Watched 2012 for the first time yesterday. Decent film, but some parts were hard to take seriously. :sadnew: Nice visual effects, but probably not worth the gazillion dollars they spent making the film. I'd say 6.5/10 or 7/10.

I watched Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs. It was funny, especially the monkey.

GUMMY BEARS!!!

I thought they kind of overdid the whole "Nerds are Cool" message, but otherwise it was a great film! :classic:

I don't think it had a "Nerds Are Cool" message, but more of a "you can do anything if you set your mind to it" message

Well, I finally watched Shoot Em Up, and it was indeed very enjoyable! It was badass in a somewhat believable manner while being hilariously ridiculous at the same time. I liked the hero's creative ways of mowing down his enemies. The villain was a good one too. Very unique little movie. And something tells me that little Oliver is going to be just like his daddy.

Also:

Saw VI - Pretty good. I like the Saw series for its nicely thought out plots. This one was a decent installment. It's good, but not too special. If you like Saw, you should enjoy this.

2012 - Well, to be fair, the cinematography and visual effects were good, but all the over-the-top visuals and some of the facts just made it very hard to take seriously. I agree with pretty much everything Batbrick has said about this movie. I can imagine that the movie seemed like a really good idea during production, but seeing the final result makes it seem poorly executed. But then again, how did they ever expect an RV outrunning the eruption of a super volcano to be believable? :sceptic:

On Sunday I took my dad to the IMAX (late b'day present  ) and saw Avatar. Top notch film! The 3D effects made it even more vivid, and it seemed very realistic. Suprisingly, I found it quite emotional too!

My only gripe is the General/Commander guy's character. Too predictable, and reminded me of the one from Small Soldiers. :sadnew:

I watched it today. It was awesome! The effects were great, but the corporate head was a bit too female dog-like

I also watched it a few days ago. Yes, it was over the top, and yes it was so awesome and enjoyable. Sometimes I can really enjoy a good action film, but then is has to be with actors and like and it has to have new things in it. Clive Owen is an actor I really enjoy watching and there were a bunch of new ways to get rid of the villains. I laughed every time Smith did something ridiculous. It was a bit like Crank, but better with the things that happened it the film. A must see if you like to switch of your brain every once in a while and enjoy a good action film!

I watched clutch powers it was suprisingly good!

There were a few shout outs to AFOL's :classic:

One thing I didn't like was the anoying characters

And they were too long in the medevil throwback thingy :hmpf_bad:

I think there will probably be a sequal

Watched District 9 last night. Brilliant film! I love how Wikus changed over the course of the film, very well done. :sweet:

Look for a film called Children of Men (Directed by the same guy who directed Harry Potter 3). Its filmed in a similar style to D9

And of course, with Clive Owen. I haven't seen District 9, I hope to see it soon, but Children of Men is a must see anyway. I think it's because of this film the third Harry Potter film is my favorite, because it's the same awesome director. Children of Men is a great film with great filming techniques and a touching story.

A movie on TV called "The Brainiacs.com". It is about a single dad who spends too much time running the family toy company until his 12 year son (I think that is how old he is) take over the company and teach his dad a lesson. I would say it comes off as a typical "Disney Channel" movie of the 90's, even though I do not think they had any thing to do with it. The biggest names (just to show size of the movie) are "Dom DeLuise" & "Rich Little", plus Little's part was just a bit part. "Kevin Kilner" plays the dad in the movie, some might recognise him from other TV shows (but he is not that big of a celebrity).

Agreed, Children of Men is fantastic and I love how nontraditional the hero in it is.

I watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight in succession recently and they are both fantastic films. I love the differences and similarities between the two, and the villains are played fantastically. I hope the third one can live up to these standards. I think the best performance of both films is Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent.

Star Wars Episode II, its a lot better than the first one but not as good as the Third one :classic:

My favorite part is the huge battle near the end.

I watched The English Patient last Friday and was pleasantly surprised. Even though it is an old movie by now (1996), this is the first time I've seen it. I was bored, it was on TV so I decided to give it a go and I'm so glad I did. It seems most people hate it or love it and I suppose I'm one of those who love it. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much when it first came out but now I'm old enough to enjoy drama more than action (boy, does that make me sound old....)

I also finished Head in the Clouds recently as well. It was another good watch although a sad one as well. Apparently I'm in a WWII era frame of mind these days. I have a hankering to break out Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, U-571 and Pearl Harbor (even though I'm not a big fan of that last one).

Road to Perdition (2002)

Tom Hanks

Jude Law

Daniel Craig

I was thrilled when I saw who the actors are, but I was disappointed at the end a little bit.

It has its good moments, but I wouldn't watch it again.

It looks like I am the one of the very few that think this movie is not so good.

I was in a cheesy-animated-alien-movie mood lately. :alien:

Planet 51 - cute, average, little movie. The plot is basic and unoriginal. The animation is pretty mediocre, and it draws most of its humor from movie references and slapstick. :sceptic: Seriously, it's one reference after the other, to the point that it gets annoying. If you're into that kinda thing though, you might enjoy it. Kids certainly will, even if they don't get the references. I liked the Rover.

Monsters VS. Aliens - Slightly better, but not by much. But then again, what can you expect from a movie with such a title? The animation was finer, it seemed to have a bit more heart, and was overall more enjoyable. However, most of the good jokes were given away in the trailers. And it was too obvious that this film was made for 3D, what with all the objects that come extremely close to the camera and all. It wasn't too bad, but still makes you wish that this whole 3D craze will end soon. Overall, it's nice, but definitely one of Dreamworks' less good movies. I liked Dr. Cockroach, Insectosaurus' transformation near the end, and the cameo of

. Favorite quote: "By Hawkins' chair!"

Gonna watch their new movie, How To Train Your Dragon this weekend! :sweet: It doesn't have aliens, but I guess dragons and Norsemen are close enough.

Well, I saw How to Train Your Dragon now, and man, what a great movie! It's pure viking and dragon awesomeness! :sweet: Made me take out my Vikings sets and wish I had bought more of them. Seriously, it's a really good action adventure for the whole family! It has great animation, great action, great humor, and a nice story. Definitely one of Dreamworks' best works, and I would certainly not mind seeing it again. I did not see it in 3D, so I can't comment on that. I can imagine that it could be interesting in 3D, but certainly not necessary. I can recommend it to anyone, especially fans of the Vikings theme.

Also, I started watching Disney's Fantasia. Last time I saw it, I was like four years old, so most of it was pretty boring to me and my parents had to fast forward to the parts with anthropomorphic animals which told "a definite story", so this is the first time I'm seeing it in its entirety. We watched up until the first intermission. Not sure when we will watch the rest. It's certainly one of Disney's more mature works, and now that I'm studying art, I can appreciate it much better. :classic:

Meh. Didn't like that movie at all. Way too boring and pointless for me. :sceptic: But yeah, the way it was shot wasn't bad actually.

I watched a film called Stormbreaker last night. It was pure cliche torture. :hmpf: Stupid, boring, over the top, everything.

Thankfully it wasn't a total fail thanks to Mickey Rourke. :classic: And Ewan McGregor flying around in a super car.

Never watching that again, thats for sure. God, it was terrible.

I watched a bunch of Kevin Smith films in the last few days. Chasing Amy, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl and Clerks II to be exact. I still need to find the first Clerks and Mallrats.

All in all, those are probably my favorite movies of all time.

If you think its pointless then I'd say you missed the point. And it was brilliantly shot, the "one take" scenes were amazing.

I recently watched My Neighbour Totoro with my Japanese class. I've seen quite a bit of Japanese animation but I believe this is my second Miyazaki film behind Porco Rosso. If you watch this do NOT go in expecting a western-style plot structure, it has no major conflict throughout, it simply chronicles the lives of two Japanese girls living in the rice fields and finding out about a magical creature that lives in the nearby forest. Its a very sweet, very innocent film, but prepare to see some whacked out ****

But seriously I really enjoyed it. Also it had Catbus:

That darn thing looks like it is related to Appa(SP?) from "Avatar: The Last Air Bender".

I love that thing! I think you've spelled it right too.

I really liked this movie, though I haven't seen it in 10 years. You're totally right about the non-traditional structure. I think it's important to remember that the whole of the movie takes place as their sick mother rests, which is why they moved to the country. Everything magical happens over the summer while they're in a new place, while their "real life" situation is quite confusing and over the girls' heads. The movie never explains what happens to them, why there are totoros and the catbus, it just lets them be. It makes this a really special movie. It's genuinely heartwarming.

In Japan, it's still pretty popular. You can still find stuffed totoro toys in all the shopping malls and all the Miyazaki movies are next to the Disney classics at Toys R Us.

Recommended by Batbrick, and me
