The Generation V names have been revealed!!! :cry_happy:

Pokemon Black and Pokemon White!

Go on serebii! Or bulbapedia! They have news on it!!!

The thing that bothers me about these new Pokémons comming out is that thes screw up the order of the list. Evolutions aren't listed side by side anymore. They should have the guts to change the order when these new games come out.

Pokemone, those were the days

I remember playing the originals with my dad, good times. I still think that yellow is the best version they ever had. I just really wish that they would rerelease it with the original graphics on the newer consoles because every copy of the originals I have are slowly dying :sing: . Crystal version though is almost up there.

BTW how does HeartGold/SoulSilver compare to Gold and Silver?

Its great with the new 3d graphics and a better plot line in some parts. They do have a lot of one off pokemon with I feel ruins the whole specialness behind them. They are both great games but you dont get the nostalgic feeling as much now that the world looks all different so I would say Gold and Silver are probably better by a few points.

I totally agree with you there; I hated how when they added a Baby evolution in a later generation or second evolution (like Rhyperior), they would just tack it on at the end. Changing the order would be perfectly fine with me, but I'm afraid other people wouldn't have the same opinion. :sceptic:

By the way, I've gotten back into collecting pokemon cards, so if anyone has any that they don't need anymore or just want to get rid of to clear some space for LEGO  , shoot me a PM and we'll get something worked out. I'm currently trying to complete my older sets, but any cards are welcome.

And what you think about new Pokes? I personaly love them all. really basic designs ( Ok legends are not), and this gorilla-daruma thing its now my second favorite fire type! I really love a pigeon. He looks so silly!

Most of them are fine, some are just plain weird though (a gear?! ). Personally my favorite out of the bunch so far is the crocodile looking pokemon, and also the gorilla one you mentioned. I kind of miss how most of these nowadays are going for the cute look instead of their namesake, more monster-like. Oh well, there's always their evolved form...

I know exactly how you feel. After RSE, the starters and basic Pokemon are just... lame. In fact, the only 4th gen Pokemon I actually liked were the Shinx evolutions and the Legendaries. And in BW, the Legendaries seem really neat, but the others... not so much. Too much cute, not enough cool like in the 1st and 2nd gens.

On another note, I'm sure all you Pokefans have seen the gameplay videos for B&W, and I just have to say that I don't actually like the movement of the Pokemon in battle. They sort of just move back and forth, reminding me of Street Fighter games, when the fighters bounced back and forth on their heels. I'd much rather have them just be still, or at least have the movements less dramatic.

Heh, finally found this topic here. I've been following the news of Black & White, hoping that the series will finally be revolutionized. I've got Sapphire and I played some of Red with my cousin when I was younger, but I refuse to buy the same thing over and over again, no matter how good the games are.

Digimon did it first, though.

I think it's good that Pokémon expand beyond the "kinda like normal animals but not quite"-design they've had for a good while. Remember the first batch where we had floating magnets and bunches of eggs and mimes? Is a gear monster somehow weirder than those?

Since when have Pokémon ever been "monster-like" instead of cutesy? Not to mock, but none of them are the least bit terrifying or intimidating. Digimon, on the other hand...

SkullGreymon.jpg

Yeah, I was a huge Digimon-fan when I was younger, but Pokémon are fun too.

Yes Sandy I'll give you that digimon created a lot of these designs before Nintendo; I remember seeing a comparison shot once that showed a digimon with a tree on it's back just like Torterra, except that the digimon was created before Torterra!

As for the monster debate, I was thinking about the starters like Charizard and Blastoise. Now that I look back a little more, I do realize there was a few Clefairys and Jigglypuffs as well, so it's not entirely true that even back then they were all badasses. I guess my gripe with these newer generations is that there is an increasingly larger proportion of Chanseys so to speak instead of your Gengars.

I never got into digimon, but judging by your second pic, I can see how you wouldn't consider pokemon very menacing.

Revival time? I think it's fit since Pokemon Black and White have come out. I haven't played it but it seems nice. They're running out of cover Pokemon though. They all just look like dragons now.

I'm actually playing FireRed, and I'm loving it. IMO, it's the best Pokemon game, tied with Emerald, maybe.

Sure is Prateek! :sweet:

Hopefully Im going to pick it up on the 10th which is the Australian/NZ release date. I havent been really focusing on the nitty gritty details on

serebii.net because this looks like a new type of Pokemon and I want to keep it largely a secret so I get nice surprises. I have looked at pictures and I do like what I see. The new cities style looks interesting, but quite 3D intensive. I sure do hope my original NDS can handle it!

I agree with you that they are running out of cover pokemon. These two seem, ok, not great. I would much rather have them create brand new regular pokemon for caves and water. I hate getting zubats, geodudes and tentacools! There are others than can do the same job! :hmpf_bad:Thats my only real annoyance with pokemon at the moment. I have no complaints with the same story style because it works for the games. I would like to see what else they can come up with, but if the game is still good ol' pokemon I'll buy it.

Ooooh, nostalgia time! I was really into it when I was in my late teens. I only played the blue GB version, but it was so addictive! I tried the new version (don't know which one it was, it was in my boyfriend's brother's DS) the other day and it seems to be quite the same. If I may quote the joke my other half proudly cracked: The concept hasn't EVOLVED very much.

I miss the first 150ish monsters quite a lot, but I think you just stick to the things who got you into something.

Anyway, once again I am really tempted to get myself a Nintendo DS. Now that the 3DS is coming out the older ones might get cheaper.

I'm sure most of us have played Pokemon more than once, so I decided to make a topic, even though I have a feeling someone else has made another topic like this. As a fan who never quite grew out of Pokemon, I wanted to make a topic, so I did. So, to start off the discussion, have any of you bought Pokemon Black or White?

Here's my Pokemon story. I'm not a Pokemon fan at all, but I figure it might make some of you laugh or smile.

It was I think 1997 or 98 maybe, just before I got a Playstation. I still had my aging Game Boy, with the original spinach green screen I'd had since I was nine. At this point I was just entering high school. I had heard a little bit about "pocket monsters" as the English translation was before the game came out in the US. I got a copy of Pokemon Red for a ski trip, I think the week it came out. Basically, Pokemon Fever hadn't caught on yet, and most people didn't know what Pokemon was. I was under the impression it would be similar to a Final Fantasy game, but you used monsters to fight with. Which I guess isn't far off, but not quite it exactly. Basically, I was expecting something more challenging and complex. Anyway I ended up playing it just a little bit and got bored. Every fight seemed to be like rock-paper-scissors. The game, at least that original one, was really geared for younger kids, but I was more like 15 years old at that point. The game was really one last hurrah for my original Game Boy. I think that cartridge was one of the last that was actually playable on the original, and it was really meant for the Game Boy Color, if I'm remembering correctly. Good times.

A short while later, I would tell people that I bought Pokemon back before I knew what the heck it was. But it was known as a kids game so we would have a laugh about it.

Just to put it in perspective, I had been playing other Squaresoft games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III on my Super Nintendo, and Ocarina of Time on the N64, in the couple of years prior. I kind of purchased this one last Game Boy title on a lark. Oh nostalgia. I would kill to have the time to play those types of games these days.

Have the Pokemon games gotten more complex or geared toward older people, as people age who played the originals? Or is the target age group still kind of for elementary school kids? Keep in mind I'm asking this as a grownup who plays with little plastic toys, lol.

It;s a bit more complicated, but the gist is exactly the same. It's still for little kids, but I still play it from time to time for nostalgic purposes

I like the fact that Pokemon games have all the workings of an RPG at a level that was easy enough for kids. It was like Final Fantasy on training wheels...

I think it is still targeted to the younger kids. Though the game can go super hardcore. Things like natures, EVs and move sets can inject strategy into the game. I personally don't do it though. For me it takes out some of the character of the game and turns your pokemon into mindless drones. Still I think getting all 646 pokemoni is still quite an achievement at any age and that's what I'm striving for at the moment.

You can have a carefully calculated strategy for a high chance of victory... or you can have fun.

What I find interesting about RPGs is that due to the EXP-based stat building system incorporated into such games, a player could at some point begin to genuinely care about the virtual characters they are playing as, more so than in first-person shooters or RTS...for this reason, I found Pokemon games highly addictive.
