Danpb Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I'm sure this has been asked before, so please yell at me (and provide a link to similar thread(s) ;)) if that is the case. I have my set sorted by color for now. I'd really like to do color and type, but this may not be possible. While I have only the primary colors (my collection is about 15-25yrs old), I may opt to just group all colors by type, thus making sorting by type completely pointless :) Anyway, I've quickly noticed that there are different sub-types of all the types of bricks. I am using Bricklink as a guide, but under modified plates, they list a slew of different types of modified plats. So, my question to you all is this: how specific/granular is your sorted collection? Are all the "modified" types broken up by modification? Do you find you needed a lot more drawers/containers? Thanks for any input - I'm currently working with just ziploc bags, as my lego budget it going solely to sets (Green Grocer is on it's way :D!). Quote
MrTools Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 mine is basic, plates by color (unless its anything X1) slope,s tiles, technic, wheels, and lots of containers filled with things i use a lot according to theme and color bricks. Quote
VBBN Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 The bulk of my parts are color coded, I also have technic parts sorted, trans pieces, minifig parts, etc. Quote
ILikePi Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 We have the pinned topic for anything related to sorting or storing LEGO. Currently I don't sort my loose parts at all. They go in one medium sized tub! I'll probably start sorting as my collection grows, though. Quote

It is hard for me not to sort as I've just got too many (a double-edged sword as it were :)) Quote
Fugazi Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I suppose it all depends on the size of your collection. Mine is small, so I don't feel the need to sort by colour, and I have in all about 15-20 categories/bins of parts. As I buy more parts, I will probably subdivide categories further more to keep part searching easy. Quote
escortmad79 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 All of mine are in zip bags pending the building of my storage drawer dividers. The smokey bricklink purchases are tipped into a canvas drawer divider to air them Bit of a nightmare to find certain parts at the minute but this will be remedied Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Currently mine is a bit jumbled at the moment, but at least I have taps/aerials/droid arms in one container, but some of my other parts are everywhere in boxes and bags, dam I must sort them out again ! Remember a clutted desk is a sign of a genius or a really untidy person ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
just2good Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Heads, minifig utensils/hands, torsos, legs, rare parts, hair, and helmets. x2 Custum minifigs, tiles, blue plates, and baseplates in a stack. The rest is just in "tubs". Quote
Zorbas Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Pre-dark ages bricks, Post-dark ages bricks. That my only sort at the moment. (If you can call that a sort.) Quote

gotoAndLego Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) I'm mostly sorted by brick type, but if I do color (and that's only down to having a bunch of a particular brick type) its usually in two groups, greys and other colors. Edited March 8, 2010 by gotoAndLego Quote
