Zeya Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I finished up Midnight Cowboy. Anything with Dustin Hoffman can't be all bad. It's known as the only X-rated film to win an Oscar. But I have to say by today's standards it would be more like an R rated film, and a mild one at that. I guess I'm desensitized by Tarantino or something. The movie did a really good job of using symbolism and other subtle techniques to make you feel what the main character is going through. I also was semi forced to watch Silent Hill. I player the original Playstation game back in the day. The movie wasn't too bad, but still not quite worth recommending. It had its moments. Quote
Ceroknight Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) I just came back from watching Cowboys and Aliens I think it was very good. Two of my favourite actors, Ford and Craig Also the actor of the Indian that rides with the white men came from my hometown, Victoria, BC I didn't like Olivia Wilde's character in it I just didn't like how she dies and come back to life because she is an alien and then dies again :-/ Anyway I would recommend it Also is it just me or did anyone else think Ford looked like he was wearing an old fashioned version of Han Solo's outfit? K-Nut Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 I saw Cowboys and Aliens opening weekend and I liked it. I had really low expectations for it. If Harrison Ford wasn't in it, (He's my favorite actor), I wouldn't have seen it. Yesterday I saw the Help. Wasn't my choice to see it but I loved it. Definitely Best Picture worthy. Quote
simonjedi Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Harry potter and the order of the phoenix. 7/10 Was all right, they missed too much stuff from the book unfortunately (Careers advice and St. Mungos) *Seriously in the film it's pretty much: 'Arthur Weasley have been attacked' 'Alright then!' NEXT SCENE We could have had a Gilderoy Lockhart cameo and Neville's parents. Quote
Artanis I Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Paul. Simon Pegg & Nick Frost. Interesting... some good some bad. I liked the iconic lines from SciFi classics. If you've seen it: particularly the one near the end where it's spoken to the person who said it in the original movie. I don't mind Brahbrah either. (Flight of the Conchords reference) Quote
K-Nut Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Spaceballs. I peronally give it 8/10. The story is very weak but the comedy is awesome! And remember... May the Shwartz be with you! Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) Two words..... RED DOG Saw it tonight at the cinema and it's funny in places and sad, but heartwarming in others. The true story a dog who befriended everyone it met, helped heal their wounds and they returned the love ten fold. You will not have a dry eye in the last six minutes of the film, your heart will break and mend at the same time....especially if you own a dog....more touching than Marley & Me. If this film is released outside of Oz see it. Edited September 24, 2011 by lightningtiger Quote

Scubacarrot Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I saw the movie Broken Arrow earlier today, it was pretty bad. John Travolta should really not be playing villains... Quote

Professor Flitwick Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I recently watched Phone Booth, a thriller taking place entirely on one street. It's quite suspenseful, with good performances by Colin Farrell and Forest Whitaker, though I spent the entire film thinking the caller was Heath Ledger! Quote

I've seen Colin Farrell in some bad/annoying roles, but he was good in this. Another good movie with him is In Bruges. Quote

charlieboy Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 (edited) Ive seen a couple of great films this week, went to see 'Real Steel' last night with my son, was absolutely brilliant! We're both on a mission to build some of the fighting robots from the film now! Also watched 'The Green Lantern' a few days back on Dvd, another awesome film I thought (I have to admit to owning Battlefield Earth on Dvd, I actually like it even though it's a low point of Travolta's career. Im just off to hang my head in shame!) Edited October 25, 2011 by charlieboy Quote

Kiefer Sutherlands character was actually Heath Ledger, or am I just senile? Response to spoiler: I can see how you could be tricked; I think they amped up the bass in his voice to make it sound more menacing. I wasn't sure who it was for a while at first. I never thought it was Heath Ledger though. Quote
simonjedi Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Real Steel 8/10 Pleasantly surprised by this Movie. I was expecting it to be sub Transformer shlock, but it's a pretty charming film about a son and his father. The robot fights are secondary to the whole thing. (There's only like 5 in the whole movie.) The robots themselves feel weighty and have a personality to them (unlike the transformers.) They've managed to completely avoid the more cliche'd and stupid things that would have messed the movie up. (i.e Hugh Jackman having to fight a Robot at the end.) Characters are well acted and believeable. In lesser films they would have tried to build Jackman's character as a 'Oh, he's a bad dad father, but really he's got a heart of gold'. But no. Charlie is presented as a massive prick. It's very difficult to like either of them at the begining (the kid looks freakishly like Jake Lloyd). It's kind of impressive that the director was willing to make the two main characters such dicks. Go see it. Quote
Lothos Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Saw paranormal activity 3. Recently re watched Trainspotting. Good flicks entertaining at least. Quote
Fred Daniel Yam Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Being Chinese, I watch a whole heap of Asian movies. I recently watched Red Cliff and Bodyguards and Assassins. Great films both based on real events in China. Also watched 14 Blades, Ip Man 1&2, Return of the Fist, the Lost Bladesmen and the Butterfly Lovers. If you can understand Chinese, watch them, if you can't, watch them with subtitles because seriously, they're that good. Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Best worst movie What not Batman & Robin.....it's time for a freeze ! My last film I saw.....okay it was with my son.....The Smurf's....okay, so shoot me ! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I just saw the Tintin film and now i am watching 1997s finest film... Prince Valiant! Let all those who bemoan "jellybean knights" watch this film and I'm a moron! Love this film. Quote
Artanis I Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) I just saw the Tintin film I didn't realise it was out already! (At long last) Ninjago... haha. Now I understand what the go is with all the sets and characters, it didn't make much sense before... BTW I was only thinking the other day that a Tintin licenced theme could be pretty cool. But, if the movie is out already, probably too late. Edited November 3, 2011 by Artanis I Quote
Lothos Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Took my wife to see the Three Musketeers, she dug it, I didn't. Movie was a corny action flick that tried to be another pirates of the caribean imo. It's a good way to kill 2 hours in the scheme of things. Quote
