Thanks 'Brickaroo' for your comment, I guess it's like Sim City - though I have never used it ever on a computer.

More stuff will be done tomorrow and posted a.s.a.p. !

If you haven't played Sim City you haven't lived life!

It's never too late to give it a go, and with your interest in city building I get the feeling you'd rather like it.

This is a brilliant layout and good to read through and see all the progress.

I wish the actual town near me looked like that, its all estate agents and nail/hair salons ;)

I also like the way you've clearly done the research as to dimensions etc. I make 3D models (non-lego) and have done a few stores and always try to get them as detailed as possible.

All the best

Thanks Matt for your kind comments, I too used to in my younger days while working with HO scale made 3D buildings for my model layout. Here now I find Lego that handy building product that all my creations come to life. Keep an eye out - like I said - more to come !

I haven't looked at this in a while, and I've got to say, great job! The Target store is now one of my favourites along with the sports store

Thanks 'prateek' for those kind words - always great hearing from you ! :sweet:

I guess I can start planning the next building - a good old Aussie pub with hardwood floor boards in it - real old school design too !

G'day everyone, I need a little hand here....street names....I don't have any, so any suggestions I would ever so grateful.

So, right now we have completed, a service station, bank, post office, hardware store with garden centre, a toy shop, chemist and menswear store on one street facing a river bank.

On the street that intersects with that one, the same menswear store, small grocery store, Target Country department store, then add a pub (yet to be built). Oppersite side of that street is the motorcycle dealer, a new tyre dealer (yet to be built), possible other buildings are a fish'n'chip shop, bakery, butchers shop, real estate office, paint store, auto parts store and stock agents office.

Whew, there may never be any end to this town.....any suggestions and remarks welcome as always and as usual.....I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

Perhaps New Mannum would utilise some of historic streets named after paddle steamers:

Marion Way: P.S. Marion built 1897-Restored by volunteers: currently moored as part of the dock museum still does regular cruises during the year.

Mary Ann St: P.S. Mary Ann built 1853- owned by William Randell. The boiler is housed in the Mannum Dock Museum, a replica sits in the Mary Ann Reserve.

Gemini St: Twin Hull P.S. Gemini built 1855 owned by W Randell was twin hull, the larger being the hull of the Mary Ann. Randell had the wheel built in the middle so as to avoid snags ripping the floats. This steamer was used to explore the Darling River Feb 24th 1859 it reached Brewarrina. On the return journey when nearing Wentworth it struck a snag and partly sank, cargo floated in the water. Bunyip St: Twin Hull P.S. Bunyip built 1859 owned by W Randell and John Taylor in 1862 was converted into a stern-wheeler. Randell made his famous trip to Walgett in this steamer, the first to reach there. Later she was tragically lost by fire.

Bogan St: Barge the Bogan built 1859 owned by F Cadell registered 1864 W Randell had engine refitted, broke up 1904

Ariel St: P.S.Ariel (aerial) built 1867 by R.Graham at Goolwa owned by W Randall who towed her to Mannum to have the engine installed, and used her for trading up the Darling. She was snagged badly several times, and on one occasion had to be towed from Wentworth to Mannum to go on the slip for repairs.

Tyro St: P.S. Tyro built 1872 at Goolwa. Later rebuilt at Mannum. Randell and his son Capt R.M. Randell and Capt Anderson were joint owners. In 1897 she blew up at Mannum but was successfully repaired and finally owned by William Randell’s son, who used her as a passenger and mail steamer running between Murray Bridge, Mannum and Forster for many years.

Corowa St: P.S. Corowa built 1876 by James Anderson at Moama.

Ruby St: P.S. Ruby built 1876 especially for low water. She was snagged near Wentworth in 1880 and took six weeks to refloat her. In 1888 she was enlarged and had electric lights installed.

Waradgery St: P.S. Waradgery built 1865 at Moama she was a stern wheeler, and gave her name to Waradgery Reef above Koondrook, where she experienced some trouble negotiating the channel there. She was owned by W Randell in 1888.

Mannum St: Barge Mannum built 1871 byJames Nutchey at Mannum owned by W Randell converted to steamer 1919 by JG Arnold of Mannum

I have personally have travelled on the P.S. Marion and the P.S. Industry based at Renmark.

Famous steamers, yes plus I must also consider famous people involved in early South Australian development too I guess.

Well my thinking cap has to go on eh ?

This is great to all the MOCs coming together in your own Aussie town. Looks really good. so far.

Thanks you 'Ferdik' for your kind words, tomorrow I be working on more pavement (stuff that's missing) and at least one truck (might be the Mitre 10 hardware delivery truck), updating again hopefully tomorrow. :sweet:

Getting better and better all the time.

I especially like the Australia Post, the Toyworld and the Target Country.

Love the Mitre 10 also (I wish I had been able to do decals for my Bunnings store that I made a few years back)

Seeing your MOCs and the relavent decals has made me even more inclined to produce GOOD decals for my MOCs somehow (although my Canon Pixma printer isn't very good for that task)

Oh my, this is looking fantastic! I love the detail on the buildings, and though they looked beautiful separately bringing them together like this makes them truly shine! Beautiful work mate, simply beautiful, and definitely and truly keep bricking!:classic:

Also, once again I put up the reference of Crocodile Dundee Ave.

Thanks for the great comments 'Fires-Storm' ! :sweet:

Now, an avenne named after Mick D. eh ?

If this was set in North Queensland or the Northern Territory then yes, but keep any suggestions comming as there a road lead off the main street/avenne and a street leading off that one and of course the main highway running past the service station.

That IGA is cool, my dad used to own one when he first moved out here to California. Awww, memories!

I notice all your buildings are small. I'm guessing that's what the town(s) are like that you're making this after. Pretty cool and nice job!

Thank you 'Legocrazy81' for your kind comments, yes I designed my buildings either in city corner style, classic all brick style or a fusion of both.

More comming, oh,yeah.......in front of the IGA there will be a park with a statue, public toliet, etc, across the road from it.

Love the IGA truck/store! I haven't seen one of those in my area for a good 10 years. Ah the memories. That roadside construction vehicle in the beginning is cool too. Great progress!

Some of you have been wondering how big this town of mine is going to be, remember it's still a BIG W-I-P......

new_mannum_town_centre_26-10-10.jpg

Tiing and road plates still needed to be done, plus the park and a few more buildings too !

Now some other shots......

new_mannum_town_centre_26-10-10_1.jpgnew_mannum_town_centre_26-10-10_2.jpgnew_mannum_town_centre_26-10-10_3.jpg

Yep, it's huge.....just add another 64 studs heading away from the BP servo and likewise from the park ! *oh2*

Plus another 32 studs at least heading away from the pub !

So you can see I'm still a long way off finishing my town.....like this is just the town centre......the industrial park and truck stop (council depot is in the industrial park) and don't forget the riverbank and a big surprise.....not even I know what that is yet ?

Comments welcome and keep on....well, yeah....bricking ! :sweet:

Really loving the streetscape Tiger, the attention to detail is second to none. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of trees. It looks very stark without some shade providing foliage along the road, like red gums or even oaks, typical of an Australian small town main street.

Hi, what a fantasting MOC! I have been looking around in this forum recently and I really, really like your town. Up until now, we have only bought new sets for our son, but being a lego fan myself, I really would like to start bricking and MOCing myself. What great detail do you have in your moc. Just fantastic!

I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind. How do you get your stickers? Do you make them yourself? And do you make your buildings to fit on one plate and lay your street before them and tile those (and the pieces you are not building on on your plate?) And how do you scale your buildings. Is there a specific technique?

Well, thanks for sharing your great moc and I'll be looking forward for your next photo's!

Thanks 'pinioncorp' and 'uitzetter' for your kind comments.

Now trees, well you'll have to wait for the park and riverbank to be done.

Now scale, minifig of course - but the building style is in four different era's - the IGA store pre-1930's classic brickbuilt - Mensland store post 1930's/Target Country 40's/50's -Mitre 10 hardware store around the 1960's using newer panel assembly - finally the post office, bank, chemist & Toyworld store 2009 city corner style construction.

Stickers are created on a Canon inkjet printer, MS paint for any changes in size/colour/shape of the image gained from photo/image search engines like Google Images.

I hope that helps, any more details you wish to know just PM me.
