YG-49 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 There's a movie of those?? Well, no but I got the DVD with episodes and it went for about movie length, but I can't remember the last movie I watched and I thought it was a good enough excuse My latest movie now is National Lampoons Vacation (best movie ever ) Quote
Hewman Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Aliens v Monsters - 3D. After absolutely loving Bolt 3D this was a big disappointment, although some of the 3D effects were spectacular, the story line was rather weak, and definitely not written well enough to keep an adult engaged. Quote
Tyrant Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I saw a couple of movies this weekend. State of Play. I didn't 100% guess the end before it happened, but I was pretty close by less than a third of the way into the movie. For a movie like this, an ad campaign that makes claims of a twist you won't see coming don't help. Just think of what the movie wants to make you think is going on and what can't possibly be true. That last part is what is inevitably true when you have that kind of ad campaign. That aside, it was well acted and mostly well written. Only one or two things don't ad up going by just what you see. Or rather, they leave questions that make you guess the answers (not always a bad thing). Kind of insightful about modern "journalism" and aspects of the mercenary business. Nothing really groundbreaking but overall a good movie. The other movie I watched was Crank 2. If you liked the first one, you will probably like this one. I would go so far as to say it is even more extreme. THe nudity factor has been turned up to 11 in this one. That was kind of out nowhere. The movie is basically nudity and violence with a paper thin plot thrown in for good measure. Questionable medical science fills this sequel. I am pretty sure anyone could have played David Carradine's role, all 2 minutes of it. If you're looking for mindless, R rated entertainment this is your movie. If your looking for something that has any real depth, avoid this. Quote
SWMAN Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I just watched Troy, which was really quite good. I watched Twilight on Friday, which sucked big time. Quote
AwesomeStar Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I've just watched Star Wars VI, as I've revisited the OT, which was nice, because they came in a pack, and each film contained a Digitally Remastered Disc, and an Original Theatrical Disc, but I only watched the oringinal disc, because the little blurs and jumps always adds to the nostalgia. ~A.S. Lt. Col. Thok Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Saw State of Play. Great movie; Russell Crowe is a fantastic actor. Quote
iamded Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Final Fantasy: Advent Children. Wow. Just, wow. The detail, I can't imagine how much effort it took to make. I've never played the games myself but I feel the movie explained everything you need to know, it had it's own story and wrapped it up in the end, so you needn't have to have already played the games. ~Peace Quote
YG-49 Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 The Truman Show. It was really funny! Good Afternoon, Good Evening & Good Night *The one that didn't say "Goodbye..."* Quote
Sir Wellington Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Obsessed It was a good movie, nice cast, good scenes and drama. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Saw X-Men Origins on the big screen; I'd have to say that, although it was a fun movie, with lots of twists and action...parts of it seemed a little dry. But, for an action film, it was excellent. 6 Days till the Star Trek movie!! Quote
Etzel Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Today I found this amazing fan-made film on the internet: The Hunt For Gollum I'm a huge Tolkien fan and loved the official films and this one is great. Take a look for yourself, it's about 40 minutes long and it's free! Quote
-JD- Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Just saw X-Men origins. I liked the movie, but I think it could have been done better. I cannot wait till ST comes out! Apart from ST, there are five other movies coming out this summer I want to see. Quote
CF Mitch Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Last Tuesday I watched X-men Origins: Wolverine. I have been waiting for that movie for ages. Altough there wasn't as much action as I expected, it was still one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. It had a lot of story and nice plots and plot-twists which kept the story really exciting. Like (at least) a few others I am now waiting for Star Trek. I don't know if you can call me a Trekkie (never really watched the Original Series, I díd however watch the Kirk-movies and my favorite is the Next Generation series) but this movie is gonna be so awesome !!! Greetings, CF W Quote
Echo Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Watched Kingdom of the Crystal Skull last night. It's entertaining, but nothing more. It's disposable entertainment at it's finest. Quote
Tyrant Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I saw Wolverine over the weekend. It was better than I expected, but I had no real expectations. Wolverine has never really been close to my favorite XMen character (much less Marvel overall), but that is mainly because of how played out and poorly handled he is most of the time. His movie version has actually been somewhat refreshing and closer to an actual character and not just a walking, indestructible chainsaw with a fuzzy backstory. I don't like that the 3 other XMen movies may as well have been titled Wolverine. Here however, given that that is the title, him being the central focus isn't an issue. I liked the attempt to incorporate bits of the Origins back story into the movie. I wish Marvel would have actually produced this so it could tie in with their other properties. There are two moments in particular where it would have been nice. The first is D-Day. Unless my Marvel history is off, Captain America should have been there. The other was during the African mission. They never name the metal (which should have been Vibranium given the circumstances) and the place they found it should have been Wakanda (also not mentioned). I guess I just got used to the level of connection between Hulk and Iron Man. Oh well. The movie was good dispite that. The change to Deadpool was ... interesting. Kind of a shame since Reynolds was perfect for the role. Sabertooth was a huge improvement over the first movie. Overall a nice action movie that didn't have any huge plot problems lining up with the other three XMen movies that I noticed. Just the usual movie screwing up characters complaints. From an adaptation standpoint, this one is still screwing up the characters ages relative to each other and putting real characters in random background roles (Emma Frost, really?) that shouldn't be anywhere near there. Also, stay until after the credits. The very end of the credits, that scene a minute or so in isn't the last scene. Here's hoping for Star Trek. Quote
Tyrant Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Well I just got back from watching the new Star Trek movie. I thought it was fairly entertaining. Avoid it if you don't like time travel. Otherwise it was an interesting "what if?" kind of look at the earliest days of Kirk and Co. Plenty of room for sequels that won't be tied down to tons of continuity. I wasn't a huge fan of Eric Bana's character. He just seemed poorly written. Or maybe I just expected a better character out of him because I think he is a decent enough actor. The cast did a decent job in their portrayals. Karl Urban was the best as Bones. Some spoilers for those interested. It's all here, so you have been warned. Pike doesn't end up in a box on wheels with a light as his only communication, though he is in a wheel chair by the end. There was a random red shirt death. Along with new Syler Spock we also get old Nemoy Spock (and lots more of him than I thought it would be). The time changes are not fixed, so this is a new timeline entirely now. The planet Vulcan gets obliterated. The villain is a Romulan from the future who blames Spock for Romulus being wiped out by a huge supernova. This spock is in love with Uhura (sp?) and shows it more than once. Spock's mom dies. Kirk's dad dies. The engine room looks like a modern industrial plant. The Vulcan race is utterly decimated. Ratshot Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Barrier 13. The best G unit movie I have ever seen Quote
Lepaka Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I saw Star Trek last night. Amazing movie, easily the best one so far. Quote
JimBee Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Layer Cake - a good British gangster film. I have yet to see that. It sounds good. Saw X-Men Origins on the big screen; I'd have to say that, although it was a fun movie, with lots of twists and action...parts of it seemed a little dry. But, for an action film, it was excellent.6 Days till the Star Trek movie!! I saw that a while ago, too. It had a nice story and action, and it was great to see two Lost actors (Donovan Monaghan, AKA Charlie, and Kevin Durand, AKA Martin Keamy). I really liked Gambit as a character, and this film was so much better without magnet-head. I'd see it again. The Spirit: One of the worst movies I've seen in a while. The slap-stick humor was terrible, and the rest of the movie was either stupid or depressing. Even Samuel L. Jackson wasn't able to save this from total disaster. At least the photography/ cinematography was interesting. Taken: Very good, had a Bond vibe to it. The story was a little unrealistic ( yeah, the first thing I do when looking for my kidnapped daughter is to look in the mirror for a strand of her hair ). The action was great, and yet another Lost actress gets a role (Maggie Grace, or Shannon). Quote
Natman8000 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I was forced to suffer through Night at the Museum 2: Battle at the Smithsonian. Such a bad and uninspired movie, not even funny. I only laughed once where the miniromans had a battle like the one in 300. And Ben Stiller sucks. Quote
ADHO15 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I've just finished watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've seen them all several times before, but just felt like re-watching them. Lord of the Rings, as I'm sure many will agree, is one of the best sets of films released. The story is great, the effects are spectacular and the battles are superb! For anybody who has been living under a rock for the past 10 years and has never heard of Lord of the Rings, it's a story about a Hobbit called Frodo who has to return the Ring of Power to Mount Doom where it can be destroyed. Of course, he and his friends meet many obstacles along the way! For anyone who hasn't seen them, I'd strongly recommend watching them. I've not read the books, but I have read The Hobbit, from which the Lord of the Rings follows on. I'd give the films 5/5! Quote
Lepaka Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I saw Wolverine. It was pretty good, but I noticed that Wolverine had three different names (Jimmy, Logan, Wolverine... explain please?) and he did the dramatic "NOOO!" scream a lot. Otherwise, good movie. Quote
