FilmGirl27 Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 (edited) Summer is coming soon (yay! Early, but yay! ) and that can only mean one thing! Blockbuster movies! So, what is your favorite blockbuster franchise or film? What ones are you looking forward to most this year? Edited March 24, 2010 by FilmGirl27 Quote
Tyrant Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 This year, I'm probably most looking forward to Iron Man 2. The first one was great and this one is looking good in the previews. On top of that, it already ties into The Hulk and will eventually tie into Captain America and Thor through The Avengers. I have high (but not unrealistically high) hopes for all of those. I'm hoping to be entertained by Predators. I saw the preview and it looks like it is basically the supposed plot of Predator 3 only instead of Arnold and Danny Glover they used some random characters that (presumably) have no previous ties to the series. I was disappointed by Alien vs Predator which managed to shatter my belief that there was only so low either of those franchises could sink. AvP Requiem was moving back in the right direction in some ways (but not all ways), so hopefully this will continue the trend back to entertaining. I am curious to see if any of the events of the other movies will be mentioned. It will be interesting to see Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, and Topher Grace in this. Some actual names (as opposed to either AvP movie because Lance Henrickson doesn't really count even though he's been countless movies) may mean some real effort was put into this. Here's hoping. While not a franchise I have hopes that Clash of the Titans isn't a total waste. Does Robin Hood count as a franchise after so many variations? I think the Ridley Scott/Russel Crowe version coming this summer looks good. I'm suprised it's not R rated though. I hope Toy Story 3 is good. The other 2 were good. I am hoping Nightmare on Elm Street is good, but I have my doubts. The A-Team looks just about as rediculous as I expected it to look. Here's hoping. I'm sure Prince of Persia hopes to be the start of a franchise. It looks okay so far, but I have never played any of the games. Quote
Tereglith Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I'm also looking forward to Iron Man 2. The preview is made of raw epicness. Here's hoping it's as good as or better than the first one. Toy Story 3 is another big one. If TS2 is any indicator, Pixar knows sequels, so it should be good. Robin Hood looks like it has potential, as do POP and Clash of the Titans (Liam Neeson in a silver suit of armor saying "Release the Kraken" is really all you need for a good movie) Looking further ahead (outside of summer and into the next summers), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is coming out and will no doubt be good to some extent, as will HPatDHP2, coming out in 2011. POTC 4 is slated for a summer 2011 release (with a possible steampunk vibe! Woohoo!) The continuing Marvel Avengers Movies (Thor, Capt. America, Avengers, Avengers 2) are ranged from 2011 to 2014 and should all be pretty good. Cars 2 is up in I think 2011 (here's hoping it'll be any good - Pixar's never made a flop yet). Even further than that, Ghostbusters 3 is confirmed for some time in the future, and a Star Trek sequel is inevitable (Kirk vs. Borg!!! [read the comic book to see the reason for my optimism]) That about sums up the franchise films I'm excited about for the next few years. Quote
RileyC Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Toy Story 3. Im so pumped up now that I have seen TS1+2 in 3D! But thats about it now because I think most of the best movies have already come. out. While it isnt a summer blockbuster I am pumped for "The Men Who Stare at Goats". Ewan McGregor and George Clooney! What not to go wrong? It looks like its going to be a great comedy Quote
Oky Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Toy Story 3, hands down! Iron Man 2 and PoP look like they'll be quite entertaining as well. I'm also curious about The Last Airbender, seeing as I am a huge fan of the cartoon, but it's doubtful that it will live up to the greatness of the show. And they're not summer releases, but I'm looking forward to Tron Legacy and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Quote
CF Mitch Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 This year, I'm probably most looking forward to Iron Man 2. The first one was great and this one is looking good in the previews. On top of that, it already ties into The Hulk and will eventually tie into Captain America and Thor through The Avengers. I have high (but not unrealistically high) hopes for all of those. Agreed. I was never a big fan of these characters actually, but since the game Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, it's sequel and the Iron Man movie, I got more and more interested in the whole concept. I also love Tony Stark at the end of The Incredible Hulk: "I'm putting together a team" Other than that... The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Can't wait for it. It's my favorite novel too, so I hope they recreate it as good (though preferably a tad better) as Twilight and New Moon. The A-Team for me too. Not really sure about the characters yet, or how they connect to eachother, but I just gotta see it. Avatar: The Last Airbender is on the list too. A friend and I have already promised eachother we'd go together Again I'm not too sure about the characters, but this time more about how they're -euh, what's it called... projected, I guess, for lack of a better word- in this movie. But the action and the effects seem to be great Like Oky Wan Kenobi I'm also looking forward to Harry Potter and Tron, though they won't be a summer release Regards, CF W Quote
Dunjohn Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 PRobably either Toy Story 3 or the A-Team. I don't like superheroes so Iron Man isn't going to do it for me. That said, I pretty much never go to the cinema, so by "summer blockbusters" I actually mean "autumn DVD releases." Quote
RileyC Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I also forgot to mention Avatar: the Last airbender. I just hope it can live up to its cartoon interpretation. But from seeing the trailers I do have high hopes for it Quote
FilmGirl27 Posted March 25, 2010 Author Posted March 25, 2010 I forgot to say my favorites. I love Spider-Man, Harry Potter, Iron Man, the first Transformers, and Pirates of the Carribean. I'm really looking forward to Iron Man 2, I just hope it lives up to the first one. Also, even though it's not for Summer, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1. Here's the clip that has me hyped. I'm also really looking forward to Toy Story 3. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Toy Story, Iron Man 2, Harry Potter 7 part 1. And for the most: Kick-megablocks! I love this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zLsdBEsr90 Quote
Dunjohn Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I like the sound of that movie, but I'm worried that it'll turn out to be too gimicky for its own good and fail as a result. I want it to be good, but I can't say for definite that it will be. Quote
Batbrick Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I like the sound of that movie, but I'm worried that it'll turn out to be too gimicky for its own good and fail as a result. I want it to be good, but I can't say for definite that it will be. It can't be any worse than the comic, which was basically just a literal "**** You" to people who like comics and superheroes. I'm not kidding, the author basically writes everything with the intention of being "edgy" and offensive. Batbrick Away! Quote
YG-49 Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Though not a series, I'm looking forward to seeing how bad the remake of Death at a Funeral is. Quote
just2good Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Toy Story 3!! I'm so hyped up about it, I'm going to the midnight showing! Quote
5150 Lego Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Well for me the biggest movie this year is going to be "Predators". I was hoping for a 3rd "Alien vs. Predators" movie, but after seeing the preview for the new movie, i'm not to disapointed. Action look great, and it look to be several predators in this movie. Lawernce Fishburne is a preety good actor, so i'm glad to see him take part. Toy story looks good, but i'm not overly excited. Should be a great movie though. The second was an improvment over the first, so that gives me hope that the third will be an improvement over the 2nd. Though they won't be out till 2011', i'm still looking forward to Transformers 3, and Cars 2. My favprite of the Pixar franchise. Never been a "super hero" kind of guy, so Iron man 2, avengers, etc.. don't interest me much. Quote
Commander Assassin Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I'm looking forward to Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia, and Inception. This looks like a much summer than last year! Quote
Orion123 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Up until today, I would have said Iron Man 2 and Robin Hood without consideration. But then I saw the trailer for The Expendables. It's a bucket filled with awesomesauce. Orion Out :skull: Quote
Commander Flash Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Iron Man 2 sounds good, especially since the first was a good movie. for the Jim Cramer part . (i am wearing an Iron Man shirt now...) Clash of the Titans looks epic, and worth a bunch of great fights. Toy Story 3 looks like a great movie, since the first two were good and the trailers seem to show good parts. Especially when Buzz speaks in spanish Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 As of right now, with what I have seen... Iron Man 2 Predators I go to the movies to be entertained. For $11+, I'm not going to see anything I really have to think about. I just want to sit back and be entertained. Quote
The Crazy One Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 (edited) Iron Man 2, Predators, Robin Hood and Prince of Persia. That's my main line up, but there are some more on the list. Oh, how could I forget! KICK megablocks! EDIT: I could have sworn I didn't type megablocks. Edited April 1, 2010 by The crazy one Quote
-zenn Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I'm looking forward to Predators, Resident Evil: AfterLife, Downstream, The Crazies. Quote
