Gryphon Ink Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm really happy that Catwoman is confirmed, as I've wanted more Catwoman since Batman Returns and I can't wait to see what Nolan does with her. A little hesitant about the choice of Anne Hathaway, though. I agree that she has potential to be a really good actress, but I haven't seen her break out yet, and so far the weakest link in all of Nolan's movies has been female roles - whether it's good actresses badly cast (Maggie in TDK) or just really weakly written (Ellen Page in Inception, good actress and could have been a good role but in the end served mainly as a target for infodumps). Hoping that he turns this trend around with a solid story. And Bane... I sort of had a feeling Bane was going to show up in one of Nolan's movies. It makes sense. He's an A-Lister in the Rogue's Gallery and hasn't been done properly yet in a movie, so he's perfect for a Nolan reinterpretation. He certainly seems more like a "realistic" Nolan character than any of the traditional "freaks" like Penguin, Killer Croc or Mr. Freeze. On the other hand, he's only an A-Lister because of beating Batman in the Knightfall arc, and I never felt like he earned that story. In the end, he's not the nemesis I would have wanted, but again, I want to see what Nolan does with him. Here's hoping for more of Nolan's magic! It will be amazing if he pulls it off again. How many hat tricks have we seen in superhero movies? I'm thinking "none". Quote
The Penguin Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 No offense, The Penguin, but if Nolan pulls it off well, I think I prefer Bane over Penguin. So, does this disprove the rumors of Talia being in it? Aw! Et tu, Oky! (((( I guess so. Though she may have been a logical choice. Still it appears that all three films (I'm judging by first two) will have quite a weak link between them. Because for me, for instance, the first and the second ones are prety much different films, different in every way starting from visualisation to the idea. So I guess it's not he habbit of Nolan to start returning back and making all possible links and bonds with what has already been said. (He's not Rowling, thank god! ) Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote

It will be interesting to see if he can just be more than a henchmen. Maybe he can follow the Nolan theme, and be a gang leader? Quote
The Penguin Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm such a troll! I suppose he would be hired to hunt down Bats since he's in exile now. Kind of a freaky mercenery or something like that. Still, as said before, I'm more looking forward, if I may say so, to seeing Catwoman. Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Personally, no matter who the baddies are I can't wait to see how Nolan finishes up his little trilogy. He's said that this is the end of this series, so I really hope he kills off some major characters in cool way. I was very surprised to see the love interest die in the last film, but it seems she truly is dead, and I appreciate that. My dream ending for this film would be for Batman to die, leaving plans or whatever about how to save Gotham to Alfred, and then see Michael Cane take out the Bat equipment and go kick some butt. I'm sure that is not what is going to happen, and it's much more likely that Alfred would be killed dramatically at some point, but I think it would make for a stupendous ending. Quote
The Penguin Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 HA! That's one non-trivial wish for how the film should end! Well, we know how unpredictabe Nolan can be, so I guess we'll get some nice finale. As for me I'd prefer an earthquake to happen, ruining Gotham as it was in the copmic stories. However I fear we may get a less interesting ending, with Batman adopting some kid..... That would really make some fans flip. Why do p[eoplew hate Robin so muchg, anyway? Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) Quote
The_Box Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Did Nolan actually say Anne Hathaway will be Catwoman, was it just mentioned that she'll be Selena Kyle? What's the word on the second female lead? There was an interseting story about Harley Quinn I heard recently but I doubt it will show up. Here's hoping for Scarecrow to show up again! HAHA Quote
prateek Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I want more Nolan Batman movies after this. We're still missing Penguin, Two-Face, and the Riddler. Quote
JimBee Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I'm pretty happy about that, the only choice I would've preferred over Bane would be the Penguin. But who knows? Two-Face was a surprise to me in TDK, so maybe another villain could appear. We're still missing Two-Face ...No? In any case, I thin Nolan will be true to his word, as much as that sucks. IMO, these were the best Batman films, or at least TDK. It's a shame, and I wonder when a new director will step up to the plate. Quote
Oky Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Still it appears that all three films (I'm judging by first two) will have quite a weak link between them. Because for me, for instance, the first and the second ones are prety much different films, different in every way starting from visualisation to the idea. Agreed. For me, BB wasn't a very good movie whereas TDK was quite enjoyable. Maybe he can follow the Nolan theme, and be a gang leader? Nah, that wouldn't make any sense. Bane has always worked alone, or at least most of the time. I'm more looking forward, if I may say so, to seeing Catwoman. Who isn't? My dream ending for this film would be for Batman to die, leaving plans or whatever about how to save Gotham to Alfred, and then see Michael Cane take out the Bat equipment and go kick some butt. I'm sure that is not what is going to happen, and it's much more likely that Alfred would be killed dramatically at some point, but I think it would make for a stupendous ending. Hehe, yeah, I guess it would. Alfred rocks! Why do p[eoplew hate Robin so muchg, anyway? Yikes! You should get a keyboard that is big enough for your penguin-like hands, The Penguin! I think it's because he used to be such a fruitcake in the first Batman shows and movies. Plus the first Robin was kind of a Dick towards Batman (See what I did there? ), even though he's pretty cool as Nightwing. And another incarnation of Robin tried to kill Batman... Ever since I saw Teen Titans, I have great respect for him though. He's also pretty good in Young Justice, even though he seems to be the comic relief in that show. I wonder when a new director will step up to the plate. I for one am still hoping for a CGI Batman movie in the caliber of the Arkham Asylum/City and DCUO cinematics. Quote
The Penguin Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Nah, that wouldn't make any sense. Bane has always worked alone, or at least most of the time. I agree. Since we know Nolan's non-trivial, so to say, approach to the Batverse, he may come up with anything! However in this case, there is a risk for Bane to meet the fate of burton's Penguin and Nolan's Joker. The character wii be changed forever for the future generations. Yikes! You should get a keyboard that is big enough for your penguin-like hands, The Penguin! Why you little! Actually i have a batkeyboar 9made for such insane fans like me, so it is indeed small a bit, but hey! I'm no Burton's penguin, I'm a classical one! So i have those lovely fluffy white gloves! He's also pretty good in Young Justice, even though he seems to be the comic relief in that show. yeah, I guess so. Still I suppose the character has huge potential and has never been given a proper visualisation in the movies. BTAS was close to showing the correct image of him, but then came TNBA, and we got a teenager in his early teens! Bah! I for one am still hoping for a CGI Batman movie in the caliber of the Arkham Asylum/City and DCUO cinematics. Amen, brother Oky! ) Offtopic: Have you started playing DC Universe online? Clone OPatra Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Agreed. For me, BB wasn't a very good movie whereas TDK was quite enjoyable. Really? I actually think BB was better than TDK. TDK had several big problems for me, such as Gotham completely changed from the first film to almost completely resemble Chicago, and the film not being edited quite as much as I thought it should have been. I think it was really much more drawn out and longer at times than it needed to be, especially during the final scene of the Joker hanging upside down. When I saw the film in a theater for the second time, that scene really seemed to go on too long. It still was a very good film, but I think that BB was just a bit better overall, especially because of the completely unrealistic look of Gotham in BB. I get a bit bothered when continuity can't be kept in a series, and I think the extremely gloomy Gotham in BB worked much better than the comparatively light and Chicago-y one in TDK. We'll see what it looks like this time around. Quote

We'll see what it looks like this time around. I also loved the design of the slums and narrows in Batman Begins. The Gotham of The Dark Knight was possibly a little too clean and bright for me - you're correct in saying it was too "Chicago-y". I was completely not expecting the casting that has been announced at all. I really have wanted to see how Chris Nolan would interpret Bane, and I'm glad that we're getting a Catwoman - it isn't really Batman unless his relationship with Catwoman is explored. Tom Hardy is a good actor, but I've always thought of Bane as South American, and I'm not so sure how they are going to achieved the "pumped-full-of-steroids" look for Bane - a CGI effect ala the Incredible Hulk is probably how they'll go, if not Hardy will be a more realistically-proportioned Bane, like how he appeared in "Bronson". Anne Hathaway certainly isn't the name that immediately comes to mind when someone says "Catwoman" - I've always been rooting for Stana Katic, Moon Bloodgood, Rhona Mitra - maybe even Marion Cotillard, after her performance in Inception as Mal. Hathaway really looks a good deal too sweet to play the dangerously seductive femme fatale, but she's proven she has a much wider range beyond a modern-day Disney princess. I've gotta say, I'm really excited to see how both characters will look in-costume. The expectations are piling higher than ever now, but I'm confident Chris Nolan will pull through! I have speak for many when I say that for all the strengths of the Chris Nolan Batman films, Rachel Dawes was an awful, flat character - especially when there are so many interesting women in the Batman comics to choose from to adapt to the screen. I'm very interested to see how Nolan, the other writers and conceptual artists change the backstory for Selina Kyle. They merged Ra's Al Ghul and Henri Ducard into one composite character, gave the Joker a deliberately ambiguous past, and set up Harvey Dent for his fall to becoming Two-Face - all done very well. Nolan has been able to pretty much walk a delicate balance between adding fresh and original twists to well-known characters, and also pleasing the fanbase. Heath Ledger's Joker is very different from what we have in the comics, and even from earlier portrayals by Ceaser Romero, Jack Nicholson and Mark Hamill. Is it better? Don't know. Did it work in the context of the film universe? Yes, it sure did. So, I'm hoping something like that materialises for Hathaway's Catwoman, and just as much for Hardy's Bane. It's quite interesting how all the controversy and speculation is mainly tied to Anne Hathaway's casting. Tom Hardy as Bane is actually just as intriguing if not even more so, and it does raise a few more questions than Hathaway as Catwoman. Will they change Bane's backstory from a genius Hispanic young man jailed in a prison island? How will they handle the issue of the "venom", and of Bane's superhuman strength and appearance? Once again, really itching to see concept art and photos of the actors in costume. Quote
Miss Kyle Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I don't know how keen you guys are about rumors, but I found one about Marion Cotillard being on TDKR: http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/770477/the_dark_knight_rises_marion_cotillard_heading_to_gotham.html If this is true, we might see a Talia? I'd have loved to see her as Selina Kyle, but she'd make a good Talia, too. My two cents Quote
simonjedi Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 Bane Apparently they started filming yesterday, and they have an official website up. http://thedarkknightrises.warnerbros.com/ Quote
Miss Kyle Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Oh dear, could you resize the picture? It's huuuuuge! Apart from that, win! Especially the way the picture was published is amazing: http://www.slashfilm.com/first-look-tom-hardy-as-bane-from-the-dark-knight-rises/ Quote
5150 Lego Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 New poster released for "The Dark Knight Rises" I have my doubts that this movie will be better than TDK without heath Leadger. He was the reason TDK succeeded. Without him.... Well, i'll hold final judgement for when the movie comes out. Quote
simonjedi Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 That is really cool. Reminds me of the TDK poster with the flaming Batsymbol on the building. This link is totally not the leaked trailer for the film. Quote
commdr_neyo Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 That is really cool. Reminds me of the TDK poster with the flaming Batsymbol on the building. This link is totally not the leaked trailer for the film. A not existing trailer has been removed, everywhere. I'm not asking anyone for a copy, for something that doesn't exist. Quote
dr jones Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 About the poster: I didn't see it at first, I was like: "How can you know this is from TDKR?" and then I saw it. About some not existing footage: I would absolutely despice the precense o some leaked footage. That would be if there was any, of course, and I would certainly NOT want to watch it! Quote
vexorian Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I love it when trailers are 'leaked' and the publishers pretends to be against it. Quote
sok117 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Anyone else a bit disappointed that Bane doesn't have a signature Mexican Luchador mask? It seems that he just has like strings across his face with a gas mask. Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Anyone else a bit disappointed that Bane doesn't have a signature Mexican Luchador mask? It seems that he just has like strings across his face with a gas mask. It's the same reason Scarecrow wore a Burlap Sack, Ra's wore a suit without a cape, and the Joker wore removable make-up; it's a modern, realistic (I use the term loosely) depiction of the Batman universe. Though I still hope Ann Hathaway will be wearing her leather catsuit! Quote
sok117 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I still think that there was a better way to do bane. Like the way he appeared in young justice would be good. Quote
