Vader Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 I love the fact that lego are doing more colours, the purple being my fav.
David85 Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 The purple is great, with the lime green (my favorite "new' Lego color) look very nice. Still love the 1x1 slop, the thing is through that means we get less and less 1x1 plates / tiles because the new slop is replacing those for lights of cars and things.
sam89 Posted November 14, 2004 Author Posted November 14, 2004 Here are two pics of the Fire Truck: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=994498 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=994499 Looks cool, but I wonder why the age range is 5+ *wacko*
jonfett Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 Looks good. Not sure either about the age, who knows if this is an early box or maybe the new world city sets have a lower age. It looks like the helmets are actually chrome, not black as I had thought. Jon.
David85 Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 It's not "World City", it's just "City" now... very interesting. Maybe Lego was going for more futuristic things for the World City line and it failed so they are making a new line just called City. Hopefully through this won't mean the dumbing down of Town again like last time around.
sam89 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 Here's the new racers and technic sets:
sam89 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 Me and you both posted this on FBTB at exactly the same time :-D
David85 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 FBTB is leaking info!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! End the of world, it much be deleted right away. Anyways, is it just me or do the Racer sets get worse and worse by the year? These are like 5 pices and rather lame looking. I probaly get the yellow and Orange ones through to mod them into real cars.
Jipay Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Lolol, I know ! I did it cause I saw you were posting on the frontpage ! :-D No problem, on admin will for sure delete one thread (if not the both :-D )
ApophisV Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Hm.... don't like those things.... Maybe the yellow one, and there are some nice parts at other cars.... But the design of the cars... *sick* And actually some has wheels that are looking exactly like Matchbox car's wheels... :/
David85 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 And actually some has wheels that are looking exactly like Matchbox car's wheels... :/ I was thinking that!!! They look like the Hot Wheels or Matchbox desgner cars were you have a few pices and you make your own then race them.
jonfett Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Well, they erm... they look strange really *wacko* The colours are ugly, the cars themselves look odd and it seems that there are too many new pieces in them.. why couldn't TLC put the money they spend on these news parts into something else?? The sets look not much like lego.. all those molded engines and front pieces make them look cheap like megablox (no filter needed). Lets hope we see some greater stuff like the city sets instead of these. But thanks again to Sam for giving us this news! Jon.
David85 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I know, Lego complains about loosing money and that new molds cost a lot, but what the hell is up with these? The new "City" sets have only like 2 new pieces, the great and used a lot 1x1 slope, and the things above the wheel. These are only used in these sets, so bad. The "old" ones had new pieces but they were used in other places as well, and good for more things, but those engines can only be used as engines, very very bad. The Tectnic set is ok, but seems too weak and stringie.
Luigi Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 It looks really like Hot Wheels, with the fire burning on the back ... But let's hope it's the end of the thing :s it's just :'( They should keep going the way of designer's sets (like the last Bonanza, i finally didn't manage to stop me, i took one for me and two for Freelug members ... 35
sam89 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 I didn't get a chance to say my opinions on these sets at the time but I will now. Technic - Looks pretty good, with a complicated mechanism in it. But I doubt I'll get it. Yellow Racer - I think it looks cool as a car, but not as a Lego set. Far too <insert that tiresome argument>. Black - Seems too flat, but looks OK. Green/Sliver - The silvery pieces look cool, and I like its curved look, but maybe it's too curved. Grey/Red - Very boring. Orange - Maybe a bit square, but probably the best of the lot. Black/Orange - Doesn't interest me at all. Both of the bikes - Don't interest me. So overall a bit disappointing, but they're not the worst sets Lego has produced.
Jipay Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Well yeah, it looks like micromachines to me, or hotwheels, definitly not lego. But I won't complain, I already have a lot of nice city sets to buy. Now if people buy those racers, it's good for us because lego will have a better financial health :)
David85 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 So overall a bit disappointing, but they're not the worst sets Lego has produced. Yeah, like that is saying a lot. :P
dEATH_sICKLE Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 where do you find these kinds of images? I never find anything when I look for new Lego sets on the net
David85 Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Thats why you have to come here everyday and check to see if there are new ones. And then post things. :)
Jipay Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 where do you find these kinds of images? I never find anything when I look for new Lego sets on the net he he that's our secret ;)
Orlego Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 It's not "World City", it's just "City" now... very interesting.Maybe Lego was going for more futuristic things for the World City line and it failed so they are making a new line just called City. Hopefully through this won't mean the dumbing down of Town again like last time around. TLC is telling us (Lego stores) that World City will continue as a series and become more complicated sets for older children (7or 8+). The new "City" series was designed for younger children (5+). But who knows, they may do away with world city before all is said and done.

mahjqa Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 My personal views/considerations/idle banter/opinion on the latest info about the racers sets: Technic: Very yummy. Lots of gears is a good thing. Proof that studless might even be the way to go. Yellow car: I second the Matchbox/Hotwheels car statement. Too bad that the mudguard part isn't really universally useable. I would love it if they doctored out some new and better version of The old mudguard part, like they did with the new World City sets. I kind of dislike having square holes where the wheels go in my 5-wide cars. The wheels seem to be connected using the old wheel connection , but I wonder if the tires are made out of rubber, or wether they are fully plastic like with the matchbox cars (adding to the 'flimsy toy' feeling of the set). I severely dislike the front part. Also, if you look at the back there's a big gray block. Possibly, the whole underside is one part like the car base 7*4*2/3 but I wonder why it's so big on the back. It's a stab in the dark, but I think that the first 2 4-wide cars (the matchbox-sized ones) will have some spring-powered shooting mechanism, for 'launching' cars. Black car: Flat. Ugly enginepiece. Yay for chrome, but seems uninspired. Lime/black racer: Will only be buying it for the parts. Wonderful 1*1*1/3 chrome circly pieces. Don't know much about the chrome windshield, I'd rather have something made out of transparent plastic. I wonder if they'll release more models of this size, like last year's 8380 red maniac. Red/grey/black racer: Weird curved pieces in the back, many printed pieces. (Personally; since I'm a parts harvester I'd rather have stickers, but I'll just order some Brillo instead.) It may have a pull-back engine, but I'm not too sure of it. One thing I really like; the chrome handlebars. I don't doubt people can use these pretty nicely. Orange parts pack: Well, it's just that. Nice selection of rare orange pieces. Hate the engine and the front part. All in all a likeable model, though. If only they'd made the engine like here... And I don't know how yet, but I'm going to remodel it so it has a pull-back engine inside, since it doesn't seem to have one. I'd love to race this car around. Bigwheeled contraption: Circle saws on cars aren't new, but I dislike it here. The 'hot wheels' paintjob (printing/stickers with flames and such) is far from stylish. It's not as much a car as a caricature of one. (Which can also be said of the other 'hot wheels' sets.) I suppose they'll release another 2 or 3 of this size (akin to the 8383 Nitro Terminator), I hope they have a somewhat better design. The slammer bikes: I enjoyed the recent bikes a lot, since they were quite recogniseable and in some ways even realistic. The new ones aren't very much so. (Flame parts? Please.) I've never owned any 'slammer' sets, but I think I'd prefer the self-powered ones. Bottomline: I'll be buying some of these for the parts. I understand that Lego is going for the kids here (And they should. Knowing how much fun I had with the recent racers sets and matchbox cars when I was a kid I understand the decision to go this way completely) but I was kind of hoping for something more...original. Don't get me wrong... I have a couple of reservations about new parts and stuff, but I do think these new sets will be quite enjoyable. I also suppose these won't be the only '05 racers sets, and I like that. Now the only thing to do is releasing a town to put all these cars in.
ApophisV Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Wow... :oo I'm thinking about putting this post into the review section.... ;) But welcome here, mahjqa! You mentioned some evry interesting things, especially those 8 round chrome 1x1 dishes, I'd never noticed them myself!!! I guess you are very into Lego cars / Racers? (I love this sweet red car!!! *wub*)
