NewRight Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I recently finished a redesign of my site www.conceptbrick.com and I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. It is all LEGO related through and through and a little traffic never hurt anybody. I did ask the admins before posting this to make sure I was in fair game and since everything is cool check out the site here. Comments and criticism more than welcome since I'm always working on it. JimBee Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Well, it's very nice and all, but I just don't understand why you would need a site like this. I remember SirNadroj had something similar, and my thoughts were the same back then. Showcasing your creations like this is nice, but isn't your Flickr and websites like these enough? Well, good luck to you and your site anyway. Quote
WhiteFang Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 This is a nice site where we can all find NewRight's superb MOCs. Showcasing your creations like this is nice, but isn't your Flickr and websites like these enough? I believed, individuals creating a site like this, is to maintain their portfolio in the own presentation layout, acting like his personal site to showcase his/her achievements in one neat organised catalog. Whereas, Flickr and other photo hosting websites, are meant to host photos and maybe having Flickr to add a little bit of Community Features, but it don't give you the real personal touch to organise it the way you wanted such as the skin, wallpaper and etc. I think NewRight wanted to have a focal point of contact for his supporters to browse around. This is my view though. Quote
Siegfried Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 It looks good! I must admit that some of the design concepts I don't like, but it's your site afterall! Showcasing your creations like this is nice, but isn't your Flickr and websites like these enough? I don't agree; after all I've got my own site too! For one, as WhiteFang said, you might want your own presentation (as I did), but also file sharing sites come and go... Quote
Shadows Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Nice site, NewRight! Showcasing your creations like this is nice, but isn't your Flickr and websites like these enough? One day I plan to open The Museum of the Absurd1 to showcase rare and unique parts, and it will be it's own website. If for no other reason than to have total control and not rely on the whims of faceless individuals in some corporate office in Minnesota2. I don't actually know that they are faceless, but they could be and we can't prove otherwise. 1 Name subject to change. 2 The specific state may vary. Quote

Peppermint_M Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Admins going off topic (in a way) ?! A Clip around your ears both! Nice site New Right, it looks very smart, also shiny and shiny is always good. Having your own personal site for pitures minus the OMG Roxxorz! of MOCpages, the nesting boxes of flickr and the scary moments when all looks lost of Brickshelf is a cool idea. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I like your site a lot. I think it looks terrific. How often do you update it normally? Quote
NewRight Posted April 28, 2010 Author Posted April 28, 2010 Thanks for the kind response everyone. I have the site to be more of a portfolio type of thing where I'm hoping to better advertise myself to whatever audience I may have. I like the idea that it is all mine and I can fix it and modify it as I please unlike Flickr (which is great for the community aspect) where it will almost always have a near identical format. I still like and use Flickr, but I find this cleaner. I'm trying to update the site every weekend or so. The blog may be updated more (or less) and the creation page contains mostly my favorite and newer creations while trying not to get to redundant. I was trying to keep the Creation page a little varied although I think I may have one to many hover cars. Thanks again everyone. Quote
