Orson Zedd Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) Honestly? There needs to be a lot more racial diversity in the minifigs. I love Bright Yellow as much as the next guy, but really, I'd like to have some African Minifigs that weren't from licensed sets. Especially in the Collectible Minifig sets. I imagine the yellow's supposed to be sort of race neutral, but maybe there should be a wider range of colors, not even necessarily fleshtones. Gender: Male Occupation: Hipster Type of Headgear: Ponytail Type of Facial Expression: semi-frown, with goatee and stubble. Color: Body has an ironic expression on it. He says he got it for a dollar, but it's really 35 bucks. His leg pieces have a blue print, but they have holes and are acid washed. Accessory: Backpack, laptop. He steals Wifi from cafes where he doesn't usually buy anything. Edited February 8, 2011 by Orson Zedd Quote

I have only two black heads, Lando Calrissian and the TCW Mace Windu. A larger variety of colors would be great. Therefore I'd really like: Gender: Male Occupation: Gangster Rapper Type of headgear: black Hoodie Type of facial expression: Angry Color: Brown head, black Hoodie print on torso, patched trousers Accessory: Shotgun, Mike Gender: female Occupation: Bavarian/Octoberfest-waitress Type of headgear: Pigtails Type of facial expression: Happy Color: Green-white dirndl dress Accessory: Two big glasses of beer Quote
tazosaure Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 (edited) I've been collecting a few more ideas in my heads over the past few weeks, I thought I would share them (properly formatting them this time) so here they are: The following 2 suggestions are inspired by classic fables and fairytales (I'm still waiting for an actual fairy :P) Name: pied piper Gender: male Headgear: hat, same as forestman from series 1 but red with a big green plume Face: o shaped mouth as in playing the flute Torso: very colorful, maybe similar to the kingdom's juggler but in red and yellow Legs: one leg of each of the main color present on the torso Accessories: a green cape, a piper flute and a rat Name: little red riding hood Gender: female Headgear: hood, like the one on Lego Obi-Wan Kenobi but in red Face: cheerful Torso: white corset Legs: yellow, with red fabric skirt Accessories: short red cape and picnic basket After the talk we had on Lego minifig parity I was thinking it would be nice to get a female warrior, the minifig series brought us a great deal of very nice warriors but so far it's a definitely a boys club. Several people have already suggested an Amazon Warrior and I definitely second that, but I would also like to see the following: Name: female knight (ala Joan of Arc) Gender: female Headgear: short hair Face: fiesty Torso: female armure, silver Legs: sliver Accessories: sword The following figs are part of an idea I had for sub theme around US icons that was partly inspired by Dunjohn's statue of liberty suggestion Name: uncle sam Gender: male Headgear: top hat with vertical red and white stripes and blue ribbon with white stars at the bottom Face: serious, white eyebrows and white goatee beard Torso: white shirt, blue jacket and red bowtie Legs: vertical red and white stripes Accessories: a dollar bill Name: rosie the riveter Gender: female Headgear: red and white dot scarf hat (knot in front) on black hair Face: serious Torso: blue jean shirt Legs: blue jeans Accessories: a pneumatic rivet hammer and a classic metallic lunch box Name: park ranger Gender: male Headgear: campaign hat in tan Face: smiling Torso: tan shirt with short black tie and park badge of the left arm Legs: dark green Accessories: binoculars and 2x2 tile with printed terrain map Name: hollywood heyday actress Gender: female Headgear: blonde pin-curls hairdo (ala marylin monroe) Face: sensual, bright red lips and beauty mark Torso: white dress (see marilyn famous wind blowing picture) Legs: white dress (see marilyn famous wind blowing picture) Accessories: either a gem (diamonds are a girls best friend) or golden trophy from the series 2 karate master (as an oscar) or a printed 2x2 round tile printed to look like a movie reel Name: greaser Gender: male Headgear: oversized pompadour/ducktail hair (black) Face: smirk Torso: black leather jacket open with white shirt Legs: black Accessories: comb Name: superhero Gender: male or female Headgear: none if male, long blonde hair if female Face: red eyemask, smiling Torso: red with a gold lego brick logo in the center Legs: red legs with gold waist Accessories: long gold cape Name: daredevil (ala evel knievel) Gender: male Headgear: white open face helmet (aka 3/4 helmet) with blue ribbon with stars Face: crazy Torso: white, slightly ajar top with same blue ribbon with stars Legs: white Accessories: 2 color cape, white on the outside, red on the inside Finally these are more random ideas that I put down as they popped into my mind: Name: beauty queen/pageant Gender: female Headgear: ponytail with tiara Face: big smile showing teeth Torso: corset with miss ribbon on top Legs: yellow legs, waist matching corset color Accessories: a flower bouquet Name: Lego store clerk Gender: female (but could be male too I guess) Headgear: straight black hair Face: smiling Torso: black shirt and yellow apron with Lego logo on it Legs: tan pants Accessories: yellow shopping bag with Lego logo Name: party animal Gender: female (but could be male too I guess) Headgear: multicolored conical party hat Face: ecstatic Torso: any Legs: any Accessories: balloon Name: brazilian carnival dancer Gender: female Headgear: huge gold and green feather with black hair underneath Face: smiling with makeup Torso: fancy necklace, green and gold bikini top, abs Legs: yellow legs, green waist/bikini bottom Accessories: green and yellow feather wings (fits around the neck like the classic plastic cape) Name: valentine date Gender: male Headgear: clark gable hair Face: in love Torso: suit Legs: black Accessories: rose I'm also putting my vote behind the multiple request for a scot/bagpipe player and for a counter part to the series 1 nurse, ideally even we would need 3 counter parts : a surgeon and 2 patients, one in wheelchair and one in crutches (forearm crutches would fit lego minifig hands perfectly), one of the patient could also have a open face helmet fully printed with bandages as if he hurt his head badly. I imagine the yellow's supposed to be sort of race neutral, but maybe there should be a wider range of colors, not even necessarily fleshtones. Yellow minifigs represent all races, as the Tribal Hunter and Tribal Chief minifigures demonstrate (along with the Indians in the Wild West theme). LEGO only once put a minifigure with brown skin among yellow-skinned minifigures-- the Cloud City set, with Lando Calrissian. Presumably they figured people wouldn't recognize the character otherwise. The problem with this, however, is that it basically established white skin as equivalent to the "default" skin tone, with other races just "variants". Since then, they've gone the more politically-correct route of having any licensed theme use realistic skin tones, and any non-licensed theme have yellow skin regardless of race. And so far, it's worked out just fine. A wider range of colors would be OK, but I can't think of any colors LEGO currently has out that could work as a "darker-skinned" version of the classic yellow. And again, it would still be establishing the classic yellow "default" skin tone as equivalent to a particular human skin tone, which would cause the same problems as before with the Cloud City set. I'm willing to bet people could make the assumption that yellow = Caucasian without licensed sets. You could have Red or Pink and Medium Blue minifigs too, and then you'd just assume yellow is another LEGO people color and doesn't really represent a real world race. Oh, incidentally and somewhat on and off topic, I rather liked the Army Men set from Toy Story, and on review, it doesn't seem like any company owns the rights to the little plastic army men toys I bought in buckets as a kid. So, Tan, Sand Blue, and, maybe, Pearl Gray factions of army people would be awesome. Might even be a way to make war themed sets without being really violent about it. Sure, it looks like a Mitsubishi Zero, but it's clearly completely tan. There's no way that's a bad guy. Otherwise, they could just sell the minifigs and accessories and those cool bases. Quote
Jargo Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I use the dark flesh and brown heads and hands but everything else is yellow. as far as I'm concerned yellow covers every nationality besides black/asian/mixed race. light flesh is too pink anyway. If it was somewhere towards tan I might consider that a new fleshtone worthy of replacing yellow. In the same spectrum as brown, dark flesh and yellow. Pinky flesh is too distinct and alien for the world of Lego in general. Back on topic, I added more doodle designs to my CM gallery. Link in my signature. Quote
vexorian Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) If LEGO added race differentiation to non-licensed minifigs it would be Ruined Forever for me. Gender: Male Occupation/print on torso: Airport/Plane Fireman Type of headgear: None Type of facial expression: Brave Color on torso/legs: Red, a nice looking fireman uniform. Accessory: The Hazard suit, in silver I'm willing to bet people could make the assumption that yellow = Caucasian without licensed sets. I doubt it. I bet that yellow forces kids not to think of their races but allows them to identify with the figs. I am not Caucasian and it worked when I was a kid. Edited February 10, 2011 by vexorian Quote

Mr. Elijah Timms Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) What an unpleasant thing to say. Boo hiss sir. Boo hiss. Didn't mean to offend anyone-- all I meant is that sooo many suggestions on the last few pages are re-hashes of the same idea again and again. Bagpiper. Judge. Hippie. Yes, all awesome ideas, but in the life of this thread, they are nothing new. As some of you may have seen, I recently went through this entire thread to find what Series 3, 4, and 5 figs have been already mentioned in here by EB members. What I found was that many of them were suggested by several people, so the list I compiled focused on the first person to suggest, say, a gnome. I also found, that as of late, the quantity of never-before-seen suggestions were dwindling. All I was implying was that tazosaure's post above featured some of the freshest and most original ideas I've read here in some time. Thought he deserved a shout-out. All apologies if you took offense. Edited February 10, 2011 by Mr. Elijah Timms Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) I've been meaning for a while to post in here, but haven't gotten around to it before now. It doesn't seem to matter; lots of the things I originally meant to suggest have now already been proposed by others, and/or already been implemented as actual minifigures (released or upcoming) by TLG. I see a director has already been mentioned, but I want to note a specific directorial archetype I'd like to see: Gender: male Occupation/print on torso: Movie director (old-fashioned, 1920s stereotypical style a la Erich von Stroheim) Type of headgear: beret Type of facial expression: driven, dictatorial, shouting (face possibly with goatee, moustache and/or monocle) Color on torso/legs: white shirt torso (with lens worn from cord around neck?), brick-yellow or nougat legs (printed to look like jodhpurs?) Accessory: megaphone (perhaps with clapperboard? director's chair?) And one more I'm really surprised wasn't mentioned until just yesterday (!); I was just posting my own version of the following: Name: Lego store clerkGender: female (but could be male too I guess) Headgear: straight black hair Face: smiling Torso: black shirt and yellow apron with Lego logo on it Legs: tan pants Accessories: yellow shopping bag with Lego logo ... to think that with all the time this thread has been open, one of the suggestions I finally came in here to make was made just the day before I made it! Argh. Anyway, here's my take - even with the previous suggestion I'm adding my own version, simply because I'd dearly love to see the accessory item I marked as "ideal": Gender: (either) Occupation/print on torso: LEGO Store Employee / uniform shirt, possibly w / yellow apron print, LEGO logo(s) where appropriate Type of headgear: (any nice hair element) Type of facial expression: Smiling / friendly / helpful Color on torso/legs: Black shirt, yellow apron? Accessory: Brick(s) / tile(s) printed as LEGO product packages, like the stickered elements in the current LEGO truck / Toys 'R' Us truck sets (ideal: one or more 1x1 tiles printed as LEGO collectible minifigure packets) Edited February 10, 2011 by Blondie-Wan Quote

Blondie-Wan Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I would be fine with the alternate accessory you suggest, plus I don't mind sharing the credits on this one if it ever materialize, so hopefully no hard feelings. Heck, I'm not even really after credit; I really just want the minifigure! I guess all the time spent at one's local LEGO Store frantically sorting through those boxes, holding a cheatsheet on one hand, feeling through a bag in the other, makes ones really appreciate the patience and friendliness of the LEGO Store employees They more than deserve being to be immortalized in minifig fomat! Indeed, I'd bet more than a couple of them would want copies of that one for themselves (I know a few employees at my local TRU were amused by the TRU truck, and wanted their own copies of it). I bet if TLG did a minifigure of one of their own store employees, it'd be a rare post-barcodes minifigure that store employees are willing to try to cherry-pick out of boxes. And yes, all the LEGO Store employees I've met have been exceedingly friendly and nice. TLG evidently knows how to hire good people... Quote

Haltiamieli Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 occupation:goat/human(I dont know what they are calledpic Fauns Such a fig would be great to have, but the goat legs could be a very hard piece to get to look right and not just stupid/unlegoish. Also second the snake-headed medusa that was mentioned a while ago, in addition to other mythical creatures like centaurs and minotaurs. Also also second the idea of Joan of Arc figure, that would kick some butt (if it was done better than Princess Storm, at least). Dunno if these have already been mentioned, it's some time since I read through this topic. I suppose these would probably fit better as impulse sets than as parts of the CMF series, though: Occupation/print on torso: medieval herald (a pic) Gender: male Type of headgear: the sort of saggy hat like in the pic, don't know what's its name Type of facial expression: Solemn Colour on torso/legs: A printed red-white tabard (extending to legs) with the Lion Kingdom sigil Accessory: a long trumpet (cf. the pic) with a Lion Kingdom flag attached Occupation/print on torso: medieval post rider / courier Gender: male Type of headgear: something medievalish? Type of facial expression: determined Colour on torso/legs: nothing too fancy or colourful, but still looking "official" Accessory: Well, he would kinda need a horse, which automatically rules out this being part of the CMF series, I suppose. Besides the horse, he should obviously have a post horn and some sort of bag for the letters. A post horn could be a little bit anachronistic I guess (apparently they were mostly used in 18th and 19th centuries), but who cares? Quote
