Piranha Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 I'm surprised no one said anything about the track morphing from blue to gray. I noticed that later and was amazed At first I thought the whole Monorail was underwater. But the track merging to blue means it comes up out of the water. Which is truly awesome! I want to recreate this but don't got merging color track That part does exist though and I would love to get my hands on it  I wrote the Brick Journal Article. These are genuine LEGO concepts from the early 1990's that I was given special permission to use ONLY in Brick Journal (These images have been scanned in and used without crediting either Brick Journal, Joe Meno or myself and without any indication of how they have been obtained - ignoring the rudeness it is of a breach of Brick Journals copyright too!)But putting that aside; the original article is in issue 6 and is an interview with Jens Nygaard Knudsen - the creator of the Mini-figure and LEGO Space (he headed LEGO Space from 'classic' space until the end of Ice Planet). Sea-Tron is one of the concepts that became Aquazone - the most interesting thing for me (and explanation of the 'tron' post-fix) was that it was conceived of as a space theme - it is an alien water-world, much like Ice Planet is a frozen water-world, hence the alien mini-figure. This idea was actually carried over into the final sets of Aqua-zone, but was never communicated to the public. This means that anyone who thinks they are LEGO-Space complete in their collections had better make sure they have the Aquazone sets! And yes, in some ways the figure is the ancestor of Frenzy as it was the same LEGO Designer who sculpted both! Cheers, Nabii. Thank you so much for this extra info You sound mad in the beginning however, is there anything I can do? I could edit the first post and give credit? I just saw the pic posted in another topic and followed the BS Gallery. Had no idea about anything you said. Quote
Fires-storm Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) Wow, this looks pretty awesome! I love the idea of this taking shape, and the more I look at it the more I think that everyone was right in the fact that this did turn into the aquazone sets, and seeing the above quote I see I was right that they did, lol. The overall look is beautiful Edited March 2, 2010 by Fires-storm Quote
Fugazi Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Ha! Aquazone is a Space theme! It's so amazing! TLG sure didn't want anyone to know, the sets were even numbered somewhere between Castle and Pirates! But it does make sense, while was no new Space sub-theme launched in 1995 when Aquazone began, there were already two sub-themes underway (Unitron and Spyrius). Perhaps they thought better of creating something different instead of yet another Space faction. Quote
KDog Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I really want that white and trans-red Futuron seabase. It's delicious! Quote
Darth Legolas Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) Wow! This is really cool! I can definitely see the resemblance to Frenzy in that alien. To think, this whole theme was lost! Of course, it was pretty much entirely made into other themes except for that minifigure, but oh well. Lego should definitely dig this theme up! I'd love to have that underwater rocket thingie. Were there any other "lost themes" like this? I'd love to see some! Edited March 2, 2010 by Darth Legolas Quote
Updike Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Ha, funny, I was just imagining different space themes and an underwarter theme came into mind... prehaps my other space subthemes will become a reality ( though i doubt we will get oil raiders, an orange and black theme about evil humans taking an amphibious creatures oil... Piranha Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 Were there any other "lost themes" like this? I'd love to see some! Me too! I found this very interesting, I know of unreleased sets but not unreleased themes. This has given me a great idea, Seatron contest anyone? Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I like it. The ships could be better but they are prototypes, love the crazy alien sea life. I think this is really cool. We had Ice Planet so why no Water World? Love the animals and the lizard guy would be cool for Space Police now-a-days. Was the plan for this to be released around the time the show V was on? Still very odd it was never released considering how long it took to develop a LEGO line back then. Quote
Conrad Slater Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 you know if we could get the instructions we could probably put some of these together thanks to bricklnk or whatever. Quote
Yeow Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 It's amazing how a lot of the designs and ideas used in all the underwater themes are present in this one screenshot. The color scheme seems to be indicative of Aquasharks, the tubing that appears in Hydronauts/Stingrays. The green sub in the top right, directly under the "sea people" sign even vaguely resembles 6891. The wildlife is also very interesting! Quote
killzone999 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 a total phony you should have checked this first but that minifig is awesome Quote
badboytje88 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 ^You should have read all posts. The pics are real. This fig goes right to my wishful thinking list. Along with the bison of which we've seen pics. The skeleton horse used to be on that list to. But heck we got that one. So why wouldn't we eventually get these? Quote

Flare Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 I like it, the figure is pretty neat too. Quote
thatLDDguy Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I could really see why they didn't go with ANOTHER sea theme. I think that the Atlantis Portal set says enough with the dead body of an Aqua Raiders body. Quote
Hewman Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 These are official Lego prototypes that were published in Brickmaster magazine I believe. This included some old space prototypes and Space Police 3 prototypes as well. Quote
snefroe Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 the sea monorail looks so incredible retro, it reminds me of the Lego 70s sets, really... especially the train looks fantastic a shame it never was released. Maybe the trouble with the production process of the motor had anything to do with this. oh well... i guess there are more hidden treasures in Lego's archive. i'd love to see the prototypes of the Galaxy Explorer, for one... Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 This would have been such an interesting theme, especially with the droolsome monorail and green dude. It would be nice if in the next underwater theme cycle we saw something like this Quote
Nabii Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Okay, clearing up a few misconceptions for those who can't be bothered to read the whole thread (it's only 3 pages guys, it's not that much information to go through). Killzone - Read the thread before you make such a know it all comment, unless you're a troll, in which case congratulations you annoyed me enough to bite! It's real. ThatLLDGuy - This is from around 1984 it pre-dates ALL of the underwater themes LEGO has ever done, it's got nothing to do with Atlantis or today's sets. Hewman - It's BRICKJOURNAL, I took (or scanned) these pictures. I've never heard of the magazine you claim it's from. Snefroe - I wish I could find prototype pictures from that early, this mid 80's is the earliest files I've been able to track down, maybe one day I'll find earlier but for now there's no chance of classic space! And I don't know about any problems with the monorail motor but if that's true you could be right. Cheers, Mark. Quote

If only the official magazine had this sort of amazing content for AFOLs! But still, I can see how that would just baffle and potentially bore the kids who'd rather hear news about today's LEGO themes than about older, prototype ones that they'll never find in stores. Okay, sorry I forget about that, it's never been available anywhere I've lived and you're right it is the sort of content that would be nice in a LEGO publication, but Brick Journal isn't a bad option particularly now it can be bought on Shop at Home (in the books area). Giovanne Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I think that the Seatron Minifigure should be released in the Collectable Minifigures line in the future, with a updated design, the Squidman based figure from the Collectables Minifigures Series 3 was a great deception for me, instead of making a brand new alien TLG got a recolored Squidman's head, a torso with new printing, Spaceman's gun and it's all. A Seatron Alien in the Collectable Minifigures would be cool. I also made some LDD MOCs based in Seatron, including a Monorail without the rails. Quote

A Seatron Alien in the Collectable Minifigures would be cool. I also made some LDD MOCs based in Seatron, including a Monorail without the rails. ...A recolored Squidman head with new printing, and a recolored spaceman's gun with a recolored laser beam. Did you expect it to be all new pieces, really? It's at least as unique as the Disco Dude, who likewise had an old head piece with a new print, an old torso piece with a new print, unprinted legs, and two other pieces that had already appeared in the collectible minifigures (the 2x2 tile and the afro). I always feel people had far too high expectations of the collectible minifigure space alien-- while it could have been cool to have a more stereotypical Hollywood alien like this guy, there's no reason the Space Alien is any less unique or interesting than one like that would have been. Anyway, we already did get a sort of a updated Seatron minifigure design in the form of Frenzy from Space Police III. If you look at the concept art here, it's clear that the torso and leg designs for Frenzy and Squidman took inspiration from the Seatron minifigure, but were simplified to basic minifigure parts for cost reasons. If an updated Seatron minifigure were designed for the collectible minifigures, then it would probably undergo the same simplification-- after all, there's not much logic in introducing newer and less versatile torsos and legs when printing on a classic torso or legs assembly would do just as well.
