburting true horror movie ( no jump scare or gore, pure athmosphere and creepyness ). Quote
Forresto Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) The Conjuring 2 again. I really like that movie. While not a movie I watched a miniseries, Over the Garden Wall, due to the arrival of fall. A perfect series from beginning to end and when watched all at once is basically a movie split into several chapters since its only about 2 and half hours in total. The Thing. My favorite horror movie of all time and it still holds up. I always get the creeps mostly because those situations where anyone including the protagonist could be the invader are fairly tense and intriguing. This time around my mind was blown when I realized something about the ending. I won't spoil it but if you haven't, go watch the Thing. Oh no agreed there are many super cool aspects, some of my favorite SW characters and moments are in Return of the Jedi but that's why I may be harshest on it. It could have and had all the workings to be the greatest SW movie. However there are so many things dragging it down. First of all while the Jabba's Palace stuff is really great, after all my two favorite SW creatures the Rancor an Sarlacc make their debut here, it feels really disjointed with the rest of the film. The ground stuff on Endor is infuriating, the ewoks are the epitome of what I dislike about the franchise, and the battle is ruined by teddy bears not only defeating elite soldiers, but defeating them so easily and with few casualties. The space battle is epic but why on earth could a single fighter be capable of bringing down the badass Executor? Then when you add all of the changes Lucas made, there are a dozen more things such as the celebration scenes and force ghost Hayden Christensen that are irksome. Sorry for the paragraph by the way Once I start writing about that movie I find it hard to stop. There is a lot to love about that movie but also a similar amount to be frustrated by. RetroInferno Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 (edited) Yeah, there are some elements that really pisses me off in the movie too, I think you named all of them except for Boba Fett's cheap ''death'' scene. Stormtroopers also make their only inconsistent battle on Endor too: every other time they either kick their megablocks are supposed to let them escape ( Death Star ) or lead them somewhere ( Bespin ). Hopefully the empire will feel bad megablocks once again in Rogue One or I'm gonna be mighty pissed. I watched The Thing around 10 times, what did you noticed about the ending? The joke that stormtroopers can't hit anything is funny but I think true only to the point that they can't hit the main characters and that's just a plot device. Anyone else and they tear things up especially rebel soldiers. As for the Thing it's probably not that big of a revelation (I also may have read it somewhere years ago) but it has to do with the final scene. I don't remember the characters names so for clarity i'll use the actors names. When Kurt Russell and Keith David are the last two survivors and are sitting around talking i've always assumed that either Keith David had become one of the organisms or they were both human. Either way we the audience would never know, which is perfect for a film where none of the characters know. But what I had never truly considered was whether Kurt Russell had become one of the creatures. I think that would be a pretty brilliant twist if he was. To me Russell's character seems pretty on point about wiping out the organisms to prevent them from spreading to the mainland and he's so chilled out at the end. Plus handing Keith David the drink, that would be a shifty way of ensuring David would be infected. Edited October 6, 2016 by Forresto Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 There is literally a mountain of stuff people are going crazy over the ending of that movie. And truth is we just can't tell, and Carpenter wanted it that way. Quote

I actually love the Ewoks, but I do understand why some people are frustrated by how easily they defeat the ground forces on the forest moon. Then again, I was only 2 when Return of the Jedi was released, and the main complaint about the Ewoks was that they were put in to appeal to children. I was about 4 when the Ewoks animated series originally aired, and I loved that show when I was a kid. I am also partial to furry creatures in general, though (Ewoks, Wookiees, Wampas, etc). Hard to tell if that's cause or effect in this case. That said, I despised a lot of similar things from the prequels, and I'm sure there are children out there that ate it up like I did the Ewoks. Other things, I agree with. Hayden should not have been in the movie, and Boba Fett died too easily. Anyways, the last movie I watched was called Spring Breakdown. It starred Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Jane Lynch, and Parkey Posey (I'm a big fan of hers). Sophie Monk is also in this movie, which improves the viewing experience. The movie was a letdown, overall, but had its moments. Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 From what I understand when Empire was shot a second trilogy would already have been in the works: the main villain of Jedi would have been Boba Fett, and the second trilogy about the Emperor and Vader. The crew of Jedi HATED the ewoks idea, that was George pushing for it. Honestly I don't like ewoks, but they kind of work as long as you see them like they really are; very strong people eating evil bears. My buff is with the AT-ST guys, first guy gets shot out of his cockpit, another one gets hijacked by Chewie which pretty much sealed the deal right there and the others fell into obvious traps. Quote

I was about five years old when The Phantom Menace was released and I LOVED IT at that age. Everything from the battle droids, podracing, to Darth Maul. It wasn't until I was older that I came to terms of just how bad of a movie it was compared to the original. But if evidence is needed that the stuff meant to appeal to children in TPM, I can vouch that as a child it was very appealing! I also don't mind Ewoks, just because they remind me of Shi-Tzu's and that is an instant pass in my book. Anyways back to the topic, the last movie I watched was Sully. It was a nice dramatic movie to watch, although it stressed me out every time they recreated the crash/water landing sequence despite the fact that I knew that nobody died. The tension was very well handled, although the time jumps in the story did muddle the plot at times. Edited October 6, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 changed age at time to the correct number Quote

I loved Darth Maul, but didn't care for the battle droids, or the podracing (which I always took as a play on NASCAR racing). I also didn't like the Gungans (but I don't know anyone who seriously did) because Jar Jar spoiled the whole bunch for me. As for my most recent watch, I saw Confessions of a Sorority Girl. Unfortunately, it's not as exciting as it sounds, but it does have Alyssa Milano in it, so that's a plus. Edited October 6, 2016 by x105Black Quote
Artanis I Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Got enough self-restraint to not respond to the SW discussion, but Alyssa Milano was (is?) an absolute knockout... and that is as much as I'll say. Whew Quote

Forresto Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Noroi: The Curse I love scary stories from Japan so this was interesting. I don't know whether I liked it or not but I don't regret watching it. Another found footage film. I don't hate the Ewoks as a species or even a concept but I despise the way they were handled and shown and therefore dislike them immensely. If we actually saw them as ferocious creatures that would be cool sort've like mini wampas. Really what the Battle of Endor should've been is the scene from the Mummy 2 where they're in the jungle and the pygmy mummies annihilate the army. That's not what we got though. What we got were stormtroopers stumbling down and getting thwomped by stone hammers that I feel most people could withstand without any armor on. How do arrows penetrate armor? How on earth did they know where the AT-STs were going to walk so they could crush them with swinging logs? Even as a kid that battle frustrated me, but that maybe because at the same time I was also allowed to watch serious war movies like Apocalypse Now amongst others. I agree though, for the most part what we do grow up with is what we will find more acceptable. Quote
-zenn Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Just seen Suicide Squad. Although I liked looking at Harley Quinn. The movie was weak. The trailers made it look so much better. Quote
x105Black Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Last night, I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron. Overall, it was good. I could have done without the religious overtones. It was not the best movie in the MCU, but it was still fun. Quote
