Kikuichimonji Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 (edited) Ladies and gentleman, I give you my second version of the Jeopardy. I doubt I ever changed this much for a version 2. First thing I did was removing the scimitars everyone (including me) didn't really like. I like the way it looks now a lot better. Then, I changed the front and back. I tried to keep them curved but the lack of pieces useful for this made me change it. I added some extra detail to the main engines because I thought they were rather plain. And finally, I changed the wing connector thingie. Which took almost twice as long as the rest of the ship because it was really hard to get it right. I'm still not too much of a fan of it, but it look better already. Front shot. The new wing connectors. The palm tree truck has one of those jewel pieces in it and is supposed to be an engine. The thing up front is a gun (but that should be rather obvious). The new solution for where the scimitars were. You can also see the jewel mentioned before. Gallery Old version on EB Let me know what you think :-) EDITED BY YODA: your links did not work Kiku so I fixed them ;-) Edited May 10, 2006 by xwingyoda Quote
SuvieD Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Very nice improvments. The engines look fuller, the side guns a little nicer with the tube the area behind the cockpit is fuller and better greebled. I really like the replacement for the swords. The new guns and engines look very good. Getting rid of the little side guns was an improvement. What I don't like is the pointed nose. I prefered the rounded one much better. Everything about your ship is rounded, the engines, the cockpit, your guns, everything in general is shaped toward the rounded and not the angular. I would have left the round front or designed a different one. Maybe using 2 of these and then behind them to tapper the whole thing in toward the cockpit a matching set of these. I like how you made the engine supports bigger but I still think you need at least an extra brick width in front for armor in just the middle sections. It should overlap to cover those hinges which would be my target if I was going to attack. The seem too fagile and undefended. This is what I would change but you may like it just the way it is. I didn't see an under shot but I don't think this has landing gear which you might want to add. I think the version two is better than version one by far. A nice fighter ship overall and other than my few little nitpicks it has been built very well. Nice! *y* Quote
snefroe Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 very nice improvements indeed! i'm undecided about the nose. the round nose gave it a "retro look" and that's gone now, but on the other hand the pointed nose clearly suggests it's an upgraded version... i love ships with this devellopment background, they started as a very small tiny project and grew into a fully capable starfighter... hehe... wonder what the third will look like.... oh yes, Suvie is right. you need landing gear! Aredhel Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 This looks really better than the first version. Just like SuvieD said: the engines look fuller and so a lot better. *y* Quote
JoeMI6 Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Very good, it looks alot more like a ship, as you can see the inner workings and the like as they are more visible. Quote
Jipay Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 I must have missed the first version, but this ship looks really great, and I especially like the fact that you used a grey/yellow theme. Those are my favoryte colors when it come to space :'-) Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Wow, all the new greebling makes it look even more aggressive, I'd take one against the TIE army any day ;-) Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 What a neat ship Kiku !!! I must admit this version II is a lot better !!! I love the Gems as engines end !!! I would consider minor mods on the rear (thas only what I think Kiku ;-) ): I would change the trans yellow parts (cylinders and gems) by another color to brake up the monotony of colours and I would add one stud higher where the yellow meet the grey because of the minor gap between the two rows of yellow 1x1 slopes (I would just add 2 1x2 yellow parts) !! Great ship Kiku !!!! And Sarg, watch out for the Tie Army my TAWT friend :-P *yoda* Quote
ApophisV Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 Great improvements! *y* The front doesn't really appeal to me though. The round shape of the first version was much better in my opinion. As Suvie I would suggest a more bulky and round shaped front instead of the pointed one. And there is one other thing: By making the front hull longer the wings seem to sit exactly at the middle of the ship's sides. In the old version they seemed to be attached closer to the front than to the rear which made the overall shape looking like some "two bladed fork". Now its more looking like a "standard design" because the wings are sitting on the place you most probably would expect spaceship wings to sit which makes the new Jeopardy looking less original. Try to put the wings 2 or 3 studs more in direction of the front and make the front itself shorter - you will get an really cool, unique and agressive looking fighter! Well, enough grumbled, you surely also need some positive feedback now ;-) First of all: I completely have to disagree with Yoda's "the monotony of colours" comment since I really love the color scheme! Grey, Darkgrey and Yellow look just beautiful together! Generally you made the ship more bulkier which is just brilliant! One can clearly see the idea behind such a craft: "Let's build a powerful, fast and heavily armed and armored ship to kick some badasses and don't care for the look, it's a flying tank, not a Ferrari!!!" I'd rather buy this ship than a cute chrome Naboo Yacht thing >:-) The weapons are as perfect as before, those additional guns are looking as great as the main guns! Man, I love those technic-technique! ;-) Finally, the greebling is also well done! I esepcially like those small yellow dragon-wing-helmet pieces! :-D Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 8, 2006 Posted March 8, 2006 I completely have to disagree with Yoda's "the monotony of colours" comment since I really love the color scheme! Grey, Darkgrey and Yellow look just beautiful together! I love the grey/yellow colour scheme !!!! Its just I think the dark blue engine parts would look better (like on the EP3 JSFs ;-) ) !! *yoda* Quote
The Hordesman Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 "A darn good looking yellow and grey fighter built by Kikuichimonji that uses cogs and still looks great." "What is Jeopardy Mk. II?" "Correct!" "Over to the 1000$ question." Hehe, I think I dont need to say much more... But I do think something on the front would be nice, theres alot of small stuff and details on the rest, leaving this area to stand out a little. ;-) Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 9, 2006 Author Posted March 9, 2006 Heh, thanks guys :-$ I might do one more update on this, switching the front back. I have a little idea to make it curved while maintaining a good look ;-) And I have to agree that darkblue engines would look better, but I don't own darkblue MF heads and to place yet another BL order for this....nah... And the click hinges, well, I'm not gonna bother changing them anymore. I toyed around with it for hours and settled fot this. I'd rather build something new then waste another hour on those click hinges. And landing gear might be added for versio 3 as well. Problem is, it's pretty hard to hide it since there is no room for it to be 'stored' inside of the ship when in flight because they're is no room for such a thing. Point is, I'll likely update it once more, and after that I'll do another fighter. I've fallen in love with this color scheme so you can expect more grey/darkgrey/yellow fighters ;-) I just need more yellow... |-/ Quote
Kikuichimonji Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 In a shameless act of double-posting, I give you Mk. III: Final version...I've had it with this ship. I'll break it down sometime next week and build something new, likely using the same color scheme. Not much changes for this version: I've changed the front to a curved one again, while keeping the building technique used for the second version. I've also added some (very simple) landing gear. Expect a new MOC within a week ;-) Oh, and there's more pictures in my BS when moderated. Link in sig. Quote
SuvieD Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Simple is good! ;-) I give this final version an 8/10. I would have like some more sturdy looking wings but as this is just my opinion I only take off 1 point. The other missing point is due to the fact that nothing is perfect. Certainly an awesome ship and one I would buy as a LEGO set. Your landing gear is more than sufficient. This ship is a fighter not a huge cargo tanker. That and it looks good. Quote
