Posted April 21, 201014 yr I've recently gotten a hold of all five of the Prince of Persia sets, and I like them. A lot. I'd also like to keep them in good condition. However, I also collect Transformers. And one of the things most Transformers collectors fear most is the dreaded "Gold Plastic Syndrome", or GPS for short. Gold Plastic Syndrome is caused by a chemical proces within several plastics, mostly with gold swirls / flakes in them, which causes this plastic to disassemble, become brittle, break and crumble over time (10 - 20 years). There is really no cure for GPS and no way to stop this proces; it just happens. Considering the amount of gold colored ABS parts in the PoP sets (like the domes on Alamut Palace) I was wondering if anyone else shares my fears for GPS in these parts, and more importantly, if we can get some confimation that GPS will not become an issue in these gold colored parts (a question for the ambassadors, perhaps?).
April 21, 201014 yr This has been raised before with pearl gold somewhere in the forum and as far as I remember, the colour mix in LEGO's ABS is entirely different. I wouldn't panic.
April 21, 201014 yr This is the first I've heard of GPS. Fascinating. Something to watch out for. Glad to hear it's not a problem in Lego.
April 21, 201014 yr Thats nice. Well lego really doesn't tend to have those kinds of problems at least in my experience. I wouldn't worry about it too much. What I would worry about is how dirty you let you legos get and how much direct sunlight you expose them to. Edited April 21, 201014 yr by Jack Bricker
April 21, 201014 yr I've heard of some peoples Lego's melting. But it has never happened to mine. have a Nor have any of my parts become brittle either.
