May 18, 201014 yr Although I don't have a child of my own, I can definitely relate to being a slave of that talking Brick. I don't actually see him like you do. I just hear him. Edited May 18, 201014 yr by Spyder
May 18, 201014 yr Cool comic. I don't take my kids shopping with me any more, they're old enough to ask for Lego. That cuts into my budget.
May 18, 201014 yr I've done that a couple times (without the dillusions, mind you). Keep these up, they're great!
May 18, 201014 yr Haha if only I had a child to blame my purchases on . But if you are a serious collector with a budget havent we all had this happen? It happens to me a lot especially when Ive had a few big purchases and im just starting to get the smaller sets.
May 18, 201014 yr Very nice, def! Recognizable situation indeed, although I mostly have my conversation with "The Brick" at home in front of my computer while surfing EB I don't take my kids shopping with me any more, they're old enough to ask for Lego. That cuts into my budget. That line really made me laugh out load Kids, when will they learn that LEGO is for adults only...
May 19, 201014 yr Hilarious comic, def! You really have an artistic skill; I especially love the drawings of the sets. They're easily recognizable! What do you use to make these comics? Looks like Japan got the summer Star Wars sets early
May 19, 201014 yr Author What do you use to make these comics? It's 100% done in Photoshop, using a Wacom drawing tablet. There was no paper used.
May 19, 201014 yr It's 100% done in Photoshop, using a Wacom drawing tablet. There was no paper used. Oh snap, really? I thought this was drawn. Dang, you are skilled.
May 19, 201014 yr Author Oh snap, really? I thought this was drawn.Dang, you are skilled. I would say that I'm deliberate. I really wasn't skilled enough to get employment drawing. But, an interesting point, about nine years ago, I scanned a handwritten alphabet, and made a font of my handwriting, so I'd be able to have text in a straight line. There are times I'd like to change it, but I've long lost the software I used to make it. It would be good to remake that font. I'll fill you in on a secret though; a majority of comic artists hate their work, and can only enjoy it years and years after the fact. When it's new, all you can see are the flaws and fuck ups. Still, you can't quit, since comics are the only satisfying medium. Illustration pays better, takes less time, and gets more respect... But it doesn't tell as much of a story.
May 20, 201014 yr Nice work mate! I personally have never been ashamed to walk the aisle, but it has now been a good few years since anyone asked me for advice on what item to get for their child, so I must look a little out of place ; ) God Bless, Nathan
May 20, 201014 yr Author I personally have never been ashamed to walk the aisle, but it has now been a good few years since anyone asked me for advice on what item to get for their child, so I must look a little out of place ; ) I'm not ashamed either, but I am self-aware that, especially in Japan, there aren't many adults walking that aisle for themselves. The adult men buying toys here usually stick to robots and sexy dolls. I'm sure I dropped down $500 there last year, so I got over that fast enough.
March 21, 201212 yr Ha-ha-ha!!! The same story in my family! The only difference that I go to the toy shop with my son and wife! And we buy lego for the child!
March 21, 201212 yr Your drawing and writing style perfectly captures the melancholic aspects of shame and guilt, this is the most interesting short LEGO comic I think I've ever seen. I think these difficult, strong emotions strike all AFOLs in different ways and with different reactions and the one presented here is quite heartbreaking, as he carries on judgmental 'conversations' with a baby and an imaginary brick; nothing changing months later. Really thought-provoking stuff. Checking out your deviantart now Tim Edited March 21, 201212 yr by caperberry
March 21, 201212 yr Author Normally we don't like bumped old topics, but in this case I'll make an exception Thanks for reading. melancholic Thanks a lot, if there was one mood I think I have in drawing, it's melancholy. It's what I like
March 21, 201212 yr Normally we don't like bumped old topics, but in this case I'll make an exception I'm glad it got bumped, I wouldn't have seen it and started thinking about a new MOC. Maybe I'll start a new topic called "LEGO Shame and Guilt"
March 22, 201212 yr This is great! I think we all have had that 'Brickie' moment. love the artwork, I tried identifying every set drawn in the panels, I did pretty well. I hope to see more of these in the future. Note to self, find a baby to borrow for those TRU trips... Another note to self, look at the date next time before posting, or read the whole thread. I still stand by my last sentence there, that was funny. Edited March 22, 201212 yr by Legocrazy81
March 22, 201212 yr Excellent strip I couldn't produce quality on a deadline. Just when the mood hits me. Yeah. I know what you mean. Edited March 22, 201212 yr by Brickadeer
June 28, 201212 yr this is... FREAKING AWESOME! I sent it to my girlfriend and my mom and they laughed so hard my mom spilled her coffee. this is me in TRU with my kids.
June 29, 201212 yr Author this is... FREAKING AWESOME! I sent it to my girlfriend and my mom and they laughed so hard my mom spilled her coffee. this is me in TRU with my kids. To be fair, it's actually me in TRU with my kid... But I get your point It's not laugh out loud for me now, but I still think it's really funny. I really was tortured about getting a hold of Lego pigs, which I bought, and they've been filed away in a Ziploc bag for over a year now. Thanks for reading and thanks for enjoying
