lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Picked up 8057 this morning and put it together, but as I was I saw potential for some modifications and here they are...... As you can see I replaced those odd missile things with high brightness spot lights - hey someone needs to see where they are going right ? Here's a frontal view of this craft. Note the harpoon gun mounted at an easy to reach place. Also note the 30deg. red slope pieces to help streamlining the craft, plus gauge and display as well for the pilot know how deep it is, etc.,. Finally, the 1x6 LBG plate as the base of this is now red to keep the red theme going almost full circle and a red boat bottom piece on the end to finish it off nicely. Comments welcome and I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
Siegfried Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Nice mods! I especially like the light idea; I think I'll shamelessly steal that... Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 That's okay, I'll let you ! Hey everyone if you like any ideas of mine - feel free to use them - it's cool ! Thanks 'Siegfried' for your kind reply and please I'm a conformist! !! Quote
prateek Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Nice! I really think TLC should have put lights instead of FFMs Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 Nice! I really think TLC should have put lights instead of FFMs Thanks for the reply 'prateek' and you are right plus 4 1x1 trans-clear round plates are cheaper than two flick missiles, 2 light green round 1x1 bricks and 2 grapling hooks - I think I might be right on that. Rocketbilly Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Great mods, but also really weird - I did the exact same thing to mine, right down to the dials and spotlights, but I put mine in slightly different places. I think yours is better, though, as mine lacks a harpoon gun holder. Did you find the grappling hooks on the flick fire missiles on yours were really loose and fell out really easily? I did. Will/Rocketbilly Nope, didn't even fit those silly things - I don't really like them that much - maybe when it is an actual armed missile not a grappling hook ! Anyway as soon as I had a close look at the box art it hit me those brackets would look good with spot lights there instead of those things. Thanks for the reply 'Rocketbilly' and I'm a conformist! !! Quote
Corvus Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Nice! I actually did the same thing with the headlights. I suppose we all got the inspiration from the other Atlantis sets. My minor differences are that I added a steering wheel in the front of the large engine piece, and a slope to cover up the back instead. Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 That would work too 'Mr Mandalorian' - a steering wheel and a slope on the rear - yeah I can see that - but I like mine to much especially the easy to get to harpoon gun ! Thanks for your reply and I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Fires-storm Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Nice, a really good mod, I have yet to get any Atlantis, but you guys with your mod's are strongly making me consider it! and the lights do look amazing but the over-all shape is very pleasing to the eye as well:D Edited March 13, 2010 by Fires-storm Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 13, 2010 Author Posted March 13, 2010 Thanks 'Fires-storm' for your kind reply , I'm glad you and everyone else like the MOD's so far - makes me want to go back and MOD all my old Power Miners sets ! I'm a conformist! everyone ! Quote
Zarkan Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 If the official set had been like this, I guarentee that it would have sold just as well, if not better. Great job the modifications - they work wonderfully and are simple enough for just about anyone to make to their own copy of the kit. Quote

Yes, I agree if only Lego designed more based on what one could look like in real life kids would buy it in bucket loads ! And you are right, buy the parts on BL and it wouldn't cost much at all and thats also including the spear gun - like maybe as little as 50c US on BL of course minus freight (but you would order more than that ). Batbrick Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Noticed your reply in the "Buy" thread tiger, thought I'd come look, and I don't regret. Almost makes me sad for tearing this apart, I especially love the way you've done the lights, and the easy-to-reach harpoon gun is a great touch. Batbrick Away! Quote
