How many tiles of each colour do we have? Can we have a tally?

I assume we have the same as the pattern on the other side; after all someone was able to mirror it.

The thing that's bugging me are the statues. There must be a reason why the centre one is a younger man and is wearing armour, and the two side ones are older men. For the life of me, though, I can't figure it out.

Let's focus on the tiles now.

It was mirrored and replicated to no effect, although admittedly that was before we fiddled with all the statues and suchlikes.

Maybe we should try again now that the grinding of gears and the girding of garters suggested something happened off-screen.

Let's look at these tiles again!

So, to me, the pattern is:

LtBley LtBley

LtBley White

White DkBley

LtBley White

White DkBley

DkBley DkBley

I believe we've tried that same pattern, and a flipped one already. If not, I'd like to try these common variations:

Same:

LtBley LtBley

LtBley White

White DkBley

LtBley White

White DkBley

DkBley DkBley

Mirror:

LtBley LtBley

White LtBley

DkBley White

Flip:

DkBley DkBley

White DkBley

Maybe we should mirror the room; that is the statues as well. Do we have a spare hand?

*Does the statue in the middle have hands?*

*Fred Thomas checks the inside of the compartments and finds nothing useful. However, he find this message etched onto the back of one of the compartment doors:*

:oh: That's some quality carving!

Too easy!

Good work! Leaving modesty behind, I would have solved that puzzle faster as I read Tim Healey's puzzle books as a kid; Krypto strikes back and Mr Enigma's Code Mysteries. That code style was used at least once in those books.

*That's correct. The panels pops open and reveals a compartment containing two stone swords.*

*Your superior brain didn't solve the reverse mirror.*

If you don't mind, I will like to go foward and lift one of the stone swords and examine it closely, and then lift the other stone sword, to see if both of them are identical.

*After looking for danger (such as a scorpion) I grab a sword and investigate it. After investigating I'll keep the sword*

Putting the swords in the statue hand could be a good idea eh?

Oh mysterious voice, I never said I was superior, just that I had seen that cypher before. To solve the other puzzle I needed superior patience...

Yes, that does seem to be where the voice wishes for us to go. I propose we do that if you two are done playing with the swords.

*Sheldon and Siegourney stick the swords into the hands of the center statue.*

*listens carefully for a puzzle solved sound, but doesn't hear it*

Let's try actually crossing the swords now by adjusting the arms and hands holding them. If that doesn't achieve the desired result, maybe we can turn the statue so that it faces straight ahead.

I second that! I'm not convinced he'll turn though. How about the left and right statues?

..pation.

Crossing swords?

*I'd like to put the new swords in the side statues. If that does nothing I'd like to put the silver sword in the center statue.*

Crossing swords?

You might like it...

You do have a point though... maybe the stone swords are for the side statues and the center one uses the silver, though it might take finding another to test the crossing theory for them. I wonder if there is another silver sword, or if we even can solve this puzzle without looking around the other rooms first. It would be odd for all the clues for each room to be in that room instead of spread around the temple.

Ssssssshh  Don't give the voice ideas. :look:

the swords are good! we haven't finished the puzzle yet! We forgot to give the other statues their torches!

Did no one read the de-cyphered hint?

"The statue on the left holds a torch in his left hand

The statue on the right holds a torch in his hand

The center statue holds two swords

The sword are crossed"

*Goes and grabs two torches from the main room and brings them back and sticks them in the appropriate hands*

Oh yeah...

Well, I did ask to do that once, but the voice snarkily reminded me that I haven't got a torch.

<Stretches and yawns>

Oh, did I doze off? What did I miss? Crossing swords, torch-lacking inventories...

Say, look at this part of the puzzle:

"The statue on the left holds a torch in his left hand

The statue on the right holds a torch in his hand"

It doesn't clarify which hand the right statue holds the torch in. Shall we assume it's his right hand, or shall we replicate the statue on the left and put in in his left hand?

Or shall we give him two torches? No, that wouldn't be "a torch in his hand". Alright, I'll stop talking to myself and let the rest mull it over with me.

Alright, so obviously one of us took the key. Do I need to do a pat down? If so, I think I should start with Zachary Fortem. He's been sneaking off away from the group and seems to be looking out more for himself than the group. Is anyone going to fess up so I can avoid groping everyone?

I am not going to listen to you're outragous claims.

*Sylvia remove Johnson's bowtie and stows it in her purse, cursing it for its flamboyance. The movement causes Johson's torso to slip in the pool of blood and reveal the word "Roster," written on the fountain, apparently by Johnson in his own blood.*

Have ya'll checked the roster yet? Also, it's cool that Johnson was man enough to be cut in half and then use his blood to write a message. Only real men can do that ya'll know.

Finally, I agree with the fellow who went to go get the torches. That's what the clue calls for, and so that's we should be doing.

Finally, we've got to stay tight. It seems the cultists are here, right outside in fact, and they've already taken one sacrifice, right? We ain't counting Willoughby since he was not on the alter, so it don't count, right? Same for that bus driver fellow. The youngun' is the only one we'll all count, am I right?

*I'd like to pull out my bone and then also go read the roster if that hasn't been done, I read the pages to catch up, but I may have missed it...*

*Um...why? Do you remember a clue deciphered saying that the swords go in the center statue?*

*Thank you. :hmpf: However, the torches in the main chamber don't go in the statues in the library. The statues in the library have their own torches. You have to find them.*

Oh yeah...

*Pull out your bone?? What the...??*

*Zack arms himself with the rib he pulled off of Stanton's skeleton and goes to read the roster...if he knew where it was, anyway. Where is the roster, smart guy?*
