Hi people, since the PoP months is nearing its end, I think it's about time to introduce my diorama.

It's inspired to one of the last levels in the Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time videogame (just a bit scaled down).

Our Prince (who does not have a name in the videogame series) finds himself at the base of the Tower of Dawn, and has to climb it from the outside to reach the chamber where the Hourglass of Time is to seal it with the Dagger of Time (which is currently in the hands of Princess Farah...).

Let's start with a old-styled sepia picture of the overall diorama (the 5 bricks tall black border at the bottom is done on purpose to reproduce most videogames' black 'out of the playable' or 'beyond the death edge' pits):

pop_000.jpg

Detailing of the broken bridge and the tower portal were the level starts. Note the guards turned into sand creatures by the corruption of the Sands of Time:

pop_012.jpg

The Prince has to wall-run, jump, climb and jump again from one side of the tower to the other to reach the opening from which to enter the Hourglass chamber. Overall shot:

pop_008.jpg

The Hourglass chamber with the evil Vizier (who does not have a name, too; don't worry if you cannot make him out, he's better seen in the next pic):

pop_010.jpg

(you can see by the different colour, the whole project started with this chamber alone, and then developed with the rest of the tower...)

The Hourglass itself (I must un-modestly say that I'm very pleased with how this turned out  ):

pop_009.jpg

A shot of the Prince jumping from a beam to the other:

pop_004.jpg

And, to conclude, a shot of the fountain: the most precious spot in most level, since here is where the Prince can drink and so re-generate his health

The Brickshelf gallery, which contains more pics.

Hope you liked it. Comments and critics, especially by players of the game, are welcome.

I havent' played this game but your MOC is outstanding. I love the detailing below the bridge on all the rockwork. That's somethign that could ahve been easily overlooked.

The hourglass chamber looks great too, and all those poles sticking out so the prince can run across in a climactic way. Really great job, is this off of the new game? Or an existing one?

That is outstanding! )

I remember plaing the first part and the game amazed me by it's graphics and storyline. You did a great job! Your hourglass is indeed very beautiful, but what I like even more is the fountain. It reminded me how great it was to reach it (even during the battle sometimes) in the game. ) :classic:

And those sand zombies and their overscale weapons are a nice addition. ) :classic:

Thanks for that amazing MOC! )

Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) :classic:

waowww, it's really nice.

Does it belong to the contest ? :hmpf_bad:

Funny how we've worked in the same way to build a POP moc ! ;)

You're fond of sand creatures aren't you?

Amazing work! This is *huge* and you've kept it under wraps all this time :oh: I would have been tempted to flash bits just to show off if I was building this beast. That is one serious commitment of bricks!

I love how this is a diorama with cutaway access to the action scenes within, but also how the whole model works to follow the logic of the game  I love a good playable MOC and this fits the bill for sure!

Great creation, thanks for adding some magic to Prince of Persia month

I cant remember how much time i spent in this game so looong ago... but it was fun and i managed to finish it, including the last jump...

Nice job, i cant wait to see the film :classic:

omg... i absolutely love the hourglass... i tried making something similar (in green) late last year (for a MOC with Riddler); it didn't turn out to well so I scrapped it. but your idea and use of the glass dome piece is really good.

Having never played the game, I know nothing about the story line except what I have learned from the movie trailers but I do have the sets and this MOC is amazing for all its detail and little built in functions to capture scenes. The hourglass is absolutely amazing! Very cool and certainly a worthy front page entry.

AWESOME just AWESOME 'LuxorV' - what a MOC !

I haven't played the game neither, but my favorite part of your moc is the giant hour glass - so COOL !

Excellent work from you again and I'm a conformist! 'LuxorV' really I'm a conformist! ! :sweet:

This is awesome, LuxorV! Great MOC, wonderful resemblance to the games. Very cool indeed. I can see the Prince jumping from beam to beam, swingin' on the poles. Ah, awesome.

Thanks all for the positive feedback! And to Svelte for the big surprise; when I realised it was on FP, I was toattly speackless for about 5 minutes

Thank you. The rock work took me about 2 hours, and all my Bley, Brown and Green cheese slopes, but I'm really glad I made it. I think it is one of the most beautiful parts of the MOC by an aesthetics point of view :classic:

Well, I played the game just once few months ago (inspired to try it by the up-coming film), and I really enjoyed it, too. I added as much details as I remembered (I did not feel like re-playing all those levels to get to this one for a closer look  ) and I'm glad players do recognise and appreciate them.

As for the sand zombies and their overscale weapons, they were one of the first concept I developed along with the Hourglass and I played with their weapons a bit before getting to the half cartoon-ish style I wanted to get.

The game was released in 2003, and it's the first of a trilogy including two sequels, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (more dark and gothic) and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones (which I did not play, but sees the Prince turn into his sand-corrupted alter-ego in some parts), released in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

waowww, it's really nice.

Does it belong to the contest ? :hmpf_bad:

Unfortunately (or fortunately from another point of view), there is no Staff category in this contest, so no.

Well, great minds work in the same ways

As said before, the sand creatures where one of the first concepts I worked on. I really like the variety of 'designs' and skills they have in the game and I wanted to render part of them through our loved bricks!

You could not be more right about the 'under wraps' part: I completed this in one week after the theme month started, and kept it under a (white and green) wrap untill now, waiting for a Staff category to appear...

Well, at least, I get many good comments and do not have to see it fall befor better builders/opponents' MOCs :cry_happy:

I must now recognise I took a lot of wrong-angled photos. If I took some from the left side, you'd be able to see more of the 'studs-in-the-wall' pattern which indicates the way the Prince climbs the tower... Well, I hope you can get it well enough from the current ones nontheless.

If you're still going to make that Riddler's MOC, feel free to try this technique!

There is also a bit of story behind its design: I built it in my mind during a car travel (I wasn't driving!) to my grandmother and I had to wait a few days before I could see if it really worked in actual bricks. Fortunately, it did!

Having never played the game, I know nothing about the story line except what I have learned from the movie trailers but I do have the sets and this MOC is amazing for all its detail and little built in functions to capture scenes. Thanks again.

From what I've seen from the trailer and the LEGO sets, the stroy is quite different from the 2003's game with the same name, which is in its turn different from the original MS-DOS and Macintosh game

Woah. If you entered this in the contest, you would've won no doubt

I would not be so sure, with Hinckley and Svelte, as well as others like Erdy in an eventual Staff category.

WOW! That's really cool LuxorV! You've now inspired me to get the game! Love that hourglass!

-the General

Good, I'll ask Ubisoft to pass me a percentual on the sale, then

Wonderfull MOC! And I DID play the game! This brings back thoughts of so much lenghty playsessions, mostly with abundant 'save-game' loads etc.

All the jumping over pits with stakes in it, or preventing the enormously high falls, fighting with the differently coloured guardsmen...superb!

got a noob question for you if you don't mind. what color blue is featured at the bottom (housing the cheese slopes + sporadically across the entire piece)? also, is the color of the gate and the brick pieces near the bottom brown or purple (or what color)? would appreciate your reply!

Thanks Eskallon and Zorro for the feedback :sweet:

No, no; it's just a bad lighting effect on the photo  . You can see form the other pics that the bottom 5 bricks' rows are black, the rocks are either dark grey or dark bley, and the gate is (reddish) brown.

Quite unfortunately, that is the most complete pic I have, and the one chosen by Svelte for the frontpage; so I understand it may generate the strangest impressions about the colours I used

Hmm, a MOC based on a level in a game? I haven't (and won't) played the game, but it looks good. The hourglass is a nice addition.

The lighting confused me for a while, but it does look nice with the blue, in my opinion.
