M_longer Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) I'm almost sure that many of you are thinking right now "What is THIS?" :) It's a underground mining loader, a machine that is almost impossible to see on the surface. I work in underground copper mine, so I see mining machines every day. The biggest problem with these vehicles is that there's very small amount of information about them in the Internet. Over one month ago I went to the Sandvik service point to ask if it could be possible to get pictures and blueprints of mining loader. I've obtained enough materials to start building. The effect can be seen below: It's a 1:20 scale model of Sandvik LH 517L underground mining loader. It's fully functional, with remote control and pneumatics filled from external manual pump. Real machine: And model. General view: The chassis is driven by one PF XL motor, and steering is achieved by one PF M motor. Steering range: Arm and bucket movement: Details: There are three pairs of Lego lights inside: And comparison: Real machine, model, and... me :) I'm two meters tall, so you can easily see how big these loaders are. dr_spock Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Excellent job! Love the look of it. I've seen these types of loaders before when I studied some mining engineering way back in university. What kind of work do you do down in the copper mine? Quote
Enilder Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 wow never seen that kind of vehicle before. pretty cool and detailed! Quote
Paul B Technic Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Excellent work with this, it has come together well and looks really good. Nice to see something built that not many people would have seen before. Quote
Routemaster Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 WOW! You really did an excellent job! Can't get enough of all your pics. Awesome! Thank you for sharing. Quote
Siegfried Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Very nice! Knowing you work in mining explains your MOC focus. I'm aware of the loader type, but I agree that there isn't much on the net about them. In fact the pictures of the real one in the topic are some of the best I've seen. I love the comparison shots! The loader makes your MOC look small. As for the MOC itself I love it. Great combination of functionality and detail. The cab looks like it was a complicated build! (Why was the loader so clean? It must be new or refurbished...) Quote
jonwil Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Nice MOC, even better that you could take pictures of the MOC alongside the real thing. Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Great work M longer! It's a perfect model, and it's so cool that you provide comparison shots. Quote
lightningtiger Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 AWESOME and over the top 'M_longer' - excellent details and mechanics too ! Congrats on your front paging - your MOC deserves it ! Fantastic work and I'm a conformist! 'M_longer' I'm a conformist! ! Quote
Legorski Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Bravo, Beautiful done, Looks exactly like the real comparison, and has all that is needed, Lovin' it, Quote
Milan Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Another master piece! I can just admire your sense for the mix between functions and aesthetics, the way you did details, and curves, looks like you have perfectly matched the proportions, too! Quote
M_longer Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 What kind of work do you do down in the copper mine? I work as an electrician. The cab looks like it was a complicated build! (Why was the loader so clean? It must be new or refurbished...) Well, the cabin is not so complicated as it looks ;) Theses loaders are clean, because they are new. They will be send down into the mine in the next few days. Quote
