Posted February 24, 201015 yr What is the best set source of minifigs that fit with City and that are wearing casual type clothes (the kind of thing one might wear to an amusement park or when riding the bus around). I know of Bricklink but finding a store with enough civilian figs is hard (and expensive). Star Wars wont help (since the figs there dont fit with City IMO) The only way I can see to get a decent selection of civilian figs is to buy multiple copies of various large expensive sets (like the new airport or the city corner)
February 24, 201015 yr There was a set called Minifigure Collection last year that had 3 male figs, 1 female, and some accesories, but I'm sorry to say that this set is kinda hard to find now
February 24, 201015 yr The minifig collection and even sets like the Advent Calendars usually have a higher proportion of specialised workers rather than civilians in any case. You get what you pay for mostly, and you can't buy lots of figs without buying big sets. 10199 Winter Toy Shop is a good choice for a lot of generic figs with a mix of legs, torsos and faces. The best civilian minifig set was the 8970 Agents Robo Attack which had 3 unique at the time civilian minifigs with great prints, which are starting to spill over into regular sets (like the Airport). If you're happy with the faces and hair you already have, I'd just take the plunge and buy an assortment off BL from the US. For a few minifig torsos (even a lot) shipping is surprisingly inexpensive. House of Logos has a good mix in Town minifigs from 10196 Carousel and 10199 Toy Shop at US$2-4. You could buy a bundle there and still come out OK. Or you could just wait until the Collectors polybags arrive
February 24, 201015 yr Author I dont buy from overseas bricklink stores due to problems I have had in the past with PayPal.
February 24, 201015 yr Just keep browsing BL, you can mix and match parts to turn a themed torso into a great civilian figure, with the right heads, legs and accessories you can have any sort of person you can think of.
February 24, 201015 yr I dont buy from overseas bricklink stores due to problems I have had in the past with PayPal. I recently bought some items from House of Logos & had no problem with them Shipping from America to the UK too 2 weeks from placing the order
February 24, 201015 yr I don't think this is exactly what he is looking for Ciano. I agree that in Lego town we have far too many policemen, firemen, community workers and hospital people around, instead of the regular people. It takes a real effort to get a group of those together..
February 24, 201015 yr The figures in that Agents robot set indeed were pretty good. I think the regular city sets aren't all that bad. The camper van, for instance, has some nice figures. Prateek mentioned the city minifigure collection, which I thought was quite good. I had no idea that it is rare, as I just bought one a few weeks ago from amazon. I also really like the figure that comes with the small car. I've also picked up a lot of really nice figures from events. This year and last year I went to Brighton modelworld (an event for model builders in the UK, where I displayed LEGo with other members of Brickish). The LEGO store also had a stand and they sold minifig bits, including some really nice torsos, faces and hair pieces that are useful for city MOCs. This year they had the Hawaiian shirt and the woman's top from the Agents set, for instance, as well as light blond hairpiece used for "Elsa Schneider" in the Venice canal chase set. You could combine them yourself. A minifig and two utensils cost something like £2.50 per three. I'm not sure how good the selection is at other LEGO stores, but it might be worth checking out if there's one not too far from where you live. Cheers, Ralph
February 24, 201015 yr If you don't mind second-hand or older torso designs, ebay can be really cheap for a mixed lot of random minifigs (and town are usually cheaper than castle or pirates for example). Probably one of the easiest ways to end up with a "random" assortment that is quite large. Then once you have a reserve of minifigs, you can add the occasional more interesting torso by buying a set (e.g. the Camper as people have said, or the €9 bricks box that is out this year) or going on bricklink (but the newer torsos are more expensive). If you are content with for example the torsos of the 80s and 90s, then bricklink or ebay should be pretty cheap.
February 24, 201015 yr Well if you live anywhere near a Lego store, I think they have bins where you can put your own Minifigs together. The change the pieces every couple of month. I think the charge about €2 a piece and you can also choose accessories!
February 24, 201015 yr If you're not buying using PayPal and you live in Australia, and don't use S@H, your choices really are limited We don't have Pick a Brick or Build a Minifig or LEGO stores here at all, so none of those are options. In this case I would thoroughly search Bricklink stores for older Classic Town figs from the 80s onwards. There's a few there that are quite cheap. The 8401 Minifig Collection is not rare; it's just not being restocked as much in stores since the 2010 waves have come in.
February 24, 201015 yr Again, mix and match is makes it much easier than buying complete figures. You can use figure torsos from many themes with solid colour legs and normal faces to make citizens for your city. After all, an aquashark torso with blur legs is just some punky type in jeans and a cool shirt. Don't be afraid of multiples of one figure, if you change their hair colour and maybe their legs you will have a unique citizen. After all, many people wear the same coat or shirt.
