Commander Assassin Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) Christopher Nolan is releasing a movie this summer titled "Inception". There is not much known about the story, all I know is what I found in this L.A. Times article online. From what I read, it sounds someting like The Matrix. It also star Leonardo DiCaprio. You can find the trailer here, on the movie's website. And here's the IMDB article. EDIT: Trailer 2. This one gives us more of the plot. Link to 49 Inception pictures on IMDB. A few new posters included. Edited June 25, 2010 by Clone Commander Assassin Quote

Just the fact that Christopher Nolan is involved makes me want to see it. Quote
Orion123 Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 It seems interesting.. but I still have no idea what it's about Nolan said in an article in Entertainment Weekly that it had something to do with dream thieves. I want to see it, but at the same time I don't. Does that make sense? (I think he rubbed off on me or something...) Quote
Spyder Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 Just watched the trailer, I've seen a couple posters in theaters before, but after that trailer I'm still not entirely sure what it's about. I'm sure it won't be a bad movie, especially with such a great director, its just I'm a bit confused. Maybe I'll see it when it comes to DVD. That's what I do with most movies. Quote

Putting pieces together, I am pretty sure that a security officer (DiCaprio) is drugging up tycoons and goes into their dream to find out how they got so much money. That's just an idea though. Stash2Sixx Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Thanks for the link to this. One of the guys at work was talking about this today and I was going to look it up when I got home. Looks wild! Quote
sok117 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 That was epic, but at the same time, I was like "huh" It looks really confusing, but the visuals are just to die for Quote
Commander Assassin Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Just some updated news: Inception will be rated PG-13 for violence and action throughout Inception not only stars DiCaprio, but Alfred and Scarecrow from batman Begins play roles in the movie. Christopher Nolan has been writing the story since he was 14. Plot: (as far as I know) Dom Cobb (DiCaprio) is a skilled thief in the art of stealing dreams. He breaks into a subjects dreams and is able to steal ideas. (this is called "Inception") However, this has caused him to live as a fugitive and he has lost everything he ever loved. Looking to redeem himself, he accepts one last job. His last job is not to steal an idea, but to plant one. Again, that is only what I have learned from watching all the trailers. Quote
Batbrick Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 While I am very interested in this, I'll wait till a few trusted sources have confirmed it as good before watching it. Sounds like a very cool and cerebral concept, but whether Nolan can pull it off I'm wary of. Batbrick Away! Quote
Commander Assassin Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Disney's The Sorcerer's Apprentice was scheduled for the same release date as Inception, but Disney got scared and wanted a sooner release. It was too late to change it a week ahead, so Apprentice will come out Wednesday instead of Friday. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I have mixed feelings about this film. I'm worried that it too will feature a lot of that Chris Nolan thought stuff that just muddles up his movies and makes them annoying by the end, excluding the Batman films, which were finely made and easy to follow. I like a though provoking movie, but both The Prestige and Memento got so muddled up in their "what's really going on in your head" stuff that I was left not enjoying the films all that much. I understood The Prestige, but it just overburdened itself. Memento, on the other hand, I liked almost right up until the end, where it seemed that Chris Nolan really had no idea how to end it so he had to think of something fast. The ending provided could've made sense, but the character had no idea what to believe so neither did I. So, I sincerely hope that Inception won't be too jumbled in mind games. Unfortunately, since it is a movie about going into people's minds, I think getting jumbled is very likely. Quote

Commander Assassin Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Movie opens this Friday. Anyone planning on seeing it? 18 critics have reviewed it so far, and it has an average score of 9.3/10! I will be gone for awhile, so I will probably not be able to see it until the 26. Quote
Forresto Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 It seems like it's going to be pretty incredible and I deffinantly want to see it Quote
Batbrick Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 I had lost interest in this film recently, but with all this good word and reviews about it my interest is peaked again. Likely I'll end up seeing it in cinemas. Batbrick Away! Quote
Mac-K Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 (edited) So, I just got back from seeing Inception thirty minutes ago, and wow... Besides being the best movie I have seen this year, this is simply the best movie I've seen in a long time, period. The plot, the acting, the pacing, everything seemed totally solid. I wasn't bored for one minute of this movie. A second and likely a third viewing are definitely in order to process the plot adequately, though. My brain just couldn't keep up with all of the mind-bending going on. I wholeheartedly recommend this movie, Chris Nolan has really done a great job once again. Edited July 17, 2010 by Mac-K Quote

Forresto Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Just saw it today and wow! This was an incredibly outstanding film. Not only is it a great action film but a really good psychological thriller. Chris Nolan is really outdoing himself and he seems to recently fail to dissapoint Quote
def Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 It was released here this weekend, and I caught it today. I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it was that deep. Luckily I saw it now, and not after hearing how deep and metaphysical it was for months, as happened with the Matrix. Both are far better than average summer blockbusters, but pretty far from high art. Compared to another sci-fi movie it's been compared to, Blade Runner, I don't think this film had the heart Blade Runner did. All the same, it's the first movie I saw in the theater this year, and maybe the only one, and I don't regret it one bit. It gave a lot to think about, the no-gravity sequence is gorgeous, and the film has about the largest cast of high caliber actors I've seen in a long long time. Yeah, still thinking about the details of it. Great ending too. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I see loads and loads of movies in theaters each year, and I often enjoy ones the most that are straightforward and just fun. That said, I did like Inception to a point, but I found it not expertly put together. The main problem I had with the movie was that it more had to do with a cool concept than with a good story. The first half of the film was spent in dialogue explaining that concept so that the audience could have any clue what was going on in the exciting second half. But does that make a good movie? Moviemaking is supposed to be about showing, not just telling. A combination of the two is fine, but Inception really was 1st half telling, 2nd half action. And that made me bored. Total dialogue exposition does not make for exciting cinema in my mind, even though I knew that something cool would probably happen. But, even in the exciting second half, I still didn't feel very connected to the characters. Cobb (DiCaprio) was the only one who was supposed to have any emotional motive, but that didn't even work out to well. Chris Nolan took ten years to finally make this movie, but I think if he'd continued to work on it for a few more it would have been much better. The cool concept was there, but it really needed a much better story and stronger characters. Quote
Batbrick Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Spoiler post - I thought it was fantastic, likely the best film I'll see all year. While I agree with Clone O'Patra about it having a bit too much "tell", I'll disagree that it didn't have a strong emotional core. I love that against the cyberpunk and exposition and dreamscapes it was mostly just a man learning to forgive himself for his past failings and come back to reality, however it is perceived. In that way, I love Blade Runner, but this film isn't asking what it means to be human, nor which is the dream world, but more what our reality actually means to us and what's strong enough to keep us there. In that way, the ending was deliciously meta; Cobb has found where he wants to live. It's not about whether he's still in a dream because he's made up his mind and knows it's real. It's the audience that has not been subject to an inception. The entire film plants in us the idea that he may still be living in a dream world, drawing us in as it goes deeper and deeper. Then, the end gives us an idea, and it's all we can think about after the end, furthered still be the "kick" music playing during the end credits. I'll post more thoughts later, and while I accept there is some faults, I love that Nolan has gone outside his usual theme - the character falling to obsession with tragic results - instead to a character redeeming himself from tragedy resulting from his obsession in the past. And the zero gravity hall fight was incredibly innovative and well-done. And this film in NOT, I repeat NOT a rip-off of the Matrix as someone will eventually say, since it bears a greater similarity to Dark City, a film previous to that one. Oh, and Ellen Page is gorgeous, Tom Hardy is badass, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is charismatic, Cillian Murphy is actually heartwarming and Ken Watanabe is never not awesome. Quote
def Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 And this film in NOT, I repeat NOT a rip-off of the Matrix as someone will eventually say, since it bears a greater similarity to Dark City, a film previous to that one. I agree, the Matrix was a very different film. I didn't care for Dark City, and and haven't seen it since (not to mention I think the director is strongly suffering from lessening returns <ie, Knowing>) so I won't compare them. I think this film works a lot better than the Matrix. Anyway, anyone who's been giving this film thought (and I have in the days since I saw it, far more than most new films I see) should give a quick listen to this podcast, between some writers for the AVClub, as well as one for Salon, who'd written a scene by scene break down of the film. They ask some good questions, and illuminate the experience... Particularly for a guy like me who saw it alone and doesn't personally know anyone who saw it Podcast link Quote
Commander Assassin Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 (edited) I just saw the movie last week, and I have to say it is one of the best done movies I have seen. (the story to me was better than that of James Cameron's Avatar) I agree with Batbrick in that the cast was almost perfect. You can't ask for more with DiCaprio; and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy had exceptional acting as well. Ellen Page proved herself as a great young actor yet again and Marion Cottilard was perfect for the role as Mal. Also Cilian Murphy and Ken Watanabe delivered their characters in a near perfect way, I especially liked the scene in the bar when DiCaprio and Murphy were talking. Inception beat out Dinner for Schmucks this weekend, so it looks like Christopher Nolan will top the box office once again for the third week in a row. I am very much looking forward to seeing it again when it hits shelves in December. Edited August 2, 2010 by Clone Commander Assassin Quote
Zarkan Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Just dropping by to say that I agree with everyone who loves this movie. Nolan is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors ever, and his movies keep getting better and better. I don't have much else to say beyond that, except for one thing: I just saw the movie last week, and I have to say it is one of the best done movies I have seen. (the story to me was better than that of James Cameron's Avatar) Well, that's a given, since Avatar's storyline was basically Dances With Wolves with Aliens. Say what you want about Inception, but you have to admit that it it is a lot more original than Cameron's latest flick. Quote
