I watched Iron Man 2 last night. I've seen it quite a few times because my little brother loves it.

The acting isn't all that great (even though there's some rather famous cast members), and it's very unrealistic. However, the special effects are excellent, and there's some good action scenes. I'd love to see the Iron Man films made into LEGO sets, they'd have a lot of great parts.

The Hulk. As you can probably tell, my brother loves super heroes. I dont get why the Hulk is classed as a super hero, though. He's a giant, angry, green oaf who goes around smashing everything... personally, I don't see how that adds to society  .

Anyway, the film's okay. Nothing too special, but not terrible.

And now I saw Tangled on Friday with the girlfriend. This is the first non-Pixar Disney movie I've seen since... wow... I just checked the animated Disney movie list and the last one I saw was Tarzan back in 1999.

Tangled was pretty good. The girl's hair was kind of grossing me out. She drags it everywhere and she never wears any shoes, to boot. Eew.

I. Love. Tangled. I think it has to be because John Lasseter was executive producer and wanted pixar quality. And boy does it show. When you get a class of 30 high school boys laughing at what is supposed to be a 'girls film' I think you've done a good job.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - very entertaining to watch, though somehow I still prefer the first one. For one, the peacock villain is lame IMO, I'd rather have the badass Tai Lung which was more intimidating and a worthy antagonist. But overall it's a good kiddie animated movie with lots of humor and even touching moments.

I think Kung Fu Panda 2 was ok, too... the peacock didn't bother me, with rapid moves and a lot of projectiles he came off as intimidating enough.

I also just saw "Kick megablocks," and found it very entertaining and disturbing at the same time... which I think was the intended effect.

I saw the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie at a theater yesterday. I read some negative reviews, and the movie has a shocking 32% freshness rating on rottentomatoes.com. I thought it was at least a 70%. It's not going to win an oscar, but I had fun watching it and so did my girlfriend. It was way better than the 3rd movie.

It was also nice to be able to know what all those POTC Lego sets I bought are all about, lol. A couple of the small sets don't match the film hardly at all though. :sadnew:

I recently watched Machete, which was refreshingly gritty. This is one of the few cases that I like the B-movie style of filming, because it really works here. Some of the dialog and acting was [more than] questionable (cough), but other than that, I really enjoyed it. You could also say it had an all-star cast, including Robert De Niro and this guy.

That movie made me laugh! It was so crazy and unrealistic that it was just hilarious! I watched The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian yesterday. I had already seen it, but every once in a while I need to watch something with some medieval fights and fantasy and stuff, but watching one of the (extended versions) of the Lord of the Rings (I will only watch the extended versions now) takes too long. Its a pretty good movie. I mean, the acting is meh, but its a kids movie. Some of the battle scenes are epic.

I saw Pirates of the Carribean a couple of weeks ago. While it wasnt a good film I thought it was alright. Going into it I thought it was going to be pretty crap but it exceeded my expectations and it was a pretty good laugh too.

I also saw the Hangover part II the other week and that is so funny. The plot is pretty much exactyl the same but some how I feel part II is a lot better than the original by far. But be careful, its pretty disgusting.

I watched Black Swan last weekend. I must say, what an odd film  . I found the bits about the injuries in her imagination quite confusing, and the lesbian parts were also quite wierd. However, the acting was good, and I did enjoy watching it.

My sister also made me watch Tangled. Of course, it's not exactly the perfect film for a 20 year old man, but I think she enjoyed it. I'd recommend this to anyone with young daughters, and possibly sons as well (there's some action parts and funny scenes).

Strange, I saw those two movies a few days apart as well. They're kind of polar opposites, now that I think of it.

Probably because they were both released on DVD last week  . But yes, they are opposites. I got Black Swan because some friends were coming over, and my dad rented Tangled for my sister (Friday has become known as "Film and Sweetie Night" to her and my brother, for obvious reasons). Anyway, I hope you enjoyed them both!

I watched True Grit last night. I have never seen the original, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. I really liked it, the story was interesting and the action scenes were good. There was some great performances in it, too.

Just saw POTC: On Stranger Tides.

It was... OK. I don't think we saw enough Penelope Cruz.

I just saw that movie as well, and I was extremely disapointed, the beginning was good, but as soon as the battle scene between Angelica and Jack went down, everything went down hill.

It was awful, the zombified crew was stupid IMO, they didn't really do anything "zombie-ish" they could of just been regular crew members and it wouldn't have made a difference, the mutiny scene was okay, but then Blackbeard, who IMO they got the wrong actor to portray him, he wasn't menacing, at all, I don't see why anyone should fear him. he uses his "magic sword" which they never explain the origin or the power behind, controls the ship and catches all the crew. which for that matter, if you had a sword which controlled the entire ship, why the heck would you need a crew? it's just more mouths to feed! And while all thats going on, theirs some spanish navy racing to the fountain as well, which doesn't really add any context. Another thing that I didn't like was that the characters were so fake, and the story was so obvious, I could honestly predict the whole movie once I found out what was going on, but back to the characters, I have no idea what the point of angelica was, she and jack just looked weird together, then philip and the mermaid was just stupid, like it was thrown in at the last second to replace Elizabeth and Will, and I never really understood where they were going, they didn't change at all. The only good character was Barbossa, he changed during the story, he was funny, and I could see him as a rounded character. Other then that, it would have been okay if it wasn't like 2 and a half hours long. end rant

I have to agree with you, Sok. I found the fourth POTC film to be quite different from the first three, and not in a good way. The acting was stale, even on Depp's part. He just didn't do a great job at portraying the classic Jack Sparrow, and instead the character came off as logical, commonplace, and just completely flat. The plot felt rushed and thrown-together, and was pretty predictable. The additions of Phillip, the mermaid, and Angelica took away from the plot rather than added to it, and took up precious time that could've been used to explain the plot a little more (i.e. Blackbeard's story; there was literally one line that "explained" the zombies).

The filming was also different, and the way the sets and camera angles and such were used, made this film feel much different than the first three. It lacked that vibe of freedom and adventure that the first three gave off.

I didn't even like Barbossa's character. I actually thought that his involvement in the Royal Navy was a joke at first.

It was just very disappointing as a whole.

From what I've heard from others who've seen the movie, people who didn't like the first three liked OST, and vice versa. I have yet to hear of someone (not on EB) who likes both.

Huh... I liked the first three movies (in order from first to last), and I thought this one was OK, just... well... continues the usual trend that each sequel is worse than the last.

I was actually looking forward to no Will/Elizabeth romance, so I guess you guys are right... they had to add something. But it wasn't Jack and Angelica, for whom we seriously see no sparks flying; it was "cleric" and the mermaid... there's no "love" between Jack and Angelica.

So... in order to make the Aqua de Vida work, you need Ponce de Leon's chalices... what did Ponce de Leon use? How did he know ahead of time he needed those chalices... and if they were his chalices, didn't he have to have them made? I mean... what makes them so special? What's their back story? And it's not ancient... the words are in Spanish. So it's like there's this fountain of youth, and one of the requirements is that Ponce de Leon has chalices made?

... and the map shows Florida, obviously, unless POTC is supposed to be some alternate universe; the terrain of Florida is essentially FLAT. COMPLETELY. It's like one giant over-grown sandbar. They sort of downplayed it... you don't even get to see the map, that may be why. In fact, I was a bit disappointed the movie didn't pick up where the last one left off... it was already set up.

It was kind of like watching Indiana Jones, only instead of solving the mystery of Aqua de Vida, they just run around without apparent rhyme or reason and no clues as to the origin or why the ritual... no explanations of how it came about or where any of these people figured out the ritual.

As far as action goes, I guess one of the major disappointments is that there was no epic ship battles.... most of it takes place on land. Nearly all of it, really. No wonder LEGO only put three (right? I don't have it yet); they were never even fired, so why bother?

Still, I think the movie had redeeming qualities, so I stand by my "ok." It was "ok."

I saw X-Men First Class today. It was amazing. As someone who's read X-Men comics for 25 years, this had so much stuff the last movies were missing, even X2, which is considered the best X-Men movie... til now.

Magneto owns this flick. By the end of the movie, you know why Magneto hates humans. The female roles were a little underperformed/underwritten, but the movie is really about Magneto and Professor X, so most of the other male roles are underwritten too. But the movie captures a lot of the wonder and hatred from the comics. When people see their powers, they are amazed and terrified.

I saw the other major comic movie so far this year, Thor, too. X-Men is much better. The film has a lot of weight to it. Thor was pretty breezy.

Tron Legacy. The acting and story is alright, but the special effects are just stunning. The way they made the Clue character's face out of effects is quite amazing, and all the neon lights were beautiful. It was a real pleasure to watch, I'd recommend this to everyone!
