WhiteFang Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 If my vignette is similar to someone else's (i.e., based off a similar idea), can I still enter my vignette? I had no knowledge of the other entrants' creations prior to building mine. Hmm. I believed as the long the entry is not completely the same with the submitted entries, it's still fine. I've been lurking on here for a few months now after getting back into LEGO at the start of this year. At Christmas I bought the Mindstorms NXT set after seeing what it was capable of and that just sort of devolved backwards into building with normal LEGO again. I used to be obsessed with it when I was younger and am now clearly obsessed with it again after being inspired by the truly amazing MOCs that I've seen here and on other sites. I'm currently working on a spaceship, which started of small and is steadily growing in size. It's more of transport / cargo ship now than the sleek fighter it was intended to be ... Anyway, I got hold of some of the new minifigs and your contest was the perfect opportunity for me to have go at creating a vignette and post something online. Admittedly, my original idea didn't involve a cinema and didn't involve the Zombie, but somehow that's what I ended up creating. Hello Darkblane, welcome to Eurobricks. Good to see your introduction in here, why not head over here, so you can introduce yourself with the rest of the community. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 (edited) This is a brilliant contest! I love the Idea of making a vig for the fig without putting the fig in ! Can one make as many vigs as they want? or even multiple vigs for the same fig? I read the rules, but I'm not sure I understood the wording. I will definitely enter this contest! I've got a few Ideas and I'll be sure to post them as soon as I make them into concrete things! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Edited May 16, 2010 by Dannylonglegs Quote
Xenophilius Studz Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I have my entry ready. Its not that great, especially compared the others already. But its worth a shot. Tomorrow I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow/later. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Great entry Sandy! I love the Idea of the play Robin-Hood being watched! Your little details behind the curtain such as the lights, are really well placed! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Just a question--can I make my entry post-apocalyptic? Nothing fancy or futuristic, just some destroyed stuff. Quote
JimBee Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Great entries so far, everyone. I particularly like the museum display for the caveman. But I had a question regarding Peppermint M's entry: are we allowed to enter two vigs like that? Not to point fingers at her, but it does seem a little unfair if she gets two entries and everyone else gets one. Unless I am missing that the two are stacked on top of each other... Both are good looking, though. By the way, my rock concert stage has been posted. Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Just a question--can I make my entry post-apocalyptic? Nothing fancy or futuristic, just some destroyed stuff. As long it's something related to Town and City, go ahead with it. But I had a question regarding Peppermint M's entry: are we allowed to enter two vigs like that? However, I will like to emphasis that only one vig per entry for each member. Izzy, could you please make the adjustment accordingly? Right now, I have evaluated the first 3 entries and I will take a closer look at the rest of it later. At this moment, I only took a quick glance at the rest of the entries and there are some great stuff down there. Quote

Shadows Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Just a question--can I make my entry post-apocalyptic? Nothing fancy or futuristic, just some destroyed stuff. As long as it's something that could be set in a town, sure. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 What about a western or medieval town? Quote
Shadows Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 What about a western or medieval town? A western town is allowed, as long as it's kind of a modern situation, not a stagecoach robbery for example. No medieval towns. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 So I can basically say that this would be some recreation of a Wild West scene, but would I have to have a modern civilian in the scene? Quote

That's what I thought... just wasn't sure. Nice entry, BTW. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Capt. Stabbin, you might want to add a modern fig to that and call in the renaissance Fair, cause right now that's a great example of what not to do Sorry. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 It is only 1 8x8 base plate, with a second story! Thanks Izzy but could you take a clearer image of the overall vig or maybe I see if I can edit abit. So I can basically say that this would be some recreation of a Wild West scene, but would I have to have a modern civilian in the scene? As long the audience including myself is able to relate it to "Modern" Town or City perspectives, then you are fine. Capt. Stabbin, you might want to add a modern fig to that and call in the renaissance Fair, cause right now that's a great example of what not to do Sorry. I have informed Capt. Stabbin via pm earlier with regards to his entry. Thanks. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Ok, I guess you'll just have to wait and see! Also, I'm not so sure that tiggerkiddo's entry will work because you should be able t display the fig in the vignette. Quote

Thanks for the comments and clearing up the rules for me. Thanks, Capt Stabbin Quote
WhiteFang Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 Dear Participants, This time, Classic-Town.net is making a very dangerous "Zombies" coverage. Quote
Dunjohn Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) My original idea wouldn't work for me on an 8x8 base so I've come up with something new and substantially more ambitious. A slight problem is, it may be difficult to tell where exactly the minifig is supposed to be in it. Would it be possible to put in a "proxy" minifig (I'm thinking all-white) in one of the photos? If not, no biggie; I can always put the minifig into a fourth image in the linked album if I can't describe it clearly enough in text. Edited May 19, 2010 by Dunjohn Quote
Izzy Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 (edited) Thanks Izzy but could you take a clearer image of the overall vig or maybe I see if I can edit abit. Of course I can! I just ran and took that on my mobile as soon as I saw all the controversy I had caused. Hehe! I will take a good picture in the morning and add it to the rest in my photobucket album. EDIT: Changed previous link to a better photo. Edited May 20, 2010 by Inside Iz Quote
pedro Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Some superb entries already. Especially like Sandy's theatre and Xiaan's coin-op spaceship, inspired! I particularly like the museum display for the caveman. Ach! That was the first idea that sprung to my mind but legitimatealex beat me to it! Not sure if doing the same thing would be a bit unfair now. Will have to go back to the drawing board... Quote
Rick Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Sandy and Cutlass Iz are featured in today's special - the Forestman - on Classic-Town.net Quote

Nope, but you can link to a gallery that includes such a picture and mention that in your entry, as you would thinking, Dunjohn. Quote
