Batbrick Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Edited image courtesy of the greatest person ever: TheBrickster: Sorry fellas, the cake was a lie once again. I've been fairly inactive for a while now but my Batman fanhood cannot be denied, so here I present Gotham Bank: This one has been a while in the making as I've been very fussy and only worked on it for roughly 20-30 minutes on it at at time. I'm a fan of the more Gothic Gotham architecture but wanted the financial district style to be more cold and concrete looking: It's technically not entirely finished as I've yet to print off the "Gotham National Bank" signs that will go one the dark grey tiled mid banner. also, because of a lack of those awesome windows this is a corner building with this side running down an alleyway, hence the use of those cool stickers and moveable access ladders: It's quite modular or whatever its called, and the back section is open to see inside: I'm especially happy with how the "BANK" sign came out, it really needed something to offset the largely boxy nature. If there is criticism that it is still to boxy I'll probably add a couple of gargoyles and roof access to offset that more so: I'm really happy to have those roof windows as they are pretty much exactly the same kind that you see in the comics and animated series that Batman peeks through: Batspying! The floors separate with ease: The inside when empty: And now full of Gothamites. You may notice that the walls also remove easily to allow for maximum camera angles: Another view: Details include a fishtank, a hat rack, a safe, and several paintings. Behind the counter here is a slightly more drab colour scheme and access to files and the safe: I like this shot: The big safe itself: Which opens to reveal a portion of the gold reserve: Alternatively one can also view this via the removable walls: The upper floor is much more spacious with easily removable roof: Here the board of directors with Bruce Wayne make decisions, with Bruce often opposing dirty money flow from various mob bosses such as Maroni or Falcone: Details include ATM machines, work desks, and service behind bullet proof glass. The other room boasts an impressive collection of old night armour: And important files: Another view of the second floor: And another shot of the completed building: Two-Face and his cronies Romulus and Remus demand everyone get down on the floor: Another shot: Clicky They hold up the guards: "Heads I go through with it all, tails I only take half!" Lucky for Gotham Bank Two-Face only takes half, and heads to his getaway car: But someone is watching him as the dual coloured car approaches, a caped crusader perhaps? Batman prepares to save the day! EDIT: Three story facade version that everyone wanted to see! Third wall taken from the side. Overall I'm very happy with it and I think the boxy look will work much better when placed alongside another building such as the Iceberg Lounge. I'll update again when I have the signs finished and placed as well which should add a touch of colour and style to the outside. Comments and criticism very much appreciated, espeically if you think the roof may need a couple of gargoyles or perhaps an entry door to give it some different shape. Thanks for looking and Wayne Manor is on its way with almost half its construction done! Batbrick Away! Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Holy cow, Batbrick ! Wham ! Pow ! Zap ! OMG ! This is one of the best modulars ever, a cool bank - mega-detail - I like mega-detail ! Safe - awesome - Teller counters - awesome - what else - well everything is awesome ! Fantastic design and build 'Batbrick' - same Battime same Batchannel ! I'm a conformist! ! Quote
booga-b Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 wow! that's some amazing stuff uve got going! Im quite a big batman fan myself. When I first saw the exterior, i was like O wow, pretty amazing but once i saw the interior I was like *jaws dropped. Absolutely love the details! Uve done very very well batbrick. Definitely need to add the gargoyles. Quote

jonwil Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Nice bank, very batman looking. Now you just need some nice villain breaking into your bank... Quote
???theriddler??? Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Wow batbrick, i didn't except to see this. This is very stunning! I just love every detail! But i hoped to see Gotham Bank at the roof. . Everything is just perfect! Quote
FilmGirl27 Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Woah! Awesome MOC, "Batbrick"! Something tells me that safe won't be very safe for long in Gotham... Quote
Big Cam Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Wow, this puts a whole new spin on the modular build. I love all the very functional spaces you have. The vault, the file room, the tables, atm, even the line is really minifig size appropriate. I kept waiting to see someone rob it and batman to come save the day. Quote
prateek Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 One word. Amazing! This is just blowing my mind. The only suggestion I can think of is to make it a floor taller and add gargoyles. Quote
ILikePi Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Lovely bank Batbrick! I don't know much about the Batman universe, but I can instantly tell that this is a Gotham building just by the interior and exterior details. I like the amount of detail you added into this MOC! Cool tiling and stud mixture for the floors - having the tiles on the same height as the plates really makes it look much better than it would have if you just slapped on a couple of tiles on top of the plates. You've also added everything a bank would have - ATMs, a huge safe (well, no one actually knows how large or how many the safes there are ), bulletproof glass teller windows, and more! Also, it's neat how you made the set so playable! (No back, removable walls, and modularity) Sorry fellas, the cake was a lie once again. That's why I like pie! (It rhymes ) Quote
FinalFeature Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 I hope the bank has insurance once Batman breaks through the skylight to save the day. Very Awesome moc Batbrick even if there's no cake. Quote
CMP Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Hm... Any particular reason this hasn't been frontpaged yet? Quote
LegoDad42 Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Fantastic! Great exterior and interior details. I love the bank lobby, safe, and especially the board room. All the details look great and must've been alot of fun to put design and put together. Would love to see a sidewalk and the other side of the alley. Really fantastic work! Now all you need is Two-Face or Joker to make a 'withdrawal'... Quote

Uve done very very well batbrick. Definitely need to add the gargoyles. Appreciated, always good to have another Batman fan around! I'm glad you love the details, as since I'm not a very good builder in terms of architecture I try to cram as much in as possible as a substitute. I'll be sure to try out some gargoyle designs soon then. "BANG!" Starts BTAS intro! ) Looks stunning, mate! ) Very well done, very Gotham-like! Thanks for commenting friend, I would agree with the extra floor but unfortunately I am on a massive brick ration so it is impossible for now. But you never know in the future... Now you just need some nice villain breaking into your bank... Darn! I had completely forgotten to show that, I was to have Two-Face robbing it! Wow batbrick, i didn't except to see this. This is very stunning! I just love every detail! But i hoped to see Gotham Bank at the roof. .Everything is just perfect! Thanks theriddler, I was going to have "Gotham Bank" displayed on the roof but unfortunately it was to be too big and I didn't have enough 1x1 black pieces. Wow, this puts a whole new spin on the modular build.I love all the very functional spaces you have. The vault, the file room, the tables, atm, even the line is really minifig size appropriate. I kept waiting to see someone rob it and batman to come save the day. Thanks Big Cam, your comments are always welcome I'm planning to update at some point with pics of a robbery. One word. Amazing! This is just blowing my mind. The only suggestion I can think of is to make it a floor taller and add gargoyles. As said, I reckon I will add gargoyles so thanks for the advice, but sadly another floor will be a long way off with my brick rations. Lovely bank Batbrick! I don't know much about the Batman universe, but I can instantly tell that this is a Gotham building just by the interior and exterior details. I like the amount of detail you added into this MOC! I'm glad you like the playable side, since I went to great and annoying pains to have it so, especially with the removable roof section which took a while to make less fragile. Great exterior and interior details. I love the bank lobby, safe, and especially the board room. All the details look great and must've been alot of fun to put design and put together.Would love to see a sidewalk and the other side of the alley. Really fantastic work! Now all you need is Two-Face or Joker to make a 'withdrawal'... It did take a while thanks, probably too long since I never worked on it for longer than 40 minutes maximum at a time, I'm quite slow and lazy these days I reckon a sidewalk will be an addition that won't be long off actually, thanks a heap for that advice! Batbrick Away! Quote
Oky Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Yay! Finally another Batmoc from our resident tasmanian bat! And what a beautiful moc it is! It has BTAS and classic Batman all over it! The windows on the roof are very Batman-esque as you said, but they might have been better in trans-black, and I'm not entirely sure if I like the mix of tan and dark blue on the first floor, but otherwise this is perfect. I especially like the meeting room upstairs. Good job! But how could you forget to make a robbery scene! I was anticipating it while I was reading through the first post, but as I got to the end, I was not only left cakeless, but also robberyless. You have to make one, quick! Now, please make a Joker hideout or Freeze Lab! To the Okymobile! *insert spinning Star Command logo* Edited March 10, 2010 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
LuxorV Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Really superb job, Batbrick! I love how it is detailed in bot the interior and exterior, with details which seem to come right from the series and the game! The modular building is a really nice touch which allows to see the interior in every detail and perspective. The door to the safe is way better than the majority I've seen this far, both by TLG and in MOCs; and the gold bricks in the safe and paperwork in the upper floor look really nice there on the shelves. The only thing I'd like you to add is a background (even digitally, maybe?) with a street and a couple other buildings too feel how it merges it into the city. But I'm just being picky on this Great to see your creations again LuxorV Quote
Righteous Squid Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Very Nice Batbrick: Love how it is packed full of details and the choice of style that fits Gotham 'nicely'. As with all true Batfans an extra floor and gargoyles are practically a necessity so I will say it fits 'perfectly' by imagining an additional floor of similar style I know the amount of bricks it takes can be a challenge. Personally I decided to do facades rather than full four walled buildings - you would be amazed by how it it stretches the bricks further and makes the goal of a Gotham street scene more readily achievable. (it has disadvantages too though, such as its more difficult to fully realise the all important roof) Look forward to seeing Wayne Manor and to any gargoyle designs you might come up with. (So far I have used dinosaur babies, grey minifigures and lions but I hope to try some brickbuilt ones in the future) One day you will have to pony up with the cake though Quote

I totally agree with what you say about the roof windows needing to be darker, but unfortunately I do not have any others so these will have to do for now. I also agree with the tan and dark blue not working as well as it should on the first floor, and so eventually I'll be posting a 2.0 thread featuring a few colour changes. I've kept the blue and tan, but the blue on the floor is now brown and I can tell you it looks much better already. But how could you forget to make a robbery scene! I was anticipating it while I was reading through the first post, but as I got to the end, I was not only left cakeless, but also robberyless. You have to make one, quick! I know! I feel so utterly embarrassed that I forgot one, that i've immediately shot one now, look to the bottom of the post or edited front page to see it! Now, please make a Joker hideout or Freeze Lab! I'm currently working on Wayne Manor and Gotham City Park (which doubles as Poison Ivy's hideout), but I can tell you that a small Mr Freeze Lab is in planning atleast. Thanks a heap LuxorV, I always appreciate your input. I'm glad people are responding well to the modular part, especially since I got my hands so raw refitting it all the time The only thing I'd like you to add is a background (even digitally, maybe?) with a street and a couple other buildings too feel how it merges it into the city. But I'm just being picky on this Great to see your creations again I agree, that's a great idea and thanks for it. And I'm off to smash my head against a wall now, I never even thought of that facade idea! Brilliant! Hope you don't mind if I do the same at some point? I'm not too good with gargoyles honestly, I too use grey figs and lions, though I have a design I'm using on Wayne Manor that isn't terribly frightening (even cute perhaps) but I do think it works. One day you will have to pony up with the cake though I'm going to make a Lego one just for you And now something that should've been there from the beginning, Two-Face and his cronies Romulus and Remus demand everyone get down on the floor: Another shot: Clicky They hold up the guards: "Heads I go through with it all, tails I only take half!" Oky Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Ah! Finally! Thanks for adding the robbery so quickly, Batbrick. Some very nice pics. I agree that if you can get the necessary bricks together, you should add another floor, at least a small one, with gargoyles and such. I think the gargoyles should be more scary (Gothic) than cute, though. Try using the horse headgear or the fenris wolf head, if you have enough of them in the right color. Also, I remember that TLG used a very simple yet effective brick-built gargoyle design on 6090 (look at the sides of the big tower). By the way, what is modular about this building? I don't see any technic holes or anything. Perhaps that's something you still need to work on. Looking forward to 2.0 and Wayne Manor! Quote
WhiteFang Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Welcome back, my friend! It's great to see more of your lovely Batman creations, and for this bank facade, I think you have did a nice job, especially the interior, such as the bank queue and the safe. Actually, I prefer the interior more than the exterior, and I just want to spot all the details which you have placed inside the images. Quote

Agreed, and I do plan to eventually add another, smaller floor as a penthouse suite for Penguin. I'm looking up gargoyle designs on brickshelf for inspiration. Thanks for the suggestions too, though I can't use the Fenris wolf head and I want them to be dark grey anyway. Still, as you command, I've shown off some of the aspects of my bank below with shots of how I can turn it into a three story facade Looking forward to 2.0 and Wayne Manor! Thanks, though I think instead I won't add another thread until I fully build another floor. Wayne Manor may be a while off too, so look out for Gotham Park with Poison Ivy soon! So, the Penguin will reside in a building that is run by his arch foe? How ironic! Ah yes, that looks much better. Much more imposing and Gotham-like (except for the lack of gargoyles of course). Can't wait to see it finished! So, how about the modularity? Thanks, though I think instead I won't add another thread until I fully build another floor. WesternOutlaw Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Very nice Batbrick. While the outside looks fantastic, it's the detailed interior that has your signature style. I love the gangsters' board room and the large safe with door. This is packed with action and playability. When the Batman theme was first introduced, I actually tried building a Gotham Bank. It was a one sided, open back side blunder. Somewhere I have an image that I don't think I want to share. You; however, have done wonders at creating a modular structure fitting of the theme. I truly wish LEGO offered more than vehicles as part of the Batman theme (with the exception of the open Batcave and Asylum). Great job! Quote
