FinalFeature Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) Can anyone tell me more about this minifigure. My aunt worked at Fenway Park in Boston in the 90's. These were given away to kids as a promo. I have 90 of these minifigures. I would like to know more about them and also would like to know how rare they are. Thanks, LegoGalactus Edited March 5, 2010 by LegoGalactus Quote
Siegfried Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 I'm 99.9% sure it's a custom. EDIT: My aunt worked at Fenway Park in Boston in the 90's. These were given away to kids as a promo. JayDuck Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Oh wow. I don't know if those were customs or just limited-run promo pieces done for the team by TLG, but they certainly are rare, if BrickLink is anything to go by. I'm inclined to think they came straight from Lego, since there have also been two Duplo bricks with the Red Sox logo on them, but the picture of the torso at peeron does look like the logo is a decal rather than being printed directly on the torso, so without more information I suppose it's hard to conclude either way. I came across the BrickLink catalog entry for the minifig a while ago after I found out about the Sox Duplo, and I think they're great. Unfortunately, I don't have any info beyond those two links. I'd love to get my hands on one, but if the BL price guide is any indication, they're way out of my price range ballpark. I mean, we're talking over the Monster, across Lansdowne, and out on to the Pike kind of distance. Congratulations, that's quite a find! GO SAWX! Quote
Thee Pirate Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Alright, alright, I know this is stating the obvious, but damn! That's $9,000 in minifigs! Hold onto the ones with the least amount of damage (yellowing and what not) and sell the rest, you can buy a car, or vastly expand your Lego collection with that kind of money!! Quote

Well it seems I stand corrected. I've never heard of this... Go EB team knowledge! Quote
Big Cam Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 OMG, 90!!!! You're sitting on a bank. Time to open a bricklink store. Cool custom fig for the park. Quote
MacK Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Your aunt left you ninety of these? You must have been her favorite . These are sure to be worth a lot assuming that the torso's aren't stickers and they're in pretty good shape. Quote
funkybrick Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Wow, you're a lucky person! Time to spend some money, eh? Don't forget to thank your aunt for that treasure! funkybrick Quote
davee123 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Yes, it was a real promo-- My friend went to a Red Sox game in August of 1999 (I don't recall the exact date) and made sure to get one for me when he saw it. These are EXTREMELY rare, and were done in conjunction with the DUPLO Red Sox 1x2x2 promo bricks. The promotion did not appear to be done with any other MLB team, just the Red Sox. Here's my post about it on LUGNET, shortly after I got it: http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=6955 I've seen people who had one or two of these, but 90 is absolutely amazing. If you decide to start selling them, keep the price high. These have been sought after by collectors for nearly 11 years now-- I very much doubt that any other large caches of them will ever appear again. And given that it requires a license deal with the Red Sox, it's unlikely that LEGO will do these again, unless they make the logo a sticker rather than a printing. Congratulations on such a huge find! DaveE Quote
FinalFeature Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) Thanks everyone for the fast reply's. I know that the torso isn't a sticker. I'll try to post all 90 later on today or this weekend. Edited March 5, 2010 by LegoGalactus Quote

davee123 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 My friend went to a Red Sox game in August of 1999 (I don't recall the exact date) So, it had to have happened prior to August 24th 1999 (since that's when I posted about it), but after thinking about it, the friend that gave it to me moved out of our apartment in (I believe) June of 1999. So I'm pretty sure the date of the game would've been a home game for the Red Sox in April, May, or early June. I would guess it was probably a weekend game, since I would expect those are the days that are more likely to be promo days where LEGO would want to do more advertising, but I'm not sure. DaveE Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Man, are you lucky or what ? 90 of them - OMG ! What a collectors item, I too have never heard of them - it would be the only baseball theme figure in the history of Lego ! Hold on to them as long as you like and only sell them when you want to, they are yours right so enjoy having 90 Red Socks fans around. Shouldn't they red feet since they are the Red Socks eh ? I'm a conformist! ! Quote
FinalFeature Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Sorry to bring a old topic back to life but i was wondering how much each red sox figure can go for. Im not planning on selling them but was just wondering how much they can go for. Thanks, LegoGalactus Quote

Im not planning on selling them but was just wondering how much they can go for. Thanks, LegoGalactus It was posted earlier that bricklink has only sold two, a new one for $100.00 and a used one for $57.00 So honestly, you get to set your own price, but remember, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay, so if you put them up for sale for $200 each, you'll probably only sell one or two. If I were you and I wanted to sell them, I'd put them on bricklink for like $75-80 each. Quote
prateek Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 If I were you, I'd keep 30 and sell the rest. With the 30, you'll have two full ball teams, and with the money you made off the other 60, make a baseball field. Quote

Shadows Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I've got a spyrian android on a keyring does anyone know if they're rare? This? Not particularly, though I guess it depends on perspective. Figure $8-10 or so. Quote
Shawn Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 (edited) I have been doing some research on this one and I think I found out everything other than the date of the game. http://minifigpriceguide.com/wordpress/the-only-official-lego-mlb-figure-ever-produced-rare-1999-red-sox-give-away/ Edited December 22, 2014 by Shawn Quote
