Darth Legolas Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Does anybody have a good suggestion for making a Persian bystander? I'm looking to make a minifig that doesn't involve PoP specialized parts or buying, so please don't just say "Take an Indy Jones guy and put the funny hat on him," because that won't help. I can't find any turbans, so what kind of headgear would you suggest for a PoP character? Thanks! Quote

Darth Legolas Posted April 17, 2010 Author Posted April 17, 2010 hair ? What kind to what face? Helmets go on anyone, but hair has to match specific people. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Pirate bandannas work great for them, as would ninja headwraps. Use jedi robes for more torsos and use darker hair for the hatless. As for faces? Match the expression with the intent. (Face they pull with their "role" in the scene). Hope this helps All hair has to do is be the same colour as their facial hair. Quote
Asterios Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 What kind to what face? Helmets go on anyone, but hair has to match specific people. just use black or brown(mostly brown) hair, any other color is not correlative of the area. Quote
Etzel Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Make our own turbans with spare tires or police hats and rubber bands: Hoods can be a good headgear too and maybe ninja head wraps as niqabs. Quote
Fugazi Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Make our own turbans with spare tires or police hats and rubber bands: Ha this is awesome! Quote
badboytje88 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 The fez is great for Pop. As is the Marion fig from IJ from the small set with the big tan barrel. Quote
The Legonater Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 The Bib Forttuna lekku makes a fairly good turban. I'm great at making civvie figs, I could post a few if you want. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the replies everyone! @Peppermint_M: Of course, I can't find my pirate bandana! I already used a Ninja headwrap, and I was going to use a Jedi Robe but the belt looked to spacey. Thanks! @Asterios: Will do. Unfortunately, I don't have much long dark hair that is non-feminine, but I did try the classic hairpiece on one of my figs. @Etzel: I tried using tires, but failed. This looks much better! @Badboytje88: I really wanted a fez, but the whole IJ set just for the hats didn't seem worth it. I've already got the Marion minifig in their, and the barrel too! @The Legonater: Even if I had Bib, I'd never take him apart. He should be in my Jaba's palace, but no, one of the few SW minifgs I lost out on. I assume Civvie is Civil War, yes? Is this by any chance for the contest? Not really. I may apply for the contest, but I'm more caught up in the whole PoP thing on my own, and not because of EB. I just bough the little $13 set a few weeks ago, and then I thought "Hey! This is pretty cool! Maybe I should buy them all!" And here I am now. That's biography worthy. Edited April 18, 2010 by Darth Legolas Quote

Batmayne Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 IMO choose a face with black facial hair as shown above Quote
Oky Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Thanks for starting this thread. It'll be very useful for people who don't have any PoP sets, but still want to make MOCs. The best suggestions have already been made, I think, but I'll still throw some ideas out there. A single stud could be a good substitute for a fez, and a ball joint piece could make for a good small turban. However, these solutions will make the fig look bald. Also, I have seen the imperial officer helmet (from the snowtrooper BP) being put to great use as one of those neck protecting head-wraps, but that's probably more Arabic and less Persian. If you are looking for female hair, I think Padme's looks very similar to Tamina's. As for male heads, I think most people think of middle eastern people to have great facial hair, so any mustached or bearded head would work. For clothing, any Jedi/Sith or ninja bodies will do. Some Pirate torsos might work as well. Not the best ideas, I know, but as I said, I just wanted to get them out there. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) I've experimented with this quite a bit. Most of these have already been mentioned, but here's a picture of some Middle-Eastern headgear ideas: (From left to right) tire, turban, skull twin helmet (reversed - just don't look at him from behind...), bandana, AT-ST pilot headgear (should look better now in light grey), turban... I also find that a standard helmet makes a nice turban. Just reverse it and raise it just above the head. Edited April 18, 2010 by TinyPiesRUs Quote
legitimatealex Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Any robed minifigure chestpiece will make a nice Persian bystander, as will most people with an open shirt. To this end it would be recommended to look at some of the pirates from previous sets. There may be quite a few Star Wars minifigures to look at, mostly Jedi and relevant Sith counterparts. I know you're not interested in spending any money on these sets, but if you happen to have anything from the Star Wars line, definitely look through the minifigures. As for head pieces, turbans are always great, hair should be limited to black and brown. Any helmet or cap that you can turn to look like a skull cap would also work. Hope this helps. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted April 18, 2010 Author Posted April 18, 2010 (edited) No, civvie is short for civilian. Oooh... Alright then! Thanks for starting this thread. The Padme hair was also something I was considering, and the robes have been mentioned before. You're right on the pirate torsos, considering how the Ostrich Rider practically IS a pirate! Oh, and, you're welcome. I've experimented with this quite a bit. Most of these have already been mentioned, but here's a picture of some Middle-Eastern headgear ideas:*snip* I also find that a standard helmet makes a nice turban. Just reverse it and raise it just above the head. I have used that blanket thing before! I like your turban ideas, but I like to turn my minifigs around.
