Watched the new Futurama movie "The Beast with a Billion Backs" the other day. It was pretty good, I think, or at least better than the last movie "Bender's Big Score" which had a confusing story and drew most of its humor from refferences to old episodes. Although this latest adventure of the Planet Express crew has kind of a weird story too (Which Futurama story doesn't? ) and some a little peverse jokes, I can recommend it to anyone who likes Futurama as it certainly has the feel of the show. :classic:

What's also neat are the special features on the DVD which include "the lost Futurama episode", which is a collection of the cutscenes from the Futurama Videogame and is pretty cool. Also, there is a preview of the next Futurama movie called "Bender's Game". It looks alright; it's about the gang visiting a planet that is exactly like the world of "D&D". What is most interesting, though, is that they will be attending a Spaceship Derby on the way, and that one of the contestants is flying a ship made out of Lego Bricks! :sweet: That's gonna be fun!

I'll give a list!

I watched the road to El Dorado on a video I have only just got out of the shelf, last time I saw it was at the cinema in 2000! It's really good for a cartoon, it has Elton John singing and a random Mesoamerican civilisation! What more could a cartoon movie need!?

Saw Kungfoo Panda the other night with Cptn PB.

I thought it was funny, and I enjoyed it.

Geoff, however, thought it wasn't worth watching.

Something about it being a poorly thought up hybrid of naruto and tnmt (ninja turtles).

It was a bit predictable, but it's a kiddy movie so that's expected.

Has anyone else seen it?

I don't think Wall-E or Kung Fu Panda are out yet.

I know for sure that Wall-e comes out in ENGLAND on 18th July.

I recently watched Predator 1 last Sunday, what a classic

I have. It was pretty good. It has some funny moments, but other than that, it was quite predictable and kind of unoriginal. But the quality CG animation, the great humor, and the fact that it's a kids movie as you say, make up for it. :classic:

Just bought and watched Batman: Gotham Knight. I was pleasantly surprised, most of the six stories were very good.

The weakest segment was the first: Have I Got A Story For You, though it did cleverly show the kids as a metaphor for the writers and artists making their own interpretations. It was definitely the weakest though.

Crossfire was good, Batman was pretty Badass and it was cool to see a mob war. It also included Crispus Allen (yay!) and a female cop also in the upcoming TDK.

Field Test I also liked. It dealt with how Batman chooses not to endanger others to save his own mission as the mission is his, and thus must be the penalties. Lucius Fox was great, and this also included Sal Maroni, the man who wil scar Harvey, and also appears in TDK. The art made Bruce look a little effeminate but you just have to get over those kind of things.

In Darkness Dwells was brilliant, an awesome noir detective/horror story. The interaction between Gordon and Bats is very cool, and the drawing style and animation is great. Killer Croc and Scarecrow are both very cool in this segment, a tad underused in Croc's case but awesome nonetheless.

Working Through Pain was amazing, a truly wonderful story showing that Batman cannot overcome his pain as his trainer puts it, as his pain is what drives him. The end, with the

Reveal hidden contents

as a metaphor for Batman being unable to let go of this pain as it could cost others what it cost him, is a truly sad ending and definitely appreciated more on the second turn.

Deadshot is the finale, and a classic one at that. What is so great is that it shows Batman's understanding of the attraction of guns, mirrored chillingly by Deadshot, master assassin. The animation in this segment is the best, with standout action sequences. The end is also very bittersweet, which is perfect for a Batman story.

So overall I am very happy to have purchased it, the style may be al ittle hard to get used to, but trust me the second time you view it, it is all the more enjoyable.

King Kong.

Honestly, I was extremely disapointed by this movie, after having such high hopes for it. All the action scenes were great, but there were some serious flaws that kinda spoiled it for me:

- Firstly, parts of the movie really dragged. Certain scenes were so slow and drawn out that they weren't enjoyable at all - mainly the scenes with Ann and King Kong. True, they were somewhat touching, but they were so long that they lost some of their effect. :sceptic:

- Another problem - there were at least two gigantic plotholes. How did the Captian and the remaining crew members find the guys when they were being attacked by the giant bugs? And more importantly: How in blazes did they get a violent, 25 foot tall ape all the way back to New York on a damaged steamboat, when not even giant iron chains could hold Kong back? :hmpf:

- And the final big spoiler - all the main characters except Ann like to use the same two swear words over and over again, which makes the dialogue so ridiculous that it's as silly as the dialogue in current Batman comics. Just replace G*d-D**m with Je*us and Cr*st and you've got King Kong. :hmpf:

So overall, a really disapointing movie for me. I won't be watching it again.

I was in Wal-mart the other day when I noticed a 20th anniversary edition of one of my favorite films, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. It's one of those 'hidden gems' of a film that most folks haven't seen or heard of. Directed by Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam, it's a mix of adventure and comedy based on the old tall tales of the title character as he goes from one improbable exploit to the next (from a trip to the moon in a hot air balloon made from women's underwear to traveling across the ocean in the belly of a monsterous fish). It has an outstanding cast including another MP alum, Eric Idle and an uncredited cameo by Robin Williams as the insane King of the Moon. I really enjoyed watching it with my kids (their first time) and would highly recommend it to anyone here.

Saw Hellboy II and loved it. A good smasher film with soul.

"She's gonna eat the cat! Oh god, I can't watch."

Hellboy II! Very entertaining, lot of different internal themes which made for a good movie!

The Dark Knight is set for Friday at noon before I go to work so I already know and don't have to hear about all the spoilers!

I'm seeing it on Wednesday! Go Aus and our mostly good movie times!

The latest movie I saw wasn't in cinemas.

Well, actually, the latest movie I saw was Shrooms, as we tend to watch movies at our LANs. David picks the movies, and strangely, all the movies he picks are terrible, whether it be from a DVD he brings, or the channel he flicked to on TV.

Anyway, the movie I was meaning was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Fantastic movie, that one. I recommend it, though I guess it's an acquired taste. :sceptic:

THE DARK KNIGHT!

Oh. My. Goodness. This is definitely the best summer flick of the year BAR NONE! I saw it last night on opening day, and gosh I can't stop thinking about it.

Heath Ledger was simply perfect as the Joker, a menacing villain completely opposite to Batman who is both charismatic, hilarious, crazy and yet totally scary. His plan is amazingly evil, topping Ra's one in BB as he is not simply destroying a city, but turning it rotten. No seriuosly, this is easily one of the best movie villains ever, a billion times better than Jack Nicholson playing Jack Nicholson in the 89 movie. Aaron Eckhart is brilliant as District Attorney Harvey Dent, who is both very likeable and admirable, yet still succeeds in having a three dimensional character. His turn near the end is one of the saddest things. Christian Bale has improved upon his Batman since BB, he still manages to be the main character in the film, a torn man who must come to realise his presence will inspire good, but also evil. Gary Oldman reprises his role as Gordon, one that is far more challenged this time around with shocking events surrounding him. Maggie Gyllaenhaal is far better than Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes, this time around her character is given far more depth and sadness. Morgan Freeman also comes back as techno wiz Lucius Fox and Cillian Murphy reprises the Scarecrow in a brief scene that may just be one of my favourite cameos ever.

As for the story, I plan on this review being spoiler free, but let me just say this movie is DARK. No seriously, if you thought BB was dark you were wrong, TDK makes that movie look like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Do NOT take young kids to see this film, there are moments with so much tension and suspense that even I found it hard to look at the screen. This is no Spiderman, this is almost no Superhero film, as Nolan the director has stated this is an epic crime drama like the comics, with metaphors, foreshadowing and themes present throughout. Not just the Joker is dark either, but Harvey Dent's story (the TRUE backbone of the film) ends in a very nasty place.

The action has stepped up too, with brilliant camera work that is much easier to see now. The Batpod chase sequence is superb, with so many wonderful toys and tricks up both Batman's and the Joker's sleeves. But the real best part in terms of epicness and sheer heroism is the final confrontation with the Joker as thousands of lives hang in the balance, with a very cruel and ironic play from the Joker to fool the police.

Overall this movie may well be my favourite of the year, a fantastic look into why we need heroes and if we need them at all, and a dark and amazing journey and change in the lives of all characters involved. I give it 5/5, not only the best superhero movie ever, but a mesmerising one against all mediums.

WALL-E (WAAAaalll-EEEeee)

Probably the best Pixar film I've seen- A great movie, and it went by fast. Too fast. :cry_sad: Maybe it was because I missed all the long previews...

In anticipation, the 89 Batman. I like it, even though its horribly hoaky. Jack Nicholson was excellent.

Can't disagree with you at all. I was gripped from the opening. Had goosebumps a number of times from Ledger's performance, the guy was evil personified. Just when you wondered what he was planning next, he had something even bigger. And I loved the conclusion, totally unexpected and certainly will make for a different start for a third movie

I also agree completely. Saw it right after work today, now I want to see it again. Makes me want to see someone make a tumbler with the cycle inside!

Thanks guys, I agree it was awesome of course, I'm seeing it again on Wednesday with another friend.

Went to see The Dark Knight yesterday and I must say it was absolutely brilliant. When looking forward to an upcoming movie I try not to get my hopes up too high, but with all the good buzz and trailer footage, I couldn't help but to go in with high expectations. The Dark Knight did not match those high expectations, it far exceeded them. I really can't think of a single criticism for this film. The Batman movie franchise is in good hands with Christopher Nolan. Now I have to go see it again to assimulate all that was happening on the big screen.

I'll also add that Maggie Gyllaenhaal was a much better choice for Rachel Dawes than Katie Holmes. I wish she had also done the role in Batman Begins.

I went to saw The Dark Knight yesterday and when I went out the cinema I told me "This is the best movie about a superhero" :cry_happy::oh::oh3::laugh: . I need to say this excced my expectations by far and the role of Heath Ledger as the Joker is simply brilliant :cry_happy: to me the best character in the movie. Harvey Dent and Batman are great too so definitely one of the best movies of the year :sweet: .

You took all the worlds right out of my mouth.

The last film I saw was Knocked Up at my girlfriend's house, this morning - it's meant to be a comedy but apart from two or three little funny bits I found it boring and too profane.

The film I saw before that was Troll 2 at my girlfriend's house, last night - it's meant to be a horror but it's simply hilarious for many reasons (bad scriptwriting and bad acting mainly), probably the funniest film I've ever seen. And, it's not even about trolls, it's about goblins!:thumbup:

I am eagerly anticipating The Dark Knight, I'm going to see it when it comes out in England on Thursday. :sweet:
