I suggest they should have made it Han. THEN it would be perfect for re-enacting the Hoth scene.... wait! they should do a whole do-over, and put the wampa and taun-taun and Luke/Han all in one set....

And then people would want a transparent Obi-Wan! This is a nice little set, but (even though it's the name of it) the snowspeeder and minifigs seem more like the main focus.

What makes Zev "Zev?" The name on the box? It's just a minifig in an orange jump suit. Throw a lightsaber in his hands and he's Luke, change the name on the package and he's Wedge...

And they all sell for different prices on Bricklink.

The helmet printing. like real world fighter pilots, they each have their own custom helmets.

Finally a review of this set! :cry_happy:

I found the string-on-cardboard weird too..

I might grab this set after getting the Slave 1

and if the cad bane speeder is not so good.

BTW, I'm loving the fried chicken

Great pics and review! Don't have a SnowSpeeder so this is a must set for me. I like the Wampa and the cave but wish the cave had more depth/parts and the SnowSpeeder had more details and maybe it should be a bit larger vehicle. Not sure of the retail price in the US is but I'm hoping it's around $25-$30us.

Also, is it me or is Zev and Luke just seem like generic minifigs. What distinguishes Zev and Luke here? Makes it seem like the Hoth Battle pack with Zev was silly. If he's gonna' be here with his SnowSpeeder (makes sense) why was he at all in the Battle Pack? Why not just have another Hoth rebel instead.

As far as pricing goes it is daylight robbery. I had a look on Amazon.fr and 46.90 Euros is very expensive (especially if you compare it to the Plo Koon's fighter that sells for 26.30).

Exactly my idea. 46,90€ is completely insane. :hmpf_bad: And the only new thing is the Wampa.

If I had interest in a snowspeeder I would grab them off ebay.

@LegoDad42: You are hoping to get it for 25$? *huh* Look at the price tags again.

Good revieuw, but at the end of the day this set isn't quite as cool as I expected. Luke doesn't look that mush like Luke, that new head design is not an improvement. The Wampa is okay, but it doesn't feel that Legoisch and the way he's holding that chicken bone, it's like he's pretending to be somekind of upperclas Englisch lord, Sir Wampa...

Nice Review

I Don't have a SnowSpeeder either so this should be a must set for me... though i really found it expensive... I would have preferred an improved Snowspeeder...

Thanks for the nice review!

I like the set, but the price is horrible! I mean, look at the small size of this set, this should be for 30€ or so... 47€? No way!

Thanks for the review but this is definitely not a set worth of it's prize- especially since i have old Snowspeeder and bp:s :sceptic: Wampa isn't that bad that i first thought but i don't have much use for wampa anyway :hmpf_bad: - i want Rancor from ROTJ :vader: TLG has to do it if they are really going to end licence next year- i want rancor :sing:

Thanks for the pictures schlaouich! I was planning on buying this set just for the wampa and snowspeeder, and seeing other views of the cave makes me hold true to the fact. I missed out on the Hoth Rebel Base, so I'm glad that there's another chance at getting a snowspeeder. :sweet:

Just wondering though, did TLG always wrap their strings around cardboard? I never saw that before. :look:

$40 USD according to FBTB.

About $5-10 too much but I'll still end up getting it. I think LEGO preys on people like me.

Looks good-- I always wanted a true Hoth Luke, and the collection would never be complete without the Wampa. But what pray tell am I supposed to do with FOUR SNOWSPEEDERS???? I've got a whole fleet here!

Have you seen those people collecting 500 or more Stormtroopers? Either you like it or not.

Or let me say it differently: get an AT-AT and blast it to pieces with your squadron!

Back to topic: the speeder has gone through some strange design changes again - but is still not as "ok" as 4500 I think. I am really disappointed we didn't get the new "Hoth Officer" torso in the BP and TLC was throwing the 11 year old version in.. sigh. I guess I speak for some here that I don't need that cave and a stickered inferior Snowspeeder, but Luke and Wampa are nice. Either BL the whole bunch or wait for a 30€ish price. That's my thought about it in the moment.

What would have let me do a more positive decision: price, Tauntaun, better SS

I want it for the speeder and luke. I will sell off the Wampa. for me this is an average set but will go well with the hoth base.

Anyone have a side by side of all the snow speeders lego ever made?

Thank you very much for this great review, schlaouich! :classic:

I voted for

above average

since this is imo a great set - but there are two cons which make it not outstanding:

Con:

-no Tauntaun

-again Zev Scenesca (This character/minifigure is great, but TLG should either have included it in the BP or in this set - but not in both!)

Pro:

-Snowspeeder would be not necessary, but is a good addition for playability

-great style of the cave

-finally a Wampa

-finally a Hoth Luke minifigure

I simply LOVE this set.....

Sure it's short on extras an the like but it's got a WAMPA!! It's a bit overpriced but I will by it none-the-less.....

Well, in pure cheapskate fashion, after seeing the price is going to be $40 (just discovering this now? what, have I been sleeping under a rock? I just wasn't paying attention), I'll stick with my cheapskate Snow Speeder and leave it at that.

I guess the only thing I'll be buying is the Slave-1, no matter how stupid the cost is.

I'm glad I'm just not that big of a SW LEGO fan.

Thanks for the review! IMO this set is a must have if only to complete a system type diorama. I love the Hoth Luke & I have always been a fan of the snowspeeder. The Wampa while cartoonyish is still a great addition for any collector and is (again IMO) an iconic part of the OT. & can you ever really have too many Zev Senesca's? I think not!

Well, the main point of this set for me are the minifigs and Snowspeeder (still haven't got one yet!). The cave could be better, but still is very useful.
