I don't actually have anything against the Fifth Element, it's just a very flat film for me, like Revenge of the Fallen but without all the horridness, it just feels empty to me. I do like the sense of humour ironically. I hate Armeggedon because it epitomises all that's wrong with Micheal Bay's and by extension much of Hollywood's brand of blockbuster films. Its funny and exciting but because it takes itself very seriously at points it can't just be a fun film like Shoot 'Em Up where the whole joke is that nothing makes sense, instead I feel like screaming every three seconds that nothing makes sense.

I see.

So... Shoot 'em Up is a good one? I wanted to see that one for a while now...

Fixed  Don't worry JimButcher, you know I love you right?

What about me? :cry_sad:

Wait...what?

You know, the whole thing about the main character being designed rather square whereas the secondary characters (his wife and the kid) are very round, "smoothing his edges" so to say, and completing him in more than one way. :classic:

While not PIXAR's best or my personal favorite, UP is a very good movie, though I disagree that it's for kids only. The whole story about an old man trying to fulfill his and his dead wife's lifelong dream is actually a very coming-of-age type of story which kids probably wont even really understand. As a whole, the movie is made to appeal to pretty much anyone though, just like all PIXAR movies, having all elements that make up a good family movie (action/adventure, comedy, drama, cute animals, etc.). I'd say two thumbs UP. (Yeah, bad pun, I know.)

Last movie I watched was Death Race. Friggin love that movie. It's not a particularly good one, but it's very enjoyable to me somehow, mainly because it stars my favorite car, plus the story aint half bad.

It's the awesomest dumb shooting movie ever, it has a gunfight during a sex scene, a gunfight while falling off a building, a gunfight during childbirth etc

Our relationship is far too saucy to share on a site like this, what would the children think?

Ah, interesting theory, probably true. Though the edges thing I'll remain skeptical on. I thought whoever made the claim was talking subliminal messaging.

I' currently watching Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Very fun so far and Owlman is one of my favourite characters ever, but it looks like it might be heading to another "Batman saves the day!" endings where you can just see the biased fanboyism in the writing.

Well, this is actually a site intended for adults... but fine, let's leave it at that.

It IS true. I read it in CGW magazine. Here's the article, in case you're interested in reading it.

Ah, I wanted to see that one soon too. Yes, that type of ending has been getting old lately, especially since the release of TDK. Batman/Superman: Public Enemies suffered from the same problem. I don't care how badass Batman is, there is no way he could have survived

a collision with a freakin asteroid in a homemade mech.

I saw toy story 1 and 2 in 3D yesterday. The 3D didnt really add much to the movies but it was just great seeing them in the cinema again and the big screen. Im so pumped for toy story 3 now! :cry_happy:

Planet Hulk. It was slightly better than I expected, even though it was kinda weird how calm and collected Hulk was most of the time, how he spoke full sentences, and never turned into Bruce Banner. The story was kinda predictable, but it was still interesting to watch.

But if you want to see a really cool Hulk cartoon, watch Hulk VS. Thor/Wolverine. That one is badass!

I caught it and it was okay. The comic was well received, but I never read it, so it was fun to get a film of it instead. I think it would have been better in the comic though, better pacing and better art.

But, it had Beta Ray Bill in it, which makes it worth watching. Yes, he is as cool as the cover of his first appearance.

Yeah, he was pretty cool... Until the Hulk totally pwned him.

Re Planet Hulk-I'm 99% certain I saw Adam Warlock in the crowd and about 75% certain I saw Star-Lord there as well.

I thought it was decent overall. I never read the storyline it was based on so I have no idea how accurate it is. I'm curious to see if they make a follow up that has what happened after, namely the Hulk invading the earth with his army of warrior folk.

I saw a few movies at home and at the theater over the last few days.

Theater

Shutter Island This was a definate departure from what Scorsese usually makes. It did seem a little drawn out at times. The music seemed to embrace the tradition of building tension by using a single note from a piano every now and then. That annoyed me a little by the end. There is a twist. I had discounted it early on and had an alternate theory. Being honest, I kind of wish my idea would have been the way they went. This movie is not scary in case anyone had that impression from the previews. It was well acted and well written. I enoyed it but I won't call it great (though it's hard for me to elaborate on what I disliked about it).

The Wolfman Well, it's more gruesome than I thought it would be. I'll give it that. I also had no idea Hugo Weaving was in it until he walked on screen. I guess that shows how much I payed attention to this movie's previews/hype before I saw it. There weren't really any terrible performances. The end definately dragged on. Watching everyone very, very slowly make their way across England to have their big throw down in the country side could've been cut down or simply cut. I guess I was hoping for more, though I honestly don't know what I expected. It wasn't awful or anything, but I thought there was room for improvement.

DVD

The Hurt Locker This was an all around good movie. I dont really have anything negative to say about it. If anyone out there has any interest in bomb disposal, this will either convince to go into it or convince you that you seemingly need to have a death wish to do it.

Cabin Fever 2 This is the even more gruesome sequel to the already bloody Cabin Fever. If you saw the original you know that there room for a sequel with the spread of the supremely deadly flesh eating virus. Well, it spreads. Folks die. A lot more than last time. There are some definite over the top moments in this movie on the gross out front. If you liked the original, you'll probably like this one. This is a horror movie so this isn't really a spoiler, but if you like these I'm sure there will be a part 3.

Black Dynamite This movie is hilarious. It is a spoof of movies like Shaft and Dolemite with a dash of 70s Kung Fu movies. It is very over the top in just about every way. The violence is over the top. The kung fu is over the top. Even the sex is over the top (in a hilarious manner). Micheal Jai White overacts about half the scenes he is in and it's great. I was laughing most of the way through this movie.

Not scary? How is that possible? I thought that was supposed to be the whole premise of the movie, a horror/ thriller film.

I disagree. As far as informing and showing people how the war is/ was, I thought it was pretty good. Then again, there's no way for me to know how accurate it was, but anyway... I just didn't find it compelling at all. It just felt like a bunch of action scenes thrown together and mixed in with a lackluster story. In fact, I failed to see what the point of the two sub-plots (the bomb expert's relationship with his wife back home and the missions of the three man team) was supposed to be in the movie. The former wasn't really focused on until the last fifteen minutes or so, and the latter, like I said, was just a bunch of action scenes.

An okay movie, but definitely not worth seeing again, IMO.

I disagree with your disagreement.

I found the movie very interestig and rather suspenseful, for a war movie. In movies like that, you never know who's gonna die.

It was basically obvious that Thompson was gonna die when you saw the guy at the shop with the phone in the beginning.

But other than that, I really didn't expect any of the other deaths in the film.

And all over, it was worth the watch. I still haven't finished it completely, but I will tonight. :sweet:

The last movie I watched was Shaun of the Dead. Hilarious action/comedy flick. I reccomend giving it a shot if you like zombies and comedy.

That is what the previews lead you to believe. However, it is not a horror movie. Thriller is probably the best description. There are horrific elements, but it is not a horror movie.

I saw Shutter Island most recently. Yes, as was said, it is not scary, nor supposed to be. Some parts are just a bit chilling, or you think it might be scary and it turns out not to be. Some middle sections certainly dragged on, but the movie provoked some thought. Could've been shorter, but it was beautifully shot and acted.

I watched Forrest Gump again last night. I think it's safe to say that that movie falls under the "gets even better the more times you watch it" category. I also watched Oh Brother Where art thou last friday. Again, an excellent movie.

I reviewed Shoot em up back in 2008

Shoot-em-up!

I thought it was awesome. The moment I saw him kill a guy with a carrot, I knew I would love this movie. 8/10

You'll love it Oky.

Hehe, alright, I'll watch it soon.

Yesterday I watched Flawless. A nice heist flick. Nothing too special, but nice, with some good acting.

Today I watched Justice League: Crisis on two Earths. This was actually pretty cool! I quite liked it. All of the heroes got their spotlight and the fights were very good. Interesting story too, even though there weren't really any unexpected twists. Definitely one of the best Superhero cartoons out there.

On Sunday I took my dad to the IMAX (late b'day present  ) and saw Avatar. Top notch film! The 3D effects made it even more vivid, and it seemed very realistic. Suprisingly, I found it quite emotional too!

My only gripe is the General/Commander guy's character. Too predictable, and reminded me of the one from Small Soldiers. :sadnew:

Once Upon a Time in America.

Truly a masterpiece of cinema, and I don't usually throw around annoyingly pretentious quotes like that often

The film has Robert De Niro and James Woods as childhood friends who grow up to become fellow gangsters as situations begin to go awry. One of the best films I've ever seen and a few great twists in it.

A few warnings though, it is very ambiguous in many ways, this is a film that asks you to fill in the gaps and decided what happened at the end depending on cynical, idealistic etc you are. It is also the longest film I've watched a 3 hours and 40 minutes, but well worth every moment. It also has quite a few scenes that don't pull any punches.

Also watched The Great Escape which is another brilliant film.

Glad you enjoyed the film Oky, but given that Owlman was proven right about the whole "Only one choice in an otherwise pointless existence" can we both agree he was actually the hero of the film?

That choice was to destroy an infinity of planets, and he wanted to do it. How does that make him a hero? Anyway, I agree, owlman was better than Bats in this one. I liked this philosophical version of him much better than the silly thug-like version from BTBTB. Speaking of BTBTB, it was cool how Bats called in some of the heroes from that show. It was almost like a reference to that show, and it felt good to know all their backstories.

And, of course, it was awesome to see the Flash make a Star Wars reference.

By the way, what exactly did Bats mean when he said "We both stared into the abyss, but when it looked back, you blinked"? :look:

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

"Down with the Bloodybighead!"

Excellent. And I got to see it in 3D! The Caterpillar was well played, The March Hare was hilarious, and the Red Queen was her usual beheading self.

I loved the story. At one point it even had a flashback to Alice's first adventure! :cry_happy: It's very dark though, here's some of the darker bits:

The Hatter had bullets strung across his chest!

To get into the (Red) Queen's castle, Alice (small) had to get over a moat, and the only way to was stepping on severed heads!

Alice, beheading the Jabberwocky.

I watch "Race to Witch Mountain" last night. It seemed a little to much was going on in it. And I think the "bounty hunter" was unnecessary bit-player part, terminator-like thing. And I will not even mention the thugs harassing Dwayne Johnson's character.

Yeah I agree that film was a little...weird.

I finally watched No Country For Old Men. I can't say I was disappointed, but I just didn't like the ending that much. I know, it gives you some ideas around violence... But I mainly watch films to relax. Action flicks to turn my brain off for a couple of hours, but in deep films I get really caught up in it and I wasn't "rewarded" in the end. It reminded me of the ending of the Sopranos. I don't hate those kind of endings, I'm just not a big fan of those. Let's say I don't like to watch too many such endings around the same time.

Other than that, No Country For Old Men was filmed greatly with some very good actors. I liked it very much, although most of my friends who also watched it switched away or found it a bit on the boring side. It's just the ending that got a bit in the way... I expected a big ending, it was built up like that.

Anyway, now I'll have to make list of big films I haven't seen yet from the last couple of years and start to watch them. :classic:

I watched "Die Welle" ("The Wave") yesterday... it's a German remake of the older "The wave". The film tells the story of a teacher who starts a movement at school, the movement soon spinns out of control and becomes kinda fascist... The teacher, however, succeeds in stopping the movement and thus shows how easy it is to establish a dictatorship in a modern society... It was pretty facinating, even though the German film doesn't stick as close to the real event as the American version of the past. and the teacher is pretty good...
