Forresto Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) I would totally agree. I just recently watched the new Ghostbusters and it was disappointingly average. However there is enough good material and cool aspects to it that I would love to see a sequel. Gods of Egypt - Oh god where to begin. First off the white washing. I want to state I am a nerdy white guy just for transparency. When I watch old movies from the forties and fifties set in Ancient Egypt where everyone is played by white people, I accept it as being a product of the time and more in line with a shakespearean play then a true history. However in this case when the god Set has a Scottish accent and almost every god or mortal Egyptian is a white British person i'm suddenly ripped out of the immersion of the world they were setting up. Egypt is in Africa for goodness sake! It's in the middle of a massive desert! I am a pasty descendent of irishmen and I know I could never survive in that climate in a time before the glorious invention of sunscreen. However despite highly questionable casting, that's not a dig at the normally incredible actors, nothing could have saved the movie from the generic action adventure plot. I always try to find positive in the negative, especially in movies. Where this movie shines is the visual and distinct artistic style. There's some really cool stuff in here but even then despite the unique setting there is also something generic feeling about the CGI. I feel like i've seen these special effects numerous times before. I couldn't tell you what it is. There are some great monsters and intriguing costumes. Altogether though this movie falls flat where it should've soared. Ancient Egyptian mythology is incredibly fascinating and intriguing without the need of embellishment and yet somehow this movie made it uninteresting and to be honest kinda boring. To make matters worse the only two characters of any significance played by a non white actor were killed almost immediately after their introduction. Edited October 25, 2016 by Forresto Quote
samurai-turtle Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Ghostbusters: Answer the Call - Thinking about it, I think the main cast was wrong for part(s). Then WALL-E, I not sure what to say. It is a good movie better than GB:AtC. (I guess it is a little surprising that it took me so long to see the movie.) Quote
BaneShake Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Last movie I saw was Suicide Squad, on one of the last showings available. Quote
Forresto Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Let the Right One In. I watched the American version 'Let Me In' years ago and loved it but now seeing the original Swedish movie...The Swedish version may be one of my favorite movies of all time! Quote
rodiziorobs Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Spent a couple days sick in bed this week and watched The Sorceror's Apprentice (cheesy and silly with bad Nic Cage hair), Zootopia (not bad with some great moments), Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (such bad stupid fun), and Kung Fu Panda 3 (enjoyably watchable) Quote

Artanis I Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 The Revenant. Not one for girls! It was pretty gross at times. We don't learn American history, so it took a bit to figure out what was going on regarding who the groups were, what they were trying to do and so on. Also, "don't you guys eat any vegetables?" Renga Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 It's Halloween night... I couldn't find the movie (any of them) to save me. Ended up with The Devil's Rejects :-) Quote
berrys66 Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 The Incredible Shrinking Man - on the TV at the weekend. Quote
Forresto Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) The Fog - The second scariest movie about condensation in my opinion, just behind the Mist. The Thing - I just watched this a short while ago but it really is my favorite horror film so was a must on Halloween. Also a much better John Carpenter film then the Fog. 13 hours ago, Artanis I said: Didn't know there was an American version. But of course there would be... Its honestly pretty great and despite being a remake somehow still feels very unique compared to most American films. Of course there are things changed to better fit American culture and what many Americans find acceptable. Eli's gender and sex I believe are made unquestionably female in the american version whereas the Swedish version deals a lot with themes of gender fluidity. Just as with the American version of The Grudge its different to the original and yet still a high quality film. Edited November 1, 2016 by Forresto Quote
samurai-turtle Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 X-MEN: Apocalypse, OK for a X-MEN movie, but I wonder if they are going to keep "re-boot" the series. (Of course they put in another Star Trek Easter egg. Speaking of Star Trek ... ) Next move I watched Star Trek: Beyond. For an Star Trek movie it was action packed. (But their is a sad note with the two actors dieing in real life. The movie was able to use Leonard Nimoy death for a subplot.) Quote

Pre Michael Bay I think, I should rewatch it (it has been a really long time since I seen it). And now another move, I think bunch of us are going to watch this weekend Dr. Strange. It feels like someone (in special effects department) really like the kaleidoscope. I wished more variety of powers was shown. But I digress, I did enjoy the film. And be sure to watch the credits all the way to the end. P.S. Something I just thought of, if we spoted a bunch of discrepancies for Dr. Strange will the producers blame it on a wizard. Plus, I re-watched (the other day). Lilo & Stitch with the commentary on. (If you watch the bonus material you will find out what effects 9-11 had on this film.) Then Underdog, for some reason I thought it had a commentary track. (But it doesn't look like it has one.) But hay, if you like Peter Dinklage, this is one film to watch him in. (I am guessing most of us forgot he was even in this film.) Edited November 5, 2016 by samuraiturtle Add a comment Quote

I thought the horse-cozy scene was hilarious. My boyfriend, not so much. That reminds me- dammit! I wanted to dress up this halloween as the horse scene in that movie. I would have put on one of those creepy horse masks, worn a fake wool coat and taped a print out of Leo's face to my stomach. Ah, missed opportunities. Quote

Actor Builder Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) The 1916 version of "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea". It was okay. I prefer the 1954 version, personally. It has a lot more sound. And color. It has more color. Edited November 6, 2016 by Actor Builder Quote
