paul_delahaye Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 I was also pleased to see this. As usual i see us Brits are being ripped off again by the exchange rate >:-( Model 7893 Passenger Plane USD Price $39.99 Euro Price
Jipay Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Go figure X-D In 3 years we were unable to get a decent answer by the lego company concerning the special exchange they use
Skinny Boy Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 I do think it is overpriced. I was thinking it was going to be around 70-80EURO. I guess i'll have to scrape a lot of money together to get this. >:-(
Jipay Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 See, that's the problem : you don't even think it's over priced. I spent 6 months in Canada and I bought so many sets there, including an ISD, something I would never have done if I have been in Europe. And that's a shame : for the same budget, we have 2/3 of the sets |-/

And that's a shame : for the same budget, we have 2/3 of the sets |-/ And even then, Canadian lego is overpriced compared to American lego. It seems that exchange rates don't exist with TLC. They just keep it the same forever. For example. when it's 49.99 USD, it should be about 59.99 CAD right now, but instead they find a way to jack it up to 79.99. for a 29.99 USD set, it should be 34.99, but instead it's 39.99, and in some cases, even 44.99 (like in the batmobile).
Graynar Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Agreed. Canada get's real bad LEGO prices up here. A 19.99 American set is 29.99 Canadian. Oh well, that's life. Good to know the airport is finally online.
gylman Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Canadian S@H prices are insane compared to US, especially when you also factor in our 15% taxes. I've pretty much abandoned S@H for new sets in Canada. Twice in the last year, when S@H canada in error listed a bunch of new sets with the US dollar amounts, I went insane and bought like crazy, but they realized their mistake and the problem was corrected to the usual 25-40% jacked up Canadian prices (even though the exchange is only 15-20% extra) Other than that I rarely buy anything except sale items at S@H. Unlike in Europe, it's pretty trivial to get them from the US via eBay for an acceptable shipping cost, and I can even avoid tax in most cases. If I was a Canadian Lego retailer, I'd be pretty PO'ed since I can't compete on a level footing with the US just across the border. Gyl
Graynar Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 If I was a Canadian Lego retailer, I'd be pretty PO'ed since I can't compete on a level footing with the US just across the border. It's very annoying. We live right beside the USA and get some of the worst LEGO prices. I've yet to expierence shop at home internet pricing, but I've ordered by catalouge. Still have to pay by shipping and that doesn't help. I should move to the states where LEGO is cheaper. Then I could buy the airport...

Unlike in Europe, it's pretty trivial to get them from the US via eBay for an acceptable shipping cost, and I can even avoid tax in most cases. I am fortunate to have a sister-in-law who lives in the States. I usually order stuff on S@H and have it shipped to her. Then I have 4 possibilities to get it: 1. I visit and bring my stuff with me (happens once a year) 2. My parents-in-law visit and bring my stuff with them (happens once a year) 3. My "cousin-in-law" visits and brings my stuff with him (happens once a year) 4. My sister-in-law visits us and brings my stuff with her (happens once to twice a year; that's how my girlfriend got some of the new city sets for christmas for me *wub*) Even with shipping and at regular price it's a whole lot cheaper than European S@H. And the next shipment (although very small, just one Maersk Sealand) will arrive at March 31 *sweet* Guess I can call myself lucky :-$ ... until my sister-in-law moves back to Europe... 8-|
MShiels Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 And you need to remember that all EUROPEAN prices, INCLUDE TAXES!!! While over here in USA/CAnada the Shop@Home prices do NOT INCLUDE TAXES. So knock 20-25% for VAT off the European prices before any comparisons and things are closer, not exact, but closer!!! FOR EXAMPLE USD Price $39.99 Euro Price €39.99 UK GBP Price
sam89 Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Well that's not quite right. VAT in the UK is 17.5%, so that makes the cost
