Does anyone think LEGO will ever make minifig shorts?

Considering they had a football theme going once I am surprised it didn't come out then. What I'd like to see is a number of colours used on the typical legs part with yellow (being LEGO figs skin colour) being in the middle....

a) Patrick from Spongebob already had shorts, even if they were only front-printed and fleshy

b) Leg printing is becoming more and more common

c) Woody, Jess, and the exclusive Max figure all have side printing on their legs

Therefore, yes, I do believe at some point, there will be shorts. Perhaps just for one theme (eg. if there was ever a Jaws theme), and also perhaps becoming a minifig "staple".

In regards to the football theme, I think that leg printing was quite uncommon back then, restricted nearly exclusively to SW.

That's interesting thanks, didn't know that. I know some football players had the adidas logo on their trousers, looked neat I have to say!

I would love shorts, but as Sly Owl said, it'll probably be a reality soon :classic:

You could use child legs and put two 1x1 tiles under each leg. I'd post a photo demonstration, but I don't own any yellow 1x1 tiles.

Weird.

would love shorts

as I am in the process of a Carry on Film style Campsite MOC, and will only use lego parts, not even custom decals (except for a certain scene in which leias slave girl bikini just doesn't work right) will do, the addition of lego shorts would be awesome, till then they are all in trousers..

And the cheerleader minifig...
it is true although only a single yellow band my 4 cheerleader do have side printing, that now means that the Lego factory machinery is set up for printing on 3 sides, I am sure it will become common place on new figs.

Let's not forget the castaway pirate's legs from 6241, they may be used a s shorts... Sort of...

However they are pretty poorly designed - only front side is printed, and only to a certain level, above which yellow colour can be seen when your minifig walks. I remember I was pretty disappointed with these legs when I got the set.

I think it will happen someday. While shorts would be nice I wouldnt want them to become one of lego's go to features in a set and whip them out whenever and where ever they can. They should only really be reserved for things such as the new collectable minifigs coming out soon.

Maybe.... by extremely impoverished football clubs! LOL

Sir Nadroj made some:

But if you have a 2 plate height attached to the legs it'll be the same size as normal minifig legs. But the only bad thing is that the curved area is at the top, making it look weird in real life.(but this can be fixed with one of the SW clone skirts)

(if you don't understand: short legs + a brick = normal legs + a plate)
