Rufus Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Beautiful MOC as ever, Svelte, and crammed with wonderful details. I love the golden domes; the multiple arches make a trompe l'oeil so that the passage appears much longer than it really is - fantastic work The 2x1 technic bricks make me wonder what other modular Arabic buildings you have planned... Can't wait. Quote
chibi_joker Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Wow wow wow, I don't know where to start. I love this! Svelte, you have continue to set very high standard for your MOC creations. It's absolutely beautiful and the amount of details you have gone into with all the mosaic. I really enjoy looking over all the scenes in the Arabian bazaar with the snake charmer, the monkey with the cymbals, etc. Just a question. What set is that gold statue in the pic with the cat from, or what the piece is called? I've seen it before but forgot to write down what it is (I tried looking under Mayan) and I would really like to get my hand on it for my collection? Thanks! Quote
Holodoc Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Another absolutely astounding creation, Svelte! Like your Emporium "forecast" this could easily be another "official" PoP set. Such great detail! Once again I'm speechless. Like others already have said, I love the headlight-mosaic. Simple but impressive. Rock me, Svelte! Quote
Lego_pieter Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 It looks so simple, but this one is really amazing. Great job. Quote
Etzel Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 That's a wonderful MOC, Svelte! The mosaics are really great, I need to get myself some more headlight bricks to try some of my own(that's a technique that won't be able to do with the new version of that brick ). I really like the balconies too, the dark and regular tan works perfect together (which you already knew from your Department Store of course ) and the pearl gold railings and decorations are very nice. This MOC really builds up my craving for the PoP sets, I really hope the come out soon here, but I think you made me want a Grand Emporium now too Quote
drdavewatford Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Superb job, Svelte ! The model is gorgeous, and the mosiac wall a work of genius - I didn't know that headlight bricks could fit together like that. Dr. D. Quote
Svelte Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 You really LEGO-fied the proportions of the Amber Fort gate well. Shows that PoP is craving some LEGO exclusives. Thanks Rick! I was pleased with the proportions. I wanted it solid, but imposing. I think my Department Store suffered from being too high in the end, so I was pleased to refine height on this one. PoP Exclusive? They almost make the building look like an old Arabic 10197 Fire Brigade. Hahaah! Yes, I can see that. So how many PoP and GE (or other) models were used in the development of your MOC? Obviously parts intensive but some really nice ideas... Thanks I only used the arches from the Emporium, since I hate to break up big sets for parts (I never put them back together). I think there's about 50 white arches all up. The gold domes and dark tan bushes came from the PoP sets but everything else was basically either made up of Apple Tree Houses, spare white bricks from my parts collection, and a series of Bricklink orders I've been making this year (dark tan plates, pearl gold, white pillars etc. It was great to use up all these parts I'd been buying from BL in one fell swoop! I absolutely love the mosaic as well, and will shamelessly use it in the future for my MOCs. The fact that this creation only uses four colors is astounding as well, because it is far from being simplistic.I'm intrigued by the minifigs. Are they all official torsos, or are there decals thrown into the mix? I don't recognize the yellow torso on the white-hooded woman, nor the white torso of the man in the white turban... Thanks Sandy! I like to keep a LEGO feel in my MOCs, so the sophistication is not so much in the build (although there are some nice techniques) but in the colour composition and overall feel of the building. No decals! The yellow torso is from the Star Wars Visual Dictionary and the shimmering silver-white vest is actually a Speed Racer torso the multiple arches make a trompe l'oeil so that the passage appears much longer than it really is - fantastic work That was absolutely the intended effect... travelling in India a few years back I was amazed by these massive arches which seemed so deep and the vaults of which even changed colour with the light as you walked through them Just a question. What set is that gold statue in the pic with the cat from, or what the piece is called? It's the Peruvian Idol from the Indiana Jones Temple Escape set. Rock me, Svelte! Uh.... *hands Holodoc a rock* This MOC really builds up my craving for the PoP sets, I really hope the come out soon here, but I think you made me want a Grand Emporium now too Thanks for your kind words, Etzel! Only the arches come from the Grand Emporium, but sure, buy one if you want I really ought to start getting a commission on Berard-related sales.... Whilst you're at it, can I interest you in this shiny old lamp? *Mwahahaha!* Quote
Skalldyr Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Now I must get me a couple of Prince of Persia models. This is really inspiring. I'm looking forward to a new Arabic modular houses Moc series. Quote
Ras 74 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 This might be the best Arabic inspired creation I have ever seen built in LEGO! A very beutiful design all together Svelte. I might even dare to say the best on you ever built so far. Very nice to see a picture from were you got the inspiration. There is so many nice details in your Gate. I have been in a few Arabic countrys, and this truley has a genuine feeling of actually beeing there. Personally I have no intension to MOC anything in an Arabic design. But this creation makes me thinking of it anyway. Simply, Bravo Svelte!! Quote
funkybrick Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Great job, Svelte! Looks really nice! Keep up the great work! funkybrick Quote
-obelix- Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I have to agree, this is indeed a superb MOC! Great job! Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Nice use of the new hal arch peices, the design is great! Quote
Batbrick Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Fantastic creation Svelte, the use of them any great Price of Persia pieces and colours in astounding! The sloping frames in the "windows" and gate is a brilliant technique, hope oyu don't mind if I do something similar one day. I love how solid it looks, without being to large. I think you've achieved a good scale, and am jealous of the 1x1 conjoined techinue to create the patterned walls Batbrick Away! Quote
Big Cam Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 That's just amazing. The building itself looks really good. I'm currently playing assasins creed 2 and this building would fit right in. Dang, these sets have barely been out and now you go and create this masterpiece. Great work, it looks really good. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted April 7, 2010 Eurobricks Emperor Posted April 7, 2010 This MOC is of a rare beauty Svelte It makes me even more anxious to get the PoP sets. Quote

Captain Green Hair Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 That's a great first POP MOC, haven't seen any yet! I hate you for having sets already though, so if you have any spare ones..... Quote
Commander_Rob Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Very impressive MOC Svelte and an awesome way to show how the well-designed but sometimes rather small sets of an official line can inspirate a wonderful fan-built model. Quote
LegoDad42 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Beautiful MOC! Just love it. All the details, especially the cascading effect of the center arches. And the bizaar is well done too. Fantastic. Wish this was an official set for purchase...put me down for one! Quote
