mahjqa Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 EDIT: Argh, I'm having trouble with posting pics so I just put in the link:http://www.brickset.com/search.aspx?Set=8650-1 It seems oddly familiar.
Orlego Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 I know that theyre bricks are of a higher quility but that really dosent matter to children I don't know about kids today, but when I was a kid, this statement would not of been true. I'm 26 now and when I was a kid we did have a ton of knockoffs to choose from. None were like Lego. My brother and me would build cars and keep them around for a long time. In fact I still have a bunch of cars that are still together from 12 years ago. Try that with Megablock or any of the other knockoff brands. Megablocks separate themselves overnight (my nephews have 2 sets and hate them). Knockoff companies will grab the customer at first, but the Lego quality will always bring them back.
Vader Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Well when i took my nephews to buy their xmas presents none of them wanted lego they went straight to the megabloks. I told them that lego is better but they just pointed out that with the megabloks sets they get a dragon and a big castle but with the lego and in particular the star wars cantania all they get is (in their words) a lame looking dinosaur and a few figs sat in a block of lego. So IMO lots of kids will go for the better looking set regardless of which bricks stick together better, however after getting a megabloks set i suspect that many kids will then prefer lego and will hopefully apricate them more.
sam89 Posted November 26, 2004 Author Posted November 26, 2004 Here's a new City Speedboat found at Kostky.org. I think it looks really good except for those two large pieces used. According to the news we've heard before this set should have a working engine.
David85 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Wow.... I really don't like that. It's just two big things with some new pieces stuck in the middle. Why doesn't Lego try making a biulding! They have a fire truck and lader and it's great fun. But who are they going to save.
Vader Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 I actually like it, but i do agree lego need to make some buildings with all those fire trucks that we have an all.
David85 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Anyone think this thing will float? If it floats then I'll buy it. :)
sam89 Posted November 26, 2004 Author Posted November 26, 2004 Anyone think this thing will float? If it floats then I'll buy it. :) Well I'm guessing it floats if it has a working engine.
David85 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Anyone think this thing will float? If it floats then I'll buy it. :) Well I'm guessing it floats if it has a working engine. :P Old boats floated, even the Police boat for 4+ floats, no reason they can't do the same for System sets.
Orlego Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 The two big hull pieces (or one large piece) looks like it will float, just like the old boat sets. I also don't think they would do a molded piece like that unless it did float. I do like it, but would not buy it. What ever happened to Lego making home/buildings sets? They have the Main Street Legend set but it is an old set. Even the buildings they have are kinda Megablock. Like the train station and (sorry David) the new fire station.
David85 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 The Train Station is a little odd, but not a bad set and not "megabloks" at all. The Fire Station is a joke conpared to the great stuff, but it is 100 times better than the last one, and $20 cheaper. The garage should have been a little bigger, and there should have been a second floor on the thing. But for the price the set can be fixed within 10 minutes. What really makes me made is the Fire Sation my first real new color set, and the dark grey platform the thing is on is terrible! The new dark bley is fine for small pieces, but the base hurts my eyes, and I added a piece to keep it together and it was just bad.
Jipay Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Why doesn't Lego try making a biulding! They have a fire truck and lader and it's great fun. But who are they going to save. We have the house set ! and this boat is a perfect occasion for the fireboat to act ! :)
David85 Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 I don't have the house. The house isn't a System set. There is no one to save from the house. The house isn't tall enough to use the lader of the fire truck.

It is much better that the last one and much cheaper. The train station is just pure odd. It would be nice if Lego re-issued the Metro Station set (4554) or made a more classic station set like it. They did a great job on the train shed, you just have to buy two of them. It would be great if they offered a station that is on par with the shed. As for the base of the new fire station, I know what you are saying. I also don't care for the big base of the new police station. I don't have the house. The house isn't a System set. There is no one to save from the house. The house isn't tall enough to use the lader of the fire truck. And I don't think it is available in the US. It is not in any books or stores and the website will not let me order it. It says "not available in your country".
medib Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Hi. I went to the Toysrus in Niagara Falls, NY (USA) and I seen the new Boat ($30.00 US), as well as the Fire Truck and Fire Station, and the new Ferrari Car (I think $39.99 US?) and a designer set (9.99US). I bought the Fire Truck and Fire Station. The fire truck looks very modular so you can deside to change the designs if you'd like. The "rescue truck" that comes with the Fire Station has a facet-piece that simulates filling up of Fire Extinguishers, at least that's what the box shows. Just thought I'd post that. I actually live in Canada, and we don't have any new 2005 sets here yet. Benjamin Medinets
Vader Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Oh man i cant wait to get these babys, i visited toys r us today and they had aload of lego boxes unopened hopefully these will contain some new sets.
sam89 Posted November 27, 2004 Author Posted November 27, 2004 The boat is $30? No to that then. He doesn't know what price the boat is. Re-read his post carefully. ;)
jonfett Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Here are some nice shots of the new ferrari. See them all here. Looks very nice, much better than it looked on the box. Jon.
DoubleT Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Note to self o0(Must get this set)0o Lego has done great work here :)
Vader Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 This is a must have set its beautiful, when lego put there minds to it they can really raise the bar for all the other clone brands out their.
Jipay Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 That looks much better than the box photo. :-D I do agree. Now I'm REALLY dissapointed that lego is releasing the new sets first in the US... Last ear the European market was the one who hasn't lost money. We deserve better than late released sets :(

Last ear the European market was the one who hasn't lost money. We deserve better than late released sets :( Maybe that's because you got all last years sets first! Now they want to make money in the USA so we are getting them first. Plus you got that house, there is no sign of it ever coming over here. :(
