Posted March 20, 201014 yr Ok, I know the first quarter of 2010 is almost gone, but today I realized I never saw a formal nomination thread nor membership poll crossing all themes for 2009 set of the year! I quickly turned to the search engine and came up empty. Brickset lists 415 releases in 2009 (though technically not all are sets) and there were some real gems in the bunch. So, did I miss a formal nomination thread followed by a pole to select the overall, trans-theme member's choice for last year? If there wasn't one, can I start the nomination process (even though were more than half way through March)? My nomonations would be the following (in no particular order): Exclusives: 10193 Medieval Market Village 10194 Emerald Night 10197 Fire Brigade 10199 Winter Toy Shop 10195 Republic Drop Ship Non-Exclusives: 8547 Mindstorms NXT 2.0 6253 Shipwreck Hideout 5974 Galactic Enforcer 7641 City Corner If it turns out I was in a coma and missed this discussion, I'll take banishment to Galador as punishment . If not, what would your nominations be? Also, after a week or so of nominations, would someone voulenteer to honor a lowly Vassal by stepping up to create a poll with the most popular nominations? Stratification between exclusives and non-exclusives would be a logical option, if someone wanted to take it that far.
March 20, 201014 yr Even as the committed Star Wars fan I am, 10193 MMV has to take the cake for 2009. Hands down, Amazing set on every front
March 20, 201014 yr Medevil market village because its just so detailed! But second for me would have to be city corner gotta love that classic feel and bright colours By the way good topic I don't think theres been one for 2009 before
March 20, 201014 yr My vote goes to the 10194 Emerald Night, best train set ever. And its the best source of Dark Green to date (I can imagine how much effort must have gone into convincing the "powers that be" to allow the molding of all those parts in Dark Green that weren't otherwise being molded in the color) Plus the train wheels (the wheels are also comming in the Toy Story train but you only get the flanged drivers in that set and not the blind drivers)
March 20, 201014 yr For exclusives, I have to say Medieval Market Village. Just like everyone else. For non-exclusive, I have to go with Fighter Plane Attack. I know it's not one people go on about, but those are high quality model planes as well as toys.
March 20, 201014 yr wrong again .. BEST LEGO OF 2009 IS THE LEGO PIRATE MONEY BOX ....BEST SHIP LEGO EVER MADE

March 20, 201014 yr MMV is probably the best, with Winter Toy Shop and Hyperspeed Pursuit runners-up IMO.
March 20, 201014 yr Yup I'm gonna be another pointless poster who shares the same opinion as everyone else I think the best sets of 2009 would have to be medieval market village and city corner. They where sets that showed TLC could give the community what they wanted Medieval Market Village is a beautiful set with plenty of amazing figures, details, and new elements like the cow and the turkey it was one big beautiful set designed with AFOL's in mind (and what could be better to make the AFOL community happy ) but at the same time it is a beautiful sets for younger people too! I loved the set and my 7 year old cousin loved it too! And City Corner was just what city fans needed too! A relief from the constant emergency services and vehicles to show that TLC could make a great civilian set too Which unfortunately are still rare compared to the hospitals and police stations The set was great to expand the civilian area of your town with two (<insert that tiresome argument> ) buildings, two bikes, and a lovely bus too! However because of the juniorization I believe the set of 2009 is the Medieval Market Village.
March 20, 201014 yr For me a tie between - the Emerald Night and the Medieval Market Village. I enjoyed the building of both, my son loves playing with MMV for all the stories he comes up with. I'm a conformist! everyone !
March 22, 201014 yr Exclusives: Medieval Market Village Non-exclusives: City Corner I know I know, yet another pointless post agreeing with all the previous ones
March 22, 201014 yr Exclusives: Medieval Market VillageNon-exclusives: City Corner I know I know, yet another pointless post agreeing with all the previous ones count me in for what Brick & Mortimer said!
March 23, 201014 yr I'll be different. I think the best set is Robo attack. Not only the big robot is great, but the other stuff, the MFs are just wonderful. (too bad I don't have it yet) Not to bash MMV, but I had a horrible time building it. It's extremely repetitive, putting on 20 1x2 plates in one step. Can't they just give us some 1x6 instead? It's a great set to look at, but not a very good building experience.
March 23, 201014 yr Exclusive MMV like everyone else, got it for $120 AU and the amount of time it took to build was extraordinary, so many details and small bricks, plus the cows, brown carrots, brilliant figs, brick built animals, water wheel... Non-exclusive Brickbeard's Bounty - as I was a little old for Pirates when they first came out I don't have a nostalgia factor to lower my opinion of the pirate sets of 2009 (or much to compare to), which I thought in almost every case were fantastic, but this was the pick of the crop.
March 23, 201014 yr This is a tough question..... I think it has to be Emerald Night for me, although Winter Toy Shop also gave me a lot of pleasure. I do however have to admit that while I bought MMV I haven't actually built it yet, so perhaps my vote will change eventually ! Dr. D.
March 25, 201014 yr For me it was the Space Police Galactic enforcer,it was this ship that got me back into lego in a big way!We bought the entire sp line, power miners and most of the sw sets but the enforcer was the set i got eally exited about.I was practically running through Brighton to get to the lego shop that day lol! Cant comment on any of the modular buildings as we havent bought any as yet, whilst we have just started building a huge town, the modular buildings dont really suit the other style of building that we have so far bought.
March 25, 201014 yr The Imperial Flagship, some say its a 2010 set, others don't. Its the best Lego ship ever made in my opinion
March 25, 201014 yr MMV all the way - price/piece count, playability, detail, several different model builds, (exclusive) minifigs, etc.
