6 and 7 wide

Hi,

First off all, congrats on this wonderful forum !!

I've been a lego train fan all my life, mostly had 12V (80's stuff), but am switching to 9V and RC because, IMHO, it looks more realistic when using mocs...

I am finally making the final plans for the models i want to use in my future layout. I will be using other peoples creations (MOCs), such as the ones from

Reinhard Beneke and James Mathis, 7 wide models, but, would i've also found some nice 6 wide goods wagons. Does 6 and 7 wide go well together? Or does it

just look plain silly...

I would say the asnwer is entirely subjective. Some people may like it, others may not. However, I mix 6 and 7 wide frequently and consider it to look fine.

Can you tell the 2 images linked below both mix 6 and 7 wide?

no, it looks like they go very well together

i love your models btw!!! also the way you combine non lego items (landscape and decals) and lego parts ! the fact that you use 12V motors in very realistic mocs is not something you see every day ;)

I think they can be OK together, though if you want some european goods wagons in 7 wide you should take a look at Monteur's brickshelf folder. His MOCs are my favourites.

Welcome *thomas*. Make sure you sign the Registry. Interesting question. I'd say yes. The My Own Train collection had the Octan fuel tanker that was wider than 6-studs (in fact, I want to say it was 8-studs wide). The only problem is that it was too wide for everyone's favorite red Train Engine Shed - at least I think it was. I think mixing 6 and 7 wide is fine, especially since you're only taking about a one stud difference. But then again, I think it all depends on what you're mixing. An old 12v train car with 6 studs might not go with a highly detailed 7-stud wide train engine (sort of an apples with oranges thing).
