timtosino Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) I've been trying to get engraved name badges for my club for over a year. Yes I've heard of the brickengraver and I sent him an email literally a year ago and he only got back to me in Oct after I prodded him on flickr. Needless to say after numerous emails of him promising to do my work and saying he's already sent it out but not even telling me how to pay for it I've given up. Good thing I didn't send him any money but its dishearting because my club has a bunch of new members who would like to go down to BrickCon this year with badges. Is there no one else that does this service because the brickengraver's service = FAIL. It is a decently sized order too maybe 15 name badges. Edited March 5, 2010 by leavebeaver2me Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 "No. There is another." Lemme get some contact info and get back to you. If you pre-register though, you do get a name badge. Quote
escortmad79 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Read online that Tommy was experiencing problems with the engraver for a while. There is another person that does it but can't find the information on who. A couple of Lego Stores in America (Orlando, Anaheim & Mall of America) are apparently able to do engraving. http://stores.lego.com/en-us/Exclusives.aspx (Link in Foreign language) Quote
KimT Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 This guy's work is awesome. CJB The shop's currently closed, but he's back soon and his printing/engraving is the best I've ever seen. Quote
escortmad79 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) That's who it was!! Here's their actual website: http://cjbgraphics.dk/index.htm Edited March 5, 2010 by escortmad79 Quote
timtosino Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 Thanks for the help guys i'll let my club know, hopefully he'll be done moving soon. Quote
timtosino Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 It seems as if CJB closed his bricklink shop completey and hasn't updated his website since Jan. On another note The Brick Engraver has an ad on The Brick Journal I noticed, fat chance he'll ever reply to you though. I guess my club is royally screwed over once again. Quote
dr_spock Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 You can try find a local trophy and plaque shop in your area. They might be able to engrave plastic bricks if you supply them. Quote

CP5670 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 If you just want bricks with your names on them, I think most of the major Lego events give you that as part of the registration package. You will rack them up quickly after a few years of such events. I have more name bricks now than I know what to do with. BrickFest, back when it was still on the east coast, also let you have a second brick on the badge with your LUG's name (or whatever other text you wanted), but that doesn't seem to be as common. timtosino Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 He replied to me quickly on Flickr when I enquired about whether he ships to the UK a few months or so ago Lemme give you a quick run down of the run around he gave me: March 2009: I email Tommy about some bricks I wanted engraved with my name and another 15 for my club. October 2009: I make a comment on flickr on Bill Tojwes flickr stream that Tommy never replied to me, Tommy emails me back that the the emails from both my adresses were put in his spam folder. He promptly offers to do my own work for free and charges $30 for the club stuff. I email him back saying that's great, what paypal does he want it sent to. Novmber 2009: Having not heard back from him I email him again asking if he's started the work or needs more time to get bricks, he said he sent them out a long time ago. Janurary 2010: I email him again asking if they were ever sent out, he never replies, I grow frustrated in the full year he's had my order he's gotten a new website, and advertisments, yet I'm reduced to commenting about his poor customer service on flickr. The good news is we might have a local AFOL who might do the engraving, he might just need a few practice bricks to flesh it out :) Quote

I can't believe no on else but Tommy offers this service. I see he does work for people who get posted to TTB but can't be bothered to do an order I submitted to him over a year ago, it just makes me boil Edited May 24, 2010 by leavebeaver2me Quote
DLuders Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 As "dr_spock" suggested, I would get your own bricks from your favorite Bricklink shop, and then go to your local trophy and engraving shop to get them to engrave the bricks. The same computerized tools used to engrave the metal and plastic trophy placards can easily engrave Lego bricks. You're making this too complicated. I bet you can get the whole job done in less than 2 weeks. Quote

I'm the one that does the name badges for CoWLUG (www.cowlug.net) If it's a small run, I could help you out. At this point, this is a hobby of mine, not a business. And I'd be happy to help out another club. Tommy is a good guy but I know he's rather busy at times. Quote
Siercon and Coral Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 So, I'd like to resurrect this thread simply because several of the answers are now obsolete... and I cant find anyone :P If I find the answer, I'll post it, but for now... Does anyone have any updated info? Quote

Does anyone have any updated info? So, yes, I made the badges. Tommy Armstrong is still engraving and printing on bricks. If I needed engraved badges and I didn't have the ability, I'd contact Tommy at brickprinter.com. I think leavebeaver2me and the LUG were happy with the badges and brick I engraved. We had more problems with the Canadian Post Office strike than with my turn around time. But if you're really stuck and I have time, I may be able to help out. However, contact Tommy Armstrong first. LEGO Historian Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Tommy is a great guy... but very busy (I can relate). He likely gets a zillion EMAILs (as do I)... and sometimes some slip thru the cracks. I do know there were some issues with his machine, and also he was getting some buzz from some legal folks. It's enough to turn you off to the idea... He made me a set of 20 REGINA MAERSK 1x10 white embossed bricks (see image below) for he semi-MOCs I was selling 2-3 years ago of the first LEGO Maersk ship of 1959-60. He was careful in not using the official Maersk font (which I had asked for). He does high quality work, just not as much as he used to. I think sometimes the effort is just not worth it for him... and then there's life outside of LEGO. Just sayin'..... Gary Istok Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I know the original question was asked a long time ago and presumably everything turned out Ok, but FWIW, if anyone is still wondering about this... Some (well, at least one - the one at Downtown Disney in Orlando) of the official LEGO Stores actually sell engraved bricks themselves. One can even get them engraved with various designs (Classic Space tributes and such), as well as with the store name and location. Custom bricks can also be had, I believe, though they're more expensive, IIRC. Quote
timtosino Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) I'd like to resurrect this thread, I was able to get the first round of badges engraved by Stuart G. from CoWLUG, but his CNC machine broke after I submitted him another order in the summer of 2013. Does anyone know of a person or website who offers this service now? (preferably in North America) Someone in my club just tried to order from Tommy (The Brickprinter/Engraver) in Sept. and he never replied and then almost got screwed over if not for Paypal agreeing to waive the dispute date. kermit Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 (edited) Is Stuart planning on getting a new machine to continue making badges because that is something I would like to get too and what is an average price quote? Edited October 15, 2013 by kermit Quote
timtosino Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Is Stuart planning on getting a new machine to continue making badges because that is something I would like to get too and what is an average price quote? Stuart said he won't be able to engrave anything for awhile an doesn't have a timeframe yet on when he might get it fixed. He charged my $4-5 for each 2 piece badge with backer. Quote
timtosino Posted October 18, 2013 Author Posted October 18, 2013 I'm managed to find The Write Brick out of Chicago who is willing to do my order: http://www.thewritebrick.com/ Quote
klsmith007 Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 If you send me an e-mail, I can probably help you out with your engraving needs. I've been doing quite a bit or engraving for myself and I do have a full time job, but I can do small jobs for folks. It's a hobby for me, so I don't have a web site or anything yet as a storefront. Let me know. Kevin Quote
fluffybunny Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 The write brick does great work, he actually is a member here, not sure if he posts much. I needed some bricks for our lug by brickworld this summer, I contacted Tommy in january of this year, sent multiple emails throughout the spring, he never got back to me, the order showed up 2 days before I left for brickworld, never told me it was coming. I had contacted the write brick a week before brickworld, he had my bricks waiting for me at brickworld. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Are there any UK based anyone knows of? I have been looking around to get a brick with my name to go on my badge but so far I cannot find a printer or an engraver who would do a single brick. Quote
