Hi y'all.

When I was a kid (here we go...), I was the proud owner & builder of the Lego Techic sets: 'Auto Chasis' (956) and 'Farm Tractor' (851).

I am now 40 years old (ahem) and those kits have been relegated to my mother's loft for the past 30 years.

My two daughters, aged 6 and 7 1/2 have now discovered the wonderful world of Lego! I would love to sit down with them and build these two kits with them but I know some of the pieces are broken (e.g. there were red coloured long thin beams with holes in that I know got trodden on & snapped etc).

So my question is two-fold:

1) Can Lego bricks be repaired? If so how and once repaired, can they be used? Will they be strong enough?

2) If not, where can I get replacement Lego parts from (I live in the UK)? These kits were first introduced in 1977, so that's going back quite a bit unfortunately!

Kind regards and thanks in advance,

Andy + Kids.

I think it's going to depend on the piece as well as the use of the piece.

I know a very VERY tidy job of super glue will hold on LEGO pieces, but it won't be as strong as before. (I've done it before)

You'd probably be better off searching out the individual piece on bricklink and getting a piece that is structurally sound.

www.bricklink.com If it's not on bricklink you are probably going to have a hard time finding it.

I've never heard of anyone repairing bent pieces successfully. In theory, I suppose it would be possible (warm the plastic up and then effectively re-position it in the correct position), but in practice this would be nigh on impossible-- especially considering the VERY high tolerances that LEGO has (actually, they used to have much higher tolerances than they do now).

Pieces that are broken in two can be re-assembled with glue sometimes, although it's not generally quite as good as it was initially. I've repaired a couple elements with glue before, but they've always re-broken.

BrickLink. It's basically eBay, but exclusively for LEGO. You can buy individual elements that you're missing from different sellers across the world-- some in the UK. You can also get an exact list of what a particular set came with (just search in the BrickLink Catalog, and then view the "inventory" for the set).

Hi Andy! Welcome to Eurobricks. Be sure to post a topic about yourself in the, "Hello, My Name is..." forum.

As for your question, unfortunately, I don't know of a way to repair any bricks. Don't despair, though. There is a great online marketplace with hundreds of sellers selling thousands of items; all of which are LEGO! This place is called Bricklink.com. Browse through the catalog (or type in the set number at the top search bar to find the catalog entry for the set. Here are the ones for 956 and 851. What you want is the what you want is the inventory, which is to the right of the images. Here you'll find all of the pieces included in the set. What I suggest doing is going through and seeing which parts you have, and which you don't. Make a list of all of the parts you need.

When you're on an item's page, go to the lower left side where it says "Lots for sale". Click on the colour you need, then browse all of the ones available. Since each lot is by a different vendor, prices and locations will vary.

I hope I've helped! If you have any more questions about Bricklink, check out the Bricklink Questions topic.

Thanks guys for your most excellent replies.

I'll be sure to add an intro of myself. I also have another question which I'll post up as a separate thread in a min.

Cheers,

Andy
