Vader Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 WOW!!!!!!!! I cant wait to get my hands on that new alpha team set, i really like what theyve done for this line, its much better than i was expecting.
mahjqa Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Wolf04; I'd like to disagree with you, if I may. It's true that the Ferrari Enzo is a wonderful car, but I believe that the set designers got it right. I know Lego has a lot of specialized pieces, but I really wouldn't want them to make even more molds for this set than they already have. Also, however much you'd want it not to, lego IS square. As such, it's nearly impossible to fully replicate a car, especially if it's as smooth as the ferrari. where are those curvy pieces when you need 'em? They're there, dude. Plenty of ' em. If you want MORE specialized curved pieces, I've got the perfect set for you right here. Warning! (1) not for the faint of heart (2) for education purposes only (3) pay attention to the special roof part. And sure, there are special techniques and SNOTty ways to gain a more smooth appearance, but the Lego designers have one thing they should pay attention to: It's a kid's toy. As such, it should be sturdy, playable, and shouldn't require the assistance of an adult to build. Maybe you could design the perfect front using plates placed under a 22
ApophisV Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Another post by the guy who isn't afraid to say 'Megabloks'. Look! I can say 'Voldemort' too! Ts ts, you're walking on thin ice here.... :D ;)
David85 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 What the hell are they doing with Alpha Team?! And why won't Lego try to make a new Theme?!
mahjqa Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Well, I think Alpha Team will be the line Lego will have for the boys who like their action until space is finally allowed to return. *cough*starwars*cough* As for a new theme... that's only for the lego blokes to know.
Jipay Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Well the end of star wars licence will maybe be a good thing in itself : our sets will gain in value and we will have new sapce themes
Jipay Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 What the hell are they doing with Alpha Team?!And why won't Lego try to make a new Theme?! A new theme cost a huge amount of money in research and development
Orlego Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Damn... I really liked this set.... Actually I'm not into cars, technic or any city themes or anything related, I thought this "racers" set is just cool.... Same here ApophisV. I'm not into the cars or racers collections, but I think they did a nice job with the Enzo. Well, I think Alpha Team will be the line Lego will have for the boys who like their action until space is finally allowed to return. *cough*starwars*cough* Here in the states we have a Discovery theme that includes the Luner Rover, Mars Rover and a Space Shuttle, just to name a few. Since the 05 SW sets are on the way, the Discovery sets are now discontinued.
David85 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 What the hell are they doing with Alpha Team?!And why won't Lego try to make a new Theme?! A new theme cost a huge amount of money in research and development Well the end of star wars licence will maybe be a good thing in itself : our sets will gain in value and we will have new sapce themes Yet throughout the 90s there were new themes every year and every year Lego made money, something they are not doing now. The cost to make new themes is probably a whole lot less than to buy pointless licenses, aka Disney and Dora the Explorer, and Star Wars and Harry Potter, and Spider Man. And how does everyone know that after Star Wars ends Lego will go back to making Space sets? I think what Lego is do is easing its way to make Alpha Team in Space. Star Wars Lego sets will never really gain that much, they have so many made and so many have them that they would have to be 50 years from now and in mint condition.
Vader Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Yes lego made lots of money in the past but remember they had the market to themselves back then, the amount of clone brick sets that are out now must of hit lego hard.
David85 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Yes lego made lots of money in the past but remember they had the market to themselves back then, the amount of clone brick sets that are out now must of hit lego hard. So you don't want other companies? The fact that there is more than just Lego now should have woke Lego up from their dreamland, but it didn't, still think they are the only ones and they are paying for their short sighted ignorance.
Jipay Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I agree on the licence point, this is why they decided to stop the licences after the actual ones end. :) So the probability for the star wars licence to be renewed is reached almost 0. Considering the price set issue of SW, I think by seeing the old falcon at 300/400 euros on some websites that some other sets have chances to reach a high price
David85 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Lego took back that "no license" thing. They are now saying that they will be studied more and yadda yadda. Kind of like what they are saying with the colors. All we can do is sit and wait and hope we get good sets like the City sets for a good price and that they don't completely wreck everything.
jonfett Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 That new alpha team looks good. Seems like we will get lots of clicky hinges in the tail. As for the whole Alpha Team and Star Wars and Space issue. It will be good to see the end of Star Wars... not in a bad way becuase I am sure we will miss the sets but we will get some decent stuff, instead of this Ogel megablock we get for alpha team. Some of it is ok, like this years line. But some older sets have been quite poor and basically made up of one large trans windscreen. But again, lets see what the future holds. :) Jon.

David i dont mind their being other companies in fact i quite like the fact that lego has some competion, all i was saying is that the lack of other companies helped them to make a higher profit. You are right tho about their short sightedness, it really gets to me that instead of giving us more good sets they just seemed to up the prices instead. I know that theyre bricks are of a higher quility but that really dosent matter to children, if i was a kid and i had say
David85 Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Fire station for $30 is not bad. The reason why Lego made more is because the sets where better and more people bought the sets.
Vader Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Well im not sure if they were better but there sure was alot more to chose from.
Jipay Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 Well im not sure if they were better but there sure was alot more to chose from. I remember the days we could choose beetween M-Tron, Blacktron or space police. :)

DoubleT Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 year, and there was two kinds of Blacktron *wub*
Vader Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 That was the golden age of lego, i used to love all the robin hood sets and the castle sets were in full swing how i miss them all :'(
KimT Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 What I miss is a good clean SPACE theme again and the same for City. I think World city keeps focus on fire, police and robbers. I hope to see some of the good old sets again. Like cars, houses and vans. I'd love to apply the city part of a city to my city sets. And now also a race track. Must have the new Ferrari racer. :-) KimT "Onwards men. Victory is at hand!" - famous last words
