Just watched a premier screening of Wolfman, and apparently I'm one of the first in the world to see it!

I really enjoyed the highly old school feel with the dialogue and shadows and fog, but the finale was considerably weaker than the rest. Still, very enjoyable, a much better popcorn movie than more expensive efforts.

Congrats! I've only seen a few ads about it, but it looks interesting.

Still haven't seen James Cameron's Avatar - if it's still screening I'll see it this weekend. See if it lives up to the massive, massive (MASSIVE) amounts of hype and attention it's received here. :sweet:

As for the latest movie I saw, well I believe it was Zombieland. I love that movie, I've seen it 3 times and there's bound to be more. It's a movie perfectly catered to my tastes.

I'm sure I've mentioned it already, but I saw Inglourious Basterds again too. I've seen it so many times, and I still love it. My favourite characters have got to be Sergeants Donny Donowitz and Hugo Stiglitz (in terms of entertainment), but Hans Landa in terms of character and acting.

Thanks!

Just don't believe the hype and you'll be okay.

I haven't been able to find Zombieland anywhere! :cry_sad:

I recently watched Once Upon a Time in the West by Sergio Leone at least five times. It's now my favourite film of all time and a wonderful masterpiece, I would suggest it to everybody!

Also watched another classic; Alien. Love it so much, it certainly hasn't dated much at all for a 1979 film.

I actually watched that one recently. It's okay, has some funny bits in it, but nothing special.

Let's see, what else... Surrogates, Star Trek, and The Invention of Lying for the second time, and Public Enemies. The first two, while not having the most complex or original plot, are very enjoyable Sci-Fi flicks. Invention is a very nice little comedy with some pretty hilarious bits (if it's your type of humor). I can recommend it, but be prepared for a lot of mockery of Christianity. The latter, Public Enemies, is one to go on the "Can't Unsee" list. It's just a bunch of gangsters

unsuccessfully

trying to run from the law, and basically 140 minutes of either monotone gunfire or boring talking. :sceptic: The fact that the audio in this movie is so bad that you can barely understand what anyone is saying (lots of background noise etc.) doesn't help.

Just saw Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

It was a pretty good movie in my opinion, but if you expect it to be the exact same thing as the book then you'll hate it.

The only characters that I really enjoyed were Chiron, Hades, and Grover. Luke would be up there if they explained more of his back story. Speaking of which:

They never had any hint of him and Annabeth's brother-sister relationship, or Thalia. He never had the scar in the movie up until him and Percy's battle on the roof. Percy gave him it.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10. It was missing a lot of key characters.

Ares and Clarisse? I can understand Clarisse-but Ares had such a key role!

Orion Out :skull:

I saw it today as well, and I will say that it was pretty awesome. It certainly lived up to my expectations, being very dark and gory. That kind of style [in movies] really fits me well. The story was well-written in most parts (agreed that the ending could have been better), but what I liked most was the characters. First off, Hugo Weaving did a spectacular job at playing his part (as always). He's definitely my favorite actor of all time. Then, Lawrence and his father were both great characters who's backgrounds were emphasized on by the writers.

Just a tip for anyone planning to see it- it's extremely gory, so don't go if you're easily scared by blood and guts. There was one person in particular that brought her two little kids, and was pouting constantly... :hmpf_bad:

I'll have to see the original version from the 40s.

I actually enjoyed it. While I agree that the ending was disappointing, the movie is following what really did happen historically. The fight/ case scenes were pretty good, but I especially liked the rivalry between the main detective (Christian Bale) and John Dillinger (Johnny Depp). It was something that really added to the excitement.

The only thing I really didn't like about it was Bale. His acting wasn't so bad in this one, but the accent was terrible. I could see (hear) right through it.

I also saw Surrogates. I'll just say that this was the first time I've seen a Bruce Willis film (besides Ocean's 12, but that doesn't count), and I wasn't disappointed by that. The story had so much potential, but it just wasn't pulled off. I hope someday this idea will be revisited, because it has a lot of potential, IMO.

I was just gonna say the opposite thing. I mean, I can understand that one doesn't like Fith Element if it's not your type of humor, but Armaggedon is a very fun movie IMO; cheesy in a good way, with some pretty good effects for its time. Anyone agree?

Btw, it's not very nice how you "fix" other peoples' comments, Batbrick. It's as if you're censoring their opinion. :sceptic: I think it would be better if you would say something like "I disagree with that".

Oh I like Armageddon. It's an entertaining movie. I meant I understood not labeling a classic of the scifi genre. Though it probably is close to one in the action genre. That and a lot of people write it off as a very dumb movie, so I could understand not calling it anything positive to keep up appearances. I had just never really heard many complaints about Fifth Element and I thought it was a decent movie. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece but I would put it on the better end of the sci fi spectrum.

That aside, I watched The Lightning Thief today. I walked in as they were entering the museum so I might have missed the first few minutes. I didn't feel like I missed anything so if I did it must not have mattered much. I thought it was an entertaining movie. I'm not well versed in Greek Mythology but most of the bits I know seemed right. Although one part was right out of Clash of the Titans (which for all I know copied it from mythology) so much so that I fully expected

them to have to fight the Kraken and use Medusa's head which they kept after they killed her

. The only major change I noted (again, based on my limited knowledge of the topic) had to do with the Hydra.

Instead of burning the stumps of the necks after cutting off the heads they use Medusa's head after the number of heads on the Hydra doubles

There were a couple of things that kind of stood out as odd (especially in a PG movie). Unless I misunderstood, the kid was supposed to be in high school. And again, I walked in late so maybe I missed that his class wasn't a high school class. So at one point they have to go to Las Vegas. On the way the discussion drifts towards gambling. To my knowledge, you have to be 21 to gamble in a casino in Vegas. The underworld was interesting and very Hell-like. Hades was kind of odd. There was also more than one innuendo about the gods favorite extra carricular activity. In case anyone doesn't know what that is, let me just say there are a lot of demi gods for a reason. It didn't detract from the movie in any way and I'm not complaining about it. It just seemed a little odd in what I thought was more or less a kids movie.

Overall I liked it and I will probably watch the sequels.

One of my all time favorite movies!

Nope, although I plan to. I haven't even seen all of Pulp Fiction, just clips.

From the clips that I've seen, Fifth Element seems pretty stupid (in nicer words, not my sense of humor). I;m not familiar with Armageddon, though, so I might see it soon.

I don't actually have anything against the Fifth Element, it's just a very flat film for me, like Revenge of the Fallen but without all the horridness, it just feels empty to me. I do like the sense of humour ironically. I hate Armeggedon because it epitomises all that's wrong with Micheal Bay's and by extension much of Hollywood's brand of blockbuster films. Its funny and exciting but because it takes itself very seriously at points it can't just be a fun film like Shoot 'Em Up where the whole joke is that nothing makes sense, instead I feel like screaming every three seconds that nothing makes sense.

Fixed  Don't worry JimButcher, you know I love you right?

But seriously, last films I watched were Alien, which is oneo f my favourites, holds up better than Star wars in my opinion, To Kill a Mockingbird, one of my favourites that I watched with my mum, she was devastated at what happened to Robinson, I tihnk it's my favourite example of how a theme doesn't have to be subtle, just well done.

I watch "UP" on DVD today it was OK for what it was a children's fantasy story.

Funnily enough, that's my most recent viewing as well. I would totally disagree with you on your judgement of it, though. It's a great piece of magical realism, with wonderful animation and a clever script. There's also a wonderful symbolic interplay between squares and circles, if you care to look for it. They managed to tell the best love story on film of 2009 in the first ten minutes, using no words. It's an all around outstanding film.

Of course! Why else do you think I agree with you on every single Bond film?

Speaking of which, I got through most of the Bond films in a row (I've seen all at least once), From Connery to Dalton. So here's a quick summary of what I think.

First, there will never be anyone as good as Sean Connery as far as Bond goes. He was the first and best, and all of his films have that classic Bond vibe to them- the cars, witty comments, and gadgets, as well as the plots, are all trailblazers for the future movies.

George Lazenby wasn't really as good as a Bond, but his only movie, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, was one of the best, IMO. It's the only one where Bond was married, which contributes to the personality of Bond as a whole character. The ending was amazing, too.

Roger Moore I could say was a good Bond, and I'm glad for all of the things that stayed similar to the first films (as said above with Connery). My favorites out of the bunch being Live and Let Die and The Man With the Golden Gun, I think these two had the most original plots (out of the seven Moore films). The former because it takes place primarily in America (which is a nice change of pace), and the latter because of Christopher Lee and the awesome assembly gun and shoots-out... just amazing.

Finally, out of the two Dalton films, only License to Kill was good (which is my favorite Bond film). However, The Living Daylights was pretty boring, having that annoying actor Joe Don Baker, who's also in two other Bond films.

So yeah, Bond films... good movies. I look forward to completing the series, all in order.

Ok, we have different opinions.
It's a great piece of magical realism, with wonderful animation and a clever script.
Or, a fantasy story, no need to be super fancy about it.
There's also a wonderful symbolic interplay between squares and circles, if you care to look for it.
I am going to repeat Batbrick what?

Yea, that surprise me it was like watch a second film before the main feature.
It's an all around outstanding film.
I do not think outstanding is the best word to describe the film. But, it was entertaining, and I am not in the target range for the film.

This has to be my favourite quote of the day, kudos sir. Indeed, it'd be like saying "live action cartoon genre".

Thankyou, I'm glad I wasn't the only one smelling pretentiousness.
