hewkii9 Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 If you're a LoTR geek, you know that it is set on Earth, thousands of years ago. Lego doesn't franchise it, so I'm posting the MoC I found here. Gallery Enjoy! Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 If you're a LoTR geek, you know that it is set on Earth in Middle-Earth, thousands of years ago. Lego doesn't franchise it, so I'm posting the MoC I found here.Gallery Enjoy! I fixed the quote, Mr. LotR fan Sorry, couldn't resist... Quote
Dragon King Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Well Kiki lotr is supposed to be set on our earth a long time ago. So long ago it was called middle earth. Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 Yeah, Dragon King understands. Anyone going to comment on the MoC? Quote
Evil Willy Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 This is absolutly amazing..And the funny part is that I just made something of the sorts today..Much smaller, yet all black...and lightley based on that. Thanks for sharing! Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Very nice MOC. The detail is very good. Quote
Norro Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I am sure it is really amazing in person... one colour MOCs tend to suffer in pics. That said this is still a great MOC! God Bless, Nathan Quote
Kahgarak Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Very cool!I'd like all those pieces...to use in my own castles. Great MOC there! Quote
Aredhel Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Wow!!! Very nice details! I love LotR and this is really fantastic!!! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 That is most impressive. I'd like to see a comparison pic of it next to this: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Ersh777/...full_height.jpg I wonder which is bigger. Quote
Beagle Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Ha ha, that's one way to make an "easy-to-display" MOC: make something tall and thin that doesn't need a giant tabletop, but can instead stand unobtrusively in the corner of a room. It's still very impressive, but doesn't eat up floor space. And little Lego Saruman can quietly preside over all your dinner parties. Quote
jonfett Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Well Kiki lotr is supposed to be set on our earth a long time ago. So long ago it was called middle earth. Time for a bit of real LOTR geekiness now.. Tolkien wrote the books around the time after the Russian Revolution. He wanted to show the different nationalities/cultures and classes through his different races. The character Saruman was based on the Russian dictators with the objective of industrialisation, you can see how Saruman builds factories etc.. Then you have the opposing forces of Europe (men/elves/dwarves) who would fight against the enemy. Even Middle-Earth shows this, you can see that the general shape of Middle-Earth is similar in shape to the continents of central Europe and then the vauge outline of the begginnings of Russia. Therefore Tolkien had a point to his incredibly long novel, even if it was so subtle! So my point is, it wasn't 'supposed to be set on our earth a long time ago' it was set not too long ago in fact! *Moving swiftly back on topic after that outburst of geekiness! * I think the overall proportions on the model are slightly out, but nonetheless it is still impressive! Also, I wondered if someone would bring up Ersh's, a brilliant (if slightly crazy) masterpiece which I have druelled over for many hours before! Jon. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Interesting info Jonfett. I had never heard this before. Quote
Dragon King Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 Yes JonFett is correct. Also each race was based on real civilizations. Gondor was based on the ancient greeks and ancient Romans. Haridram on Africans. Easterlings on Asians. Rohan on England. Dwarves were sort of based on Viking but this can be speculated. Finally Elves were based mostly on Germans that's why they normally have blond hair and blue eyes. Oh yea the moc is awsome. It looks huge. Also i found another amazing orthank creation here. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 28, 2006 Governor Posted March 28, 2006 I must ask the Lord of the Ring experts: What is Orthanc? Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 Orthanc is the Citadel in which Saruman resides. And to answer your next question: Saruman is a wizard that joined the dark side... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted March 28, 2006 Governor Posted March 28, 2006 Actually my next question would have been: Did Suraman reside in Isengard? To which the answer is yes, but Orthanc is the name of the tower. I found that clarification myself! Quote
