Peoples_General Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Im just wondering if there's anyone else here who is both a Lego fan and a fan of the StarGate franchise. Im, one! :D Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I loved Stargate. But for some reason, just before they would air the last episode of the first season, they stopped sending the series, kind of lost my interest then. :'-( Quote
ApophisV Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I like it very much! And I already did some Stargate MOCs some time ago. Have never seen Atlantis though because I have no TV here at my flat... |-/ EDIT: But my DVD collection is growing, no boxes but single DVDs! :'-) Quote
Vader Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Can you believe that Stargate SG1 has been on the telly for 10 seasons already!!! 8- Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I've only ever watched one episode which was on last Sunday. The episode centered around the normal team going to a forest place, where Teal'C was not on the team and then they went to ancient Egypt for some reason and, uh, I lost the plot. It had to do with a large rebellion and the puddle jumper (I think) cloaking or something. And one of them got shot, but was around in ancieant Egypt. It's not my favourite sci-fi... but it's better than I expected. Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 It's not my favourite sci-fi... but it's better than I expected. There is no physical or mental possibility for any humanoid being to draw a conclusion like that after one episode... Unlike movies, you must actually see a larger whole in order to like it or not. Sure, if its a type of series you dont like (lets say drama) its one thing, but if its within a theme you like then you must see a larger lot. Of course, if its the first episode and you dont like it, its a completely different thing- the first one must be better or equally good as the rest. Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Pardon me for saying this, but I don't see why I should be expected to watch something that really isn't all that good (or memorable) on first viewing. Shouldn't a show that appeals to you do it all the time, and not just in select episodes? Quote
ApophisV Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Pardon me for saying this, but I don't see why I should be expected to watch something that really isn't all that good (or memorable) on first viewing. I din't think anybody expects you to do anything. But maybe you should keep in mind that you could have watched one of the worse episodes (and if I remember correctly the only really cool thing at that Episode was this gate-sized Deathglider *knight* *notes it on to-build list*). Every series has its great episodes and also some really bad ones (think e.g. of the whole first season of Star Trek Voyager), and there is always the chance that somebody watches one of the weaker ones as the first episode... Stargate IS a great series, it has cool action, great character design, cool sets and props and a really deep and also "realistic and believable" (regarding it's a Sci-Fi series) story. It sure is worth to give it a try, and there sure is more than enough low-quality stuff on TV one could drop one or two times to watch some episodes of Stargate instead! ;-) Quote
Peoples_General Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 I've only ever watched one episode which was on last Sunday. And one of them got shot, but was around in ancieant Egypt. It's not my favourite sci-fi... but it's better than I expected. That was Moebius 1 & 2, it was a rerun of a Season 8 episode. It was one of those "time travel" episodes. The Puddle Jumper is a shuttle type craft that the Ancients built. The Ancients are the most advanced civilization in the SG universe, and are supposed to have hit the apex of technology... They were the builders of the StarGates. The finale for the 9th season was about 2 weeks ago (3/10); OMG, what a finale that was!!! WOW! This episode defined just how powerful the new enemy is. But then again, they should be that powerful considering who and what they are... ("evil" versions of the Ancients). July will start the 10th season. Anyhow, StarGate is set in the modern day and they have an angle in the show itself that this is supposed to be a secret govt. program in real life. The 100th episode kinda jabs at this angle the show has, by having a so-called TV show about exploring the universe through a star gate and they called it "Wormhole Extreme". I imagine they'll do something thats actually monumental, rather than spoof-like for the upcoming 200th esisode in the 10th season. WARNING SPOILERS: Anyone who clicks on this will be viewing a clip of the last 6mins of the Seaon 9 finale (ep. #20). I managed to win over new StarGate fans by showing off this clip. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=a6TKo99...F2D21E3B8538FE6 Quote
snefroe Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 hm... i've seen several atlantis episodes and i don't really like it. the characters are boring, the stories seem to be repeating themselves. it reminds me of the last star trek series: it's lost the dynamics of the other series, it doesn't really add anything to it, same old story, basically, but not as good... I recommend watching StarGate: SG-1 over Atlantis. Atlantis is OK, IMO, but SG-1 is still far far superior. I think that Atlantis' main function as a series in in the end, it'll to bring the Atlantis City-Ship to Earth. The Wraith... as interesting as the "Space-Vampires" are, they are no more advanced than the Goa'uld. Now the Ori, THAT is a powerful evil and a true enemy. Quote
Wolf04 Posted March 31, 2006 Posted March 31, 2006 I wasn't really a Stargate SG-1 fan until Stargate Atlantis came out. From then on, I watch both series. I download all the episodes each week (since the new ones are shown only on satellite and channels I don't have). I'm more of an Atlantis fan than SG-1. I've followed the story of Atlantis from beginning and I find the plot more intriguing. Glad to see that others around here also watch the shows. On the side note, anyone a Prison Break fan? Quote
Echo Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 On the side note, anyone a Prison Break fan? If you wish to discuss Prison Break, please make another topic for it. ;-) I haven't ever seen Stargate, but my brother watches it. Quote
Wolf04 Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 On the side note, anyone a Prison Break fan? If you wish to discuss Prison Break, please make another topic for it. ;-) Yea...you'd think I'd know since I've been around for a much longer time but I was asking at a side to see if anybody watches it. It would be pointless to make a topic about it if hardly or nobody watches it. ----------------------------------------------------- On topic, when are the new seasons starting? Quote
Peoples_General Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Season 10 for SG-1, and Season 3 for Atlantis are starting on July 14th I think. BTW, the guys at MGM are now thinking of a 3rd incarnation aka 2nd spin-off of a StarGate series. The 2nd spinoff is supposed to follow up after the second StarGate theatre movie. Quote
UltraPrime Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I love SG1. I'm actually a bit behind at the moment, as I started watching buy buying the boxsets. I only started SG1 S8 and Atlantis S1 last night! Quote
Jipay Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 I am also a huge fan. Too bad the game was cancelled ! Quote
Vader Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Yeah i was looking forward to that too, oh well as long as the show goes on ill be happy. I love seeing how powerful the enemy is but like all sci fi shows the enemy is built up only to be swept aside by the good guys at the last min, i remember seeing the borg in ST:TNG for the first time and how powerful they were but nowadays they are treated like just another enemy that the federation is able to beat. The latset version of Battlestar Galactica shows how an enemy should be portrayed, in that series the good guys are allways on the back foot. Quote
Jipay Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 SG1 used ot be that way ! The nice thing is that it took many seasons to defeat the goaulds, and only because earth get all those nice techs ! The thing I don't like is that in some episode, we saw some really powerfull races that never showed up again. This is definitly too bad ! Quote
Vader Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 Oh i agree its been far to long since we saw alot of those powerful races, one thing that also bothers me is how quickly they developed the new starships. I know they had alot of alien tech but i would of been happier if it had taken alot longer to build them. Quote
