SilentMode Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Having bought a number of lots from feeBay, and being fortunate enough to pick up a whole collection of Lego from someone, I noticed nearly all of them had Mega Bloks bricks. (I think only one lot out of all of them was pure Lego.) As I want to make dioramas and don't want to cheat, I've separated the Mega Bloks from the Lego - I now have a bag full of the former. Has this happened to anyone else, and what do you do with the other kind of bricks? Quote
Big Cam Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Good question, and the answer is likely yes. I for one don't care for them, so I usually just discard them. Although I've only ahd a few over the years. If you read up on some threads in the community section you'll see that alternate bricks brands may not be the favorite but they still have some followers. Peppermint M is without a doubt the Queen of the clone brands, she has done many wonderful reviews of sets of bricks that are not LEGO. She usually puts the subtitle of her review as Clone review. here are a few. Cobi Roman Chariot Toyriffic Castle Sluban SRS Rescue Quote
AFOL SF Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 During my early years of collecting bulk Lego and not paying attention to non-Lego bricks, it didn't really bothered me that much. But as I got educated afterwards, I went back and started separating the non-Lego bricks and donated most of it to the Salvation Army. Since that day, every time I encounter a non-Lego brick on a new acquisition, it goes directly to the trash. Quote
SilentMode Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Some very interesting reviews there. Most of the bricks I've separated are your regular ones with the different markings, but there are a few pieces I would like to see as official Lego parts: some double-sided plates would be very useful, and there's a 1x2 "see-saw" element Quote
Peppermint_M Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Hello. Please enjoy my index. It is Purple and in my signature line, for convinience . As for what to do with unwanted bricks from other brands that arrive in bulk lots: Sort them and save them until you have what you'd term a good amount, then donate them to a charity or charitable concern. You get rid of unwanted bricks, they do not go to landfill and you get the warm fuzzies at thoughts of giving someone less fortunate than yourself something awesome to play with (even if it isn't quite the famous and well known brand). More reviews coming soon! Quote
t20a1h5u23 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I bought 4 bags of lego parts at a garage sale, and about 1/3 of them were Mega Bloks, Tyco, other plastic toys, (not even bricks) and a chewed up piece of straw. Some of the pieces don't fit with legos, some do. At my locol Toy's are us, there is a brand that has "mini-people" and "works with all other brands." Quote
dr_spock Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I keep mine separated. I think eventually some day I'll have enough to do a MB MOC. Quote
larry marak Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Separate them into lego-compatible and non compatible. The non compatibles you'll probably have to throw away. The compatibles you can give to a neighborchild, a school, a church or a disabled vets store in a bag. Save unusual parts and colors as they will invariably provide the only solution to a building problem you're struggling with down the road. Quote
